Brewer Binks One-Outer to Eliminate Marques

Niveau 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Andre Marques
Andre Marques

Chris Brewer raised to 8,000 and was called by Ben Heath in the small blind. Andre Marques then pushed all-in for 119,500 in the big blind and Brewer called with the superior stack, while Heath quickly got out of the way.

Andre Marques: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Chris Brewer: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop shifted the momentum very suddenly as Brewer only had a single out or running cards to a potential chop. Nothing changed on the {5-Spades} turn but the {q-Spades} river provided the case queen to knock out Marques in spectacular fashion.

Three Double Ups in a Row

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

Ren Lin raised from under the gun and then called the shove by Simon Mattsson for the last 22,000 in the small blind.

Simon Mattsson: {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Ren Lin: {k-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{7-Spades} board locked up the double for Mattsson on the turn.

Shortly after one table over, the turn showed {a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and Chris Brewer bet 27,000 out of the big blind. Sam Greenwood called from under the gun and then also reluctantly called on the {j-Diamonds} river when Brewer bet 51,000 with a single T-500 chip behind.

Brewer tabled {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for two pair and that secured the pot.

Greenwood dropped to one third of a starting stack but doubled right away in the next hand when his {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} held up versus Tauan Naves. The Brazilian raised the button and called the short stack shove with {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}. There was no surprise on the {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} runout and Greenwood remained in the mix.

O'Dwyer Eliminated After Setup Hand

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

In what seemed to be the very first hand after re-entering, Steve O'Dwyer raised and called a three-bet to 22,000 by Niklas Astedt which led them to a {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. Both players checked and O'Dwyer bet the {8-Diamonds} turn for 21,000, picking up a call by Astedt.

The {10-Clubs} river completed the board and O'Dwyer now checked to Astedt, who bet 100,000. This covered the 62,000 O'Dwyer had behind, who then invested three time bank extensions before calling all-in.

Astedt revealed {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} for aces up and O'Dwyer showed his {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} before heading out of the tournament area.

Back-to-Back Doubles Bring Grafton Back to Life

Niveau 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Felipe Ketzer opened to 5,500 in early position and Sam Grafton ripped all in for 24,500 on his left. The action folded back to Ketzer who quickly called.

Sam Grafton: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Felipe Ketzer: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Grafton's pair of tens held on for a clean double-up.

"Now you can start talking again," Kayhan Mokri encouraged.

"I'm not here to perform for you," Grafton quipped back.

On the next hand, Ketzer raised to 5,500 again and Grafton moved all in for 55,000 this time. Tom Orpaz re-raised to 100,000 from the small blind which got Ketzer to fold his {a-Spades}{q-Spades}.

Grafton flipped over {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and was once again in a great spot against the {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} of Orpaz. The flop came {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} which made Ketzer squirm in his chair. The {4-Diamonds} and {9-Clubs} runout secured Grafton another double to climb above starting stack.

Greenwood Gets Short; Doubles Through Heath

Niveau 7 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

On a heads-up turn of {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, Chris Brewer bet 12,000 out of the big blind. Sam Greenwood called from under the gun with a short stack behind. Brewer then bet the {5-Hearts} river for 100,000 and Greenwood reluctantly folded.

Shortly after, Brewer opened to 5,000 on the button and Greenwood called out of the small blind. Ben Heath moved all-in for 51,000 out of the big blind and Brewer folded. Greenwood mulled it over for more than a minute and called it off.

Sam Greenwood: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Ben Heath: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{j-Hearts} board improved Greenwood to two pair and he traded the role of shortest stack with Heath.

Orpaz Flips Brewer to the Rail

Niveau 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

Timothy Adams opened to 4,500 and Chris Brewer three-bet to 13,500 on his left. Tom Orpaz flicked in a four-bet to 50,000 from the small blind and Adams quickly folded. Brewer shoved all in for around 75,000 and Orpaz snap-called.

Chris Brewer: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Tom Orpaz: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

It was a coin flip and the flop of {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} put Orpaz in the lead with a pair of kings. The {6-Diamonds} on the turn and the {q-Spades} on the river were no help to Brewer who headed to the registration desk.

Jean-Noel Thorel opened to 2,500 in the cutoff and was called by Tom Orpaz on the button. Alex Kulev shoved all in for just under 30,000 in the small blind and Thorel quickly called. Orpaz folded and the two hands were tabled.

Alex Kulev: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Kulev faced an uphill battle and it got even steeper after the {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. The {6-Diamonds} on the turn spelled the end for Kulev as the {5-Spades} completed the board.

Expensive Bluff for Chidwick

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

A completed board of {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} was spread across the felt with just over 40,000 in the middle. Stephen Chidwick and Seth Davies were heads-up in the pot and Chidwick fired out a massive over-bet of 80,000 from the small blind, leaving just 500 chips behind.

Davies announced all in for 81,000 and Chidwick instantly mucked his cards, leaving himself with the smallest single-denomination chip in the tournament. Just two hands later, Chidwick was seen leaving the tournament area as the first casualty on the day.

The First €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller is Set to Kick Off

Arc de Triomphe - EPT Paris
Arc de Triomphe - EPT Paris

With the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris now in full swing, it is time for the first of the €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em single-day high rollers to get underway. Many of the world's best poker players have made their way to the French Capital and have gathered inside the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile to compete for millions of dollars over the next 10 days.

These single-day high rollers have become a staple event on the EPT for those players wishing to compete at a higher buy-in level and battle for six or seven-figure paydays. There will be a total of three events at this buy-in level over the course of the festival along with the €50,000 EPT Super High Roller that will begin in just a couple of days.

Some of the most notable players that have already been seen at the 2023 EPT Paris include the Canadian contingent of Timothy Adams, Sam Greenwood, Daniel Dvoress, and Mike Watson. They will also be joined by the likes of PokerStars ambassador Sam Grafton, Ben Heath, Orpen Kisacikoglu, and Americans Chris Brewer and Seth Davies just to name a few.

The action is slated to get underway at 12:30 p.m. local time with all players in their seats at the start of play receiving half of the registration fee returned. A starting stack will be worth 100,000 chips with the blinds starting at 500/1,000 and a 1,000 big blind ante. The levels will be 30 minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every three or four levels.

Late registration for this event will remain open until the start of Level 11 which is after the dinner break at approximately 7:00 p.m. There is often an unlimited number of entries for these events but due to French regulations, only a single re-entry will be permitted. A shot clock will be enforced in this tournament with 20 seconds being granted preflop while registration is still open. All further streets will be given 30 seconds to complete any action.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the event en route to crowning a winner later this evening.
