Juan Pardo opened to 25,000 from early position and action folded to Stephen Chidwick on the button. He reached for chips and produced a three-bet to 80,000.
Action folded back to Pardo, who confirmed the amount of the raise before reaching for chips and putting in a four-bet of 190,000, leading to a swift fold from Chidwick.
The action was caught as Masashi Oya, on the button, was all in and at risk for his effective stack of 117,000, against Shyngis Satubayev, who was under the gun.
Masashi Oya: 10♥9♥
Shyngis Satubayev: J♠J♥
The window flashed the 8♥ which prompted Christoph Vogelsang to say "Good start", however, the K♣3♣ that followed dampened his enthusiasm. The Q♦ turn and 3♦ river saw Oya exit to the rail.
Dan Smith raised to 26,000 from under the gun, Stephen Chidwick three-bet to 91,000 from the small blind and Smith made the call.
The J♠4♦A♦ flop saw Chidwick continue for 52,000. Smith called.
The 3♣ turn saw a repeat of the action, this time Chidwick sized up to 125,000.
The 3♦ landed on the river and Chidwick placed a bet of 325,000, which covered Smith by roughly 100,000 chips. With his tournament life on the line, Smith erupted from his chair, contemplating his options on his feet.
Smith used all but two of his remaining time bank chips before announcing "I call."
Mikita Badziakouski opened to 25,000 from early position and was called by Day 2 chip leader Jacob Amsellem and David Yan in the blinds.
On the J♣8♣4♦ flop, action was checked to Badziakouski, who put out a bet of 25,000. Amsellem called.
Yan than reached for chips and produced a check-raise to 85,000. Badziakouski called.
Amsellem pondered the spot for a moment, then announced he was all-in, covering both of his opponents.
Yan took a time bank and called to put himself at risk. Badziakouski looked slightly perplexed by the action that had developed, and somewhat reluctantly put his hand in the muck.
David Yan: 8♥8♠
Jacob Amsellem: K♣9♣
Yan was ahead with his middle set of eights, but had plenty of outs to dodge against Amsellem's flush draw.
The 2♦ turn was a brick, but the 2♣ rolled off on the river to give Amsellem the flush, but also improved Yan to a full house.
Yan scooped a monster pot while Amsellem endured serious damage to his stack.
