Shakerchi Makes Second Big 2019 PCA Final Table But Hunichen Leads

Niveau 16 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Talal Shakerchi
Talal Shakerchi

Two marquee multi-day events at the 2019 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure have reached final tables, and each one has featured Talal Shakerchi.

Just a day after got through a field of 1,039 to the final eight of the $25,000 PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold'em Championship, Shakerchi advanced to the last day of the $100,000 Super High Roller. That last one ended on a heartwrenching beat — he lost aces to ace-queen suited all in preflop — so Shakerchi will be hoping things go better for him this time around.

Unfortunately for the British high roller, he does bring the shortest stack (1,670,000) of the final five into Day 3. However, he does still have a very playable stack of around 40 big blinds, so he's by no means out of it.

American Chris Hunichen, cashing in his second straight $100K after getting third at a Bellagio event last month, has the chip lead with 4,555,000. He's followed by Henrik Hecklen (3,465,000), Jesus Cortes (2,885,000) and Sam Greenwood (2,675,000).

3Talal ShakerchiUK1,670,000
4Henrik HecklenDenmark3,465,000

Those five players are all who remain in a field of 61, bolstered by five Day 2 entries. They're playing for $1,775,460 up top, with everyone having secured $485,300.

Hunichen busted the likes of Steve O'Dwyer and Alex Foxen on the way to the final table to secure his chip lead, though he wasn't far clear of Hecklen. Whereas Hecklen basically treaded water at the final table, though, Hunichen got a stroke of good fortune to close Day 2 when he two-outed PokerStars Team Pro Igor Kurganov with eights against tens to lock up the Day 3 lead.

In addition to Kurganov, Steffen Sontheimer (seventh) and Stephen Chidwick (eighth) also cashed. They were the beneficiaries of Gregory Jensen busting on the bubble, losing a flip with ace-queen to the nines of Cortes.

The $100,000 Super High Roller resumes at 1 p.m. local time here in The Bahamas with a live stream to shortly follow on PokerStars.tv. They'll kick things off at 20,000/40,000/40,000 and play down to a winner, and you can watch the action on the stream and follow corresponding live updates here on PokerNews.

Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Chris Hunichen raised to 65,000 with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} second to act and Jesus Cortes called out of the cutoff with {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Big blind Igor Kurganov picked up {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} and made it 305,000. Hunichen crammed all in covering everyone and Kurganov called for 1,210,000.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Hunichen asked for the eight of hearts. Instead, it was worse for Kurganov as the {8-Diamonds} fell. Then, the {8-Hearts} Hunichen had originally asked for arrived anyway.

The {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop checked through to the {8-Spades}. They two players checked again and the {10-Spades} river sealed Sontheimer's elimination, with Shakerchi taking the showdown after his bet chased Hunichen.

Stephen Chidwick Eliminated in 8th Place ($236,720)

Stephen Chidwick

Stephen Chidwick raised to 65,000 from under the gun with {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Sam Greenwood defended from the big blind with {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. The flop came {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Greenwood checked to Chidwick who continued for 60,000. Greenwood called with some backdoor draws and the {2-Hearts} landed on the turn.

Greenwood checked again and Chidwick barrelled another 300,000, more than the pot. Greenwood just called after turning a flush draw and the {q-Hearts} on the river gave Greenwood the nut flush. He checked for the third time and Chidwick moved all but one of his chips into the middle, a bet of 590,000. Greenwood moved all in with the nuts and Chidwick mucked with just 5,000 chips behind.

In the very next hand, Chidwick was all in from the big blind with {8-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Greenwood had {q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} in the small blind. The board ran out {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Chidwick hit the rail in eighth place.

Chris Hunichen raised to 65,000 in the hijack with {a-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Jesus Cortes called in the cutoff with {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Gregory Jensen jammed in the small blind with {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} for 425,000. Hunichen mucked but Cortes called.

The {4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop brought nothing for Jensen. Likewise the {5-Hearts} and the {8-Hearts}, and Jensen hit the rail as the last player busted without a payout.
