First High Roller Title Up for Grabs in the 2023 PokerStars EPT Paris €10,200 Mystery Bounty Event

Kayhan Mokri is second in chips for Day 2
Kayhan Mokri is second in chips for Day 2

On the second day of the inaugural PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival, the first winner of a high-stakes contest will be crowned at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile. An already big field of 71 entries has emerged thus far in Event #3 $10,200 Mystery Bounty, which is expected to grow further as of 12.30 pm local time.

The first High Roller tournament of the stop operated by Club Barriere Paris in the heart of the French capital has generated a cash prize pool of €326,600 so far but the registration on Day 2 remains open for the first two 30-minute levels until approximately 1.30 pm local time. All those who have not entered yet or only bowed out once can re-join the action as the event features a single re-entry option.

Leading the way so far is Nikita Kuznetsov with 376,500, followed by Kayhan Mokri (346,500) and fellow countryman Viktor Ustimov (334,000).

Mokri surpassed $1 million in live tournament cashes according to his Hendon Mob profile during the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure on The Bahamas, during which he came runner-up in a $10,200 Mystery Bounty Event and furthermore pulled two golden $100,000 bounty envelopes.

Among the local contenders, 2022 Master Classics of Poker Main Event winner Julien Sitbon fared the best and sits in fourth place with 330,500. Further big names with above-average stacks include Alexandros Theologis, Stefan Schillhabel, Tom Vogelsang, Chris Brewer, and Davidi Kitai, among others.

Many eyes especially from the rail will also focus on football striker Neymar Jr., who joined the high-stakes competition alongside a slate of poker pros and friends from his home country of Brazil. The PokerStars Cultural ambassador will return with 103,500 in chips in the middle of the pack, surrounded by some of the biggest names of the international poker circuit.

Returning blinds for level nine will be 1,500-3,000 with a big blind ante of 3,000. Those jumping into the tournament at the very last minute with a fresh stack of 100,000 will have 20 big blinds at their disposal for level 11, which features blinds of 2,000-5,000 and a 5,000 big blind ante.

The tournament features 30-minute levels until a deal has been made or three players remain in contention. Once the registration closes, the 20-second preflop shot clock increases to 30 seconds each and all players receive one additional time bank extension for each even level they are seated.

Approximately 15% of the field will earn a cash prize. Furthermore, at the start of Level 13 after the first break of the day, the Mystery Bounty prizes will come into effect. From each entry, €5,000 is allocated for the bounty prize and players can redeem their earned bounty tokens for envelopes at their leisure going forward.

Stay tuned for the conclusion of this High Roller contest right here on PokerNews, as the live reporting team will be on the floor from start to finish.

Stefan Schillhabel raised to 6,500 in early position and was called by the cutoff. Teun Mulder was in the big blind and ripped all in for his last 34,000 chips. Schillhabel deliberated for a moment before re-shoving all in which quickly got the cutoff to fold.

Teun Mulder: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Stefan Schillhabel: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Mulder was unable to find any help on the {5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} board which sent him to the rail. Some new faces also joined the field including Daniel Dvoress and Sam Greenwood, along with Erik Seidel who is on his second entry.

Moraes Among Early Casualties on Day 2

Rafael Da Silva Moraes

PokerStars ambassador Rafael Moraes was also among those to enter in the first hour of play but barely lasted half an hour. He got it in preflop with the {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} against Julien Sitbon, who held the dominating {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

The kicker played on the {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs} runout and that spelled the end for Moraes.

However, Sitbon then lost a bigger pot to Kayhan Mokri who further increased his decent stack towards the end of the late registration period.

David Kaye "Blown Away" by Impact of PokerStars US Player Pool Merging

David Kaye
David Kaye

American David Kaye spoke with PokerNews about his journey from a small-town Michigan poker player to becoming a poker player and PokerStars ambassador.

He also gave insight into the current poker scene in Michigan, and the potential of online poker in the state.
“We know the end goal isn't just two states,” he said. “Two states is great, but this is just the groundwork to get where we really want to be when we have all the states under one umbrella — or as many states as possible.”

Neymar and Kitai Sent to the Rail

Fellow Brazilian Felipe Ketzer was somewhat embarrassed as he apparently had slowrolled football star Neymar with pocket aces to dispatch the striker, who could not improve with pocket fives.

At the same time one table over, Davidi Kitai was spotted on his way to the rail as well. He held a pocket pair in the final encounter with the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, but it was no good to beat Shimizu Nozomu and his {k-Spades}{6-Clubs} on a board of {k-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

Quadruple Knockout for Ferreira Pais

Niveau 14 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Mauricio Ferreira Pais
Mauricio Ferreira Pais

Table five brought a spectacular five-way all-in during which the severe short stacks of Stefan Schillhabel and Raphael Da Costa were in the middle. Furthermore, Jakob Miegel and Alexandre Reard were also all-in and they were all covered by Mauricio Ferreira Pais.

"Oh man, I also wanted his bounty," another player joked as the following cards were flipped over.

Raphael Da Costa: {7-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Stefan Schillhabel: {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Alexandre Reard: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Jakob Miegel: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Mauricio Ferreira Pais: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop gave Ferreira Pais a gutshot which he hit with the {10-Spades} turn to make the nuts for the time being. Reard and Miegel had outs to broadway but missed on the {8-Diamonds} river as a quadruple knockout was confirmed.

Lin Returns the Favor to Beresford

Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

Ren Lin and Conor Beresford were back at it again as they got all of their chips in the middle preflop for the second time today. This time, the cards were reversed with Beresford holding the {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} while Lin tabled {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

"This time, I have the nines," pointed out Lin after Beresford flopped a set on him in the previous battle.

The dealer fanned the flop of {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Lin spiked a set as well. The {k-Diamonds} on the turn and the {k-Spades} on the river were no help to Beresford who slung his bounty ticket across the table.

"Ughhh. Now what?" Beresford asked himself.

Wakil Triples, Danchev Denied a Bounty

Niveau 14 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Jamil Wakil
Jamil Wakil

Jamil Wakil opened to 20,000 in early position and Sirzat Hissou pushed all in for 245,000 on his left. Dimitar Danchev asked for a count from the cutoff before re-shoving all in. The action folded back to Wakil who also called off his stack of 157,000 chips.

Jamil Wakil: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Sirzat Hissou: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Dimitar Danchev: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The flop of {j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds} looked promising for Wakil to triple up while Danchev was focused on the side pot in order to collect a bounty. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn left Wakil in the driver's seat and the {k-Diamonds} on the river secured him the main pot. However, Hissou spiked a king on the river to win the side pot from Danchev, denying him his bounty chip.

Mateos and Mokri are Both Winners!

Niveau 15 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos got the last of his 70,000 chips in the middle and was looked up by one of the big stacks at the table in Kayhan Mokri.

Adrian Mateos: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}
Kayhan Mokri: {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Mateos was in a dominating position and it stayed that way on the {a-}{7-}{6-} flop. A {10-} on the turn gave both players straight draws and a {9-} on the river completed Mokri's straight to eliminate Mateos.

Mateos, who earned a bounty earlier on, headed to the treasure chest with Mokri to pull their bounty tickets. Mokri let Mateos draw his envelope first and it happened to be the biggest prize of €75,000. Mokri drew his next and was forced to settle for a €25,000 payday.
