Lin Straddles, Can't Bluff Shimizu

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Ren Lin pulled out a cash game move by straddling to 1,000 from under the gun before the cards were dealt and Carlos Zanoni called from the hijack before Nozomu Shimizu three-bet to 6,600 from the button.

Shimizu yelled something in Japanese and Lin and table mate Sung Hyun both burst out laughing before Lin and Zanoni both called.

All three players checked on the {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop and the same action took place on the {k-Diamonds} turn. Lin and Zanoni both checked on the {10-Hearts} river and Shimizu bet a tiny 1,000 before Lin check-raised to 15,000. Zanoni folded and Shimizu called.

Lin let out a laugh to show he was beat before turning over {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for ace-high, while Shimizu showed {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to win the pot with a pair of kings.

"YAY!" he celebrated.

"You straddle this time!" Lin ordered.

"I'm tired," replied Shimizu.

Adams Eliminates Kim; Chips Up To Twice Starting Stack

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Namhyung Kim raised to 1,000 and Timothy Adams shoved to put the rest of Kim's stack at risk. Kim called and the cards were flipped.

Namhyung Kim: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Timothy Adams: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Kim was ahead for most of the runout, but Adams caught a pair of jacks on the river to bust Kim out of the tournament.

Adams ended up losing a small pot to Jules Dickerson in a blind versus blind clash the next hand, but has still chipped up to more than twice the starting stack since the start of the day.

Guilbert Loses Early On

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Johan Guilbert
Johan Guilbert

Johan Guilbert and Timothy Adams were playing for a pot of 17,500 on a completed board of {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Adams checked the action to Guilbert, who put in half of his stack. The bet was 17,100, but Adams quickly made it double that by putting Guilbert all-in. Guilbert was apparently caught in a steal attempt, seeing as he instantly threw away his cards.

Not a good start for ''YoH ViraL'', but he still has plenty of room to maneuver his stack.

Big Blind on Blind Battle Goes Way of Vieira

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Joao Vieira
Joao Vieira

Joao Vieira has joined the fray and immediately got caught up in a big pot during a blind versus blind situation against Justin Saliba. There was already a whopping 14,800 in the middle on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} when Vieira put out a bet of 13,000. Saliba thought for a while, then called.

On the {3-Hearts} turn Vieira used a time bank extension before ultimately deciding to check. His opponent did the exact same actions, and the two saw the river {7-Clubs}. Now Vieira chose to aggress again, and bet 14,000. After a little while, Saliba let his hand go, and Vieira shipped a sizable pot.

After the hand, the two players and the dealer had a discussion on exactly how many time bank extensions were used by each player during the hand. Some decisions took longer than the shot clock allowed, but not every time an extension was given to the dealer, leading to some confusion. In the end, they figured it out and the table went on to the next hand.

Welcome to Day 1 of the €10,300 EPT Paris High Roller

Trophy
Trophy

It's time for the €10,300 High Roller held as part of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris. Day 1 of the event is set to kick off today at 12:30 p.m. local time at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile.

The event will run for three days and players will have just a single reentry to stamp their mark on the tournament. Registration is open until the end of Day 1.

Players will start with 50,000 chips and blinds start at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. This means starting stacks at the first blind level will be 250 big blinds deep. Day 1 will play for ten 60-minute levels with a 20 minute break every two levels and 75 minute break at the end of level six.

Kannapong Thanarattrakul won the last €10,300 EPT High Roller event, which was held as part of EPT Prague. He outlasted a field of 274 entries to take home a prize of €543,750.

As is expected in an event of this calibre, plenty of familiar faces are already registered for the event, including Masato Yokosawa, Byron Kaverman, who recently came fourth in the PCA Super High Roller for over $1 million, and Dominik Nitsche, who's list of poker accomplishments is extensive.

Also registered for the event are a few players who are returning off the back of recent EPT results. Dragos Trofimov came third in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event in 2022 and will be looking for another final table score. Julien Sitbon bagged a first place finish in a freezeout event in Monte Carlo the same year. And Antoine Labat finished just shy of the final table of the €10,300 EPT Barcelona High Roller last year.

Of course, many more players will register before the event and over the course of Day 1.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates direct from the tournament floor.
