Rivest Off to a Quick Start

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Kevin Rivest had built up a stack to over 2.0 million since the start of the day and the cards keep coming. He raised to 50,000 from under the gun and was called by the cutoff and the big blind.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Philip Hepburn led out for 150,000 from the big blind. Rivest raised to 300,000 and the cutoff folded. Hepburn pushed all in for his remaining 520,000 and Rivest snapped him off. Hepburn tabled {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} but Rivest was way ahead with {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}.

The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} giving Hepburn a flush draw but the {a-Clubs} on the river only improved Rivest's hand to a set of aces. Hepburn was eliminated and Rivest continued to stack chips.

Ioannis Shows One

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

After raising pre-flop under the gun, Ioannis Angelou-Konstas put out an 80,000 continuation bet on a {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop. Diego Ventura, after calling pre from the big blind, check-called flop, as the two players went to the {k-Clubs} turn.

Ventura checked again, with Angelou-Konstas continuing to apply the pressure with a second barrel worth 270,000. After a moment, Ventura made the call, before the {8-Diamonds} came down on the river. Ventura checked a third time, and was faced with an all-in for his entire 1,010,000-chip stack.

After having spent two minutes in the tank, the clock was eventually called on Ventura, who let the clock run down, rendering his hand dead. Angelou-Konstas offered to show one card, giving Ventura a choice of which. The {a-Diamonds} was exposed. "We all knew you had that card!" came the cry from the table.

Zinno Joins His Fellow Americans at the Registration Desk

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Although late registration is open until the end of the fourth level, a lot of players have not been shy to stick their chips in the middle to try and run up a stack.

With already 650,000 in the middle and the board reading {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Anthony Zinno checked from middle position to his opponent in the cutoff that bet 350,000. Zinno check-raised all in for 1.32 million and his opponent went into the tank. Over two minutes he finally made the call and tabled {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Zinno had plenty of outs with {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} but the {8-Clubs} on the river was not one of them.

Zinno was headed off to the registration desk to re-enter and was joined by his fellow Americans, Ryan Riess and Alex Foxen.

Green Lays Down

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

We join the action on a {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, with around 180,000 in the middle, in a hand between Terry Green, Kristian Wiermyhr and Ari Engel.

Green and Wiermyhr both checked the action over to Engel on the button, who put out a bet of 110,000. Green made the call from the small blind, with Wiermyhr check-raising to 250,000. Engel quickly folded, with Green hitting the call button once more.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds}, with Wiermyhr very quickly shoving for well over a million when checked to.

"Not worried that I might have the flush, no?" queried Green. "I'm probably laying down the best hand," he continued, as he tabled {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and mucked his hand.

Adrian Mateos Ousted in the First Level

Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

There was a raise to 55,000 from early position and Adrian Mateos three-bet to 150,000 from middle position. Michael Khan was sitting directly to his left and four-bet to 305,000. The action was folded back around to Mateos who looked back at his cards and then announced all in for around 475,000. Khan quickly called and the cards were tabled.

Michael Khan: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Mateos was in a dominated position but the flop fell {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} giving him the lead with a pair of queens. The turn was the {4-Hearts} and Mateos was in a good position to double up. The dealer burned and turned the {k-Clubs} on the river and Khan nailed one of his three outs to send Mateos to the rail.

Michalak Proves Difficult for Foxen

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Alex Foxen raised to 45,000 from the hijack and Jakub Michalak defended his big blind. The flop fell {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Michalak checked to Foxen who bet 50,000. Michalak call and the {3-Spades} paired the board on the turn.

Michalak checked again and Foxen fired another 145,000. Michalak stuck around to see the {6-Diamonds} on the river and then checked for the third time. Foxen checked behind this time and Michalak tabled {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for two pair. Foxen tossed his cards to the muck and slipped below 20 big blinds.

Nick Todd's Off

Niveau 9 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

We join the action in a hand between Nick Todd and Daniel Ades, looking at a {3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} board with roughly 850,000 in the middle.

Ades checked the action over to Todd, who announced "all-in," pushing his 710,000 chips over the line. Todd was met with a quick, "call," from Ades across the table, and the cards were on their backs.

It was Todd's {5-Spades}{2-Spades} that needed help, although he had plenty of cards that would provide him with the best hand versus Ades' {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. Unfortunately for Todd, the {q-Diamonds} river was a blank, and he left the tournament area as Ades dragged in a nice pot.

Samuel Phillips raised to 50,000 from under the gun and Zoltan Ban pushed all in for his last 120,000 directly to his left. The action folded back to Phillips and he made the call.

Zoltan Ban: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The flop came eight-high and Ban was still out front but the {a-Clubs} on the turn gave Phillips the lead with a pair of aces. The river was no help to Ban and he was eliminated.
