Alejandro Lococo Stays True to Form and Bags Big Stack on Day 1b of the Eureka High Roller

Niveau 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Alejandro Lococo

Day 1b of Event #17: $2,200 High Roller at the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus attracted 433 runners, which along with Day 1a’s 1,011 brought the total field up to 1,444 players that made their way to the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa. This generated a massive prize pool of $2,772,480.

After 20 levels of play, 64 players remained in the second flight of the day. PokerStars ambassador Alejandro Lococo (665,000) is no stranger to bagging a big stack and today was no different. He may have started off quietly but when the bubble began to approach, he could be seen pushing the action and going for all of his opponent's chips on a regular basis. He will enter Day 2 as the chip leader of this flight and be in the mix for the overall spot.

There were however multiple players to bag big stacks. Pascal Hartmann (610,000) of Germany, Sarkis Wael (484,000) of Lebanon, Henok Tekle (466,000) of the Netherlands and Ran Shahar (444,000) of Isreal will all be on Lococo's radar as Day 2 begins.

Some other notable names to bag chips and move on to Day 2 were PSPC Champion Aliaksandr Shylko (96,000) of Belarus, 2018 EPT Barcelona Main Event Champion Piotr Nurzynski (99,000) of Poland, and 2013 EPT Barcelona Main Event Champion Tom Middleton.

Unfortunately, not everyone was so fortunate. Among those to bust on Day 1b were PokerStars Ambassadors Ben “Spraggy” Spragg and Parker “Tonkaaaa” Talbot. Plus, WSOP Bracelet winner Pete Chen to name just a few.

Day 2 will kick off Monday October 16th at 12:00 p.m. EET and will see a total of 216 players returning when the flights are combined. Play will begin with 5:12 left on the clock in level 17, 3,000/6,000/6,000 blinds, where Flight 1a left off. The seat draw and prize breakdown will be announced before play begins in the morning.

Although Lococo holds the chip lead there are multiple players from both flights on his heals and as always, it is anyone’s tournament to win.

Tamasauskas Wants More Chips in the Middle

Niveau 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Vladas Tamasauskas

After a few folds the action made it to Levente Szabo in middle position who raised to 6,000. It folded to Vladas Tamasauskas who is coming off of a huge series at the PokerGo Cup in Las Vegas and he opted to defend his big blind.

The 969 flop landed and Tamasauskas snap-checked it over to Szabo. He thought for a moment and then continued for 4,500. Tamasauskas went deep into thought for about two minutes before putting in a check-raise to the tune of 10,500 with only about 25,000 back.

Szabo seemed to be in a tricky spot and mulled over a call for close to two minutes. After some time he thought better of it and mucked his hand. Tamasauskas scored the pot with little resistance and got some much needed chips in the process.

More Action Ahead on Day 1b of the $2,200 Eureka High Roller at 7 PM

EPT Cyprus
EPT Cyprus

The PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus action continues tonight with the second flight of the $2,200 Eureka High Roller, starting at 7 p.m. EEST. With the continued success of the Eureka Main Event it is expected to attract a stacked field of some of the biggest names in poker, who have made their way to the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa.

The buy-in for the tournament is $2,200, with each player starting with a stack of 30,000 chips. The blinds begin at 100/200/200. This flight will play as a turbo (20-minute levels) in hopes of providing a second opportunity to the players who were not able to find a bag in the morning flight of this event. Unlimited reentries are allowed until late registration closes after Level 10. Please note that there is no dinner break scheduled for this flight but there will be a 20-minute break at the completion of every five levels.

The plan for Day 1a and 1b is to continue playing until only 15 percent of the players are left. At that point, the action will conclude, and those who have successfully "bagged and tagged" will return on Monday for Day 2 when the remaining players will play down to a winner, who will be crowned Eureka High Roller Champion.
