Bicknell Doubles Through Schwartz

Niveau 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Jake Schwartz raised to 265,000 and called right away when big blind Kristen Bicknell stuffed for just over 2 million.

Jake Schwartz: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Kristen Bicknell: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{a-Spades} flop was a grim one for Schwartz. The {7-Hearts} turn and {2-Diamonds} river failed to pull him back in front. He sent over more than half of his stack.

Jattin Shuts Down

Niveau 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Farid Jattin opened to 280,000 in the cutoff with {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Griffin Benger defended from the big blind with {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. The flop of {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts} missed both players and Benger started with a check. Jattin continued for 125,000 with just nine-high but Benger called with a straight draw.

The {4-Diamonds} landed on the turn and Benger checked again. Jattin slowed down with a check as well and the {a-Hearts} paired the board on the river. Benger checked for the third time and Jattin conceded the pot with a check as well.

Duta Doubles Through Liperis

Niveau 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Over on the outer table, Chris Johnson raised to 240,000 and was called by Florian Duta in the small blind and Yiannis Liperis in the big blind. Duta only had 710,000 behind and got those in after a {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop. Liperis used 15 seconds of his time bank before asking Johnson for the stack size, then called, Johnson folded.

Florian Duta: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Yiannis Liperis: {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Liperis improved to two pair on the {K-Spades} turn, but the very same card gave Duta the king-high straight. A blank {6-Clubs} followed on the river and Duta doubled.

Shakerchi Rivers a Double Up

Niveau 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Talal Shakerchi ripped all in for his last 1,800,000 in early position with {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. Griffin Benger asked for a count after looking down at {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} in the hijack and made the call to put Shakerchi at risk.

The flop fell {k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts} to give Shakerchi some hope with a flush draw. The {6-Spades} on the turn changed nothing as Benger was still in the lead. However, the {9-Spades} gave Shakerchi a pair and a full double up.

Rivera Collects Two Martini Barrels

Niveau 30 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante

Marc Rivera defended big blind from a min-raise by Julien Martini in middle position and {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flopped. Martini bet 420,000 and 875,000 more on the {7-Diamonds} turn, with Rivera calling both bets. The {j-Spades} river checked through and Martini couldn't beat {k-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Padhila's Rail Explodes

Niveau 30 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante

One of the last Platinum Pass winners Pedro Padhila moved all in for 2,430,000 from the hijack with {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Griffin Benger made a quick call in the big blind with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} to leave Padhila in the lead with the only pair. The {k-Spades} on the turn gave Benger plenty of counterfeit outs heading to the river. The dealer burned and turned the {6-Spades} and Padhila's rail exploded as he doubled up.

Jason Koonce - Not Jason Koon - Running Deep in the $25K PSPC

Niveau 30 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Jason Koonce
Jason Koonce

When Jason Koonce checked into the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas at the start of the PCA, they gave him high-roller regular Jason Koon’s room. It’s pretty obvious how the mistake could be made, especially considering they were both expected to check in within a day of each other.

Koonce is no Koon, but he’s by no means out of his league playing in the $25,000 buy-in PokerStars Players Championship. A frequent cash game player 8-10 years ago, Koonce still hops in the occasional $25/$50 or $50/$100 game in his home area in Michigan or when traveling to L.A. or Vegas for work.

“I used to play a lot but work and family start to take priority.”

These days, Koonce stays busy running his sports memorabilia and talent company One Team International Agency (OTIA) and spending time with his wife and three young children. Read the interview with Koonce on the PokerNews Homepage.
