Who Will Capture the $100,000 PCA Super High Roller Title and Over $1.5 Million?

PCA Super High Roller trophy
PCA Super High Roller trophy

There are just six players returning to the table for the third and final day of the $100,000 PCA Super High Roller at the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in The Bahamas. The majority of the $4.5 million prizepool is still up for grabs with the winner walking home with a cool $1,545,080 and the coveted PokerStars trophy.

A total of 49 entries were recorded in this event and Mike Watson has been the clear chip leader over the course of the first two days. The Canadian poker pro from Newfoundland finished Day 1 with 830,000 chips and will be returning for Day 3 with 3,015,000 chips and the odds-on favorite. Watson already has over $16.6 million in earnings on his poker resume but another seven-figure score at one of the world's top poker spots would push him even further up the ranks.

He is followed closely by two Spaniards Juan Pardo (2,200,000) and Adrian Mateos (2,035,000) who have plenty to show for on their poker resumes as well. Not far in the distance are a couple of American high rollers, Seth Davies (1,870,000) and Isaac Haxton (1,645,000), who are also very well known on the poker circuit. Rounding out the remaining players is another Canadian, Daniel Dvoress (590,000), who will be looking to spin up his short stack.

The levels will continue to be 60 minutes in length until just three players remain where the levels will be cut in half. Each player has locked up over $320,000 thus far but they will have their sights set on the first-place prize.

Haxton Picks Up Rockets to Double Through Dvoress

Niveau 18 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

Daniel Dvoress opened to 110,000 in middle position and Isaac Haxton used a time bank before three-betting to 265,000 on the button. Dvoress followed suit in using a time bank before four-bet jamming for 1,615,000. Haxton snapped with a stack of 1,370,000.

Isaac Haxton: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Daniel Dvoress: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Dvoress let out a groan as he saw he had run into aces and he received no help whatsoever from the runout of {3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

Dvoress thought Haxton had him covered but a laborious count confirmed that he had a few chips left.

"Did I miscount? I would've flatted the three-bet," Dvoress lamented.

"I think you get to re-do the hand if you miscounted!" joked Seth Davies.

Juan Pardo raised to 135,000 from under the gun and Daniel Dvoress just called from the big blind, leaving himself with 60,000 chips behind. The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Dvoress checked to Pardo who dropped in a bet of 100,000. Dvoress thought for over a minute before finally throwing his cards away.

On the next hand, Dvoress limped in from the small blind and Pardo raised it up in the big blind. Dvoress called off the last of his stack and the cards were tabled.

Daniel Dvoress: {k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Juan Pardo: {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and Pardo made three aces to send Dvoress home in sixth place.

Pardo Picks Off Watson's Colossal Bluff

Niveau 18 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Mike Watson
Mike Watson

The biggest pot of the tournament so far saw Mike Watson losing the majority of his stack to Juan Pardo after a heroic but failed three-bet river bluff.

Action kicked off with Juan Pardo opening to 100,000 in the cutoff before Watson called out of the big blind. Watson checked on the flop of {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{q-Hearts} and Pardo continued for 75,000. Watson called. Watson checked again on the {2-Diamonds} turn and Pardo checked back.

You may be asking, how did all the chips get in the pot? The river is where the real action began. Watson led out for 110,000 on the {4-Spades} river and Pardo used a time bank before raising to 440,000. Watson then pushed out two stacks of chips for a three-bet to 1,800,000.

Watson's raise sent Pardo deep in the tank and he used three time banks before calling. Watson showed {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for two pair, but Pardo had the {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for queens and deuces and a better two pair to leave the Canadian as the clear short stack.

Isaac Haxton open-jammed from the small blind and Mike Watson eyed the next shortest stack before calling off with around 750,000.

Mike Watson: {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Isaac Haxton: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Unfortunately for Watson, he was in bad shape as Haxton had him dominated. The board then ran out a clean {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and the Day 2 chip leader made his exit in fifth place for $404,100.

Pardo Runs Into a Davies Boat

Seth Davies
Seth Davies

Seth Davies opened to 135,000 from the cutoff and Juan Pardo called from the big blind. The flop came {j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Pardo check-called a bet of 180,000 from Davies.

The {j-Hearts} landed on the turn and Pardo led out with a bet of 180,000 this time. Davies called and the {q-Diamonds} completed the board. Pardo announced all in and Davies confirmed that he heard things correctly before calling off his stack of 1,150,000.

Pardo flipped over {6-Hearts}{4-Spades} for missed draws while Davies tabled {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for the best full house in order to double up.

Pardo Slips and Davies Climbs

Niveau 19 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

Juan Pardo opened to 125,000 in the cutoff and Seth Davies flat-called on the button to get things heads-up.

Pardo checked on the flop of {j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{a-Spades} and Davies checked back. Pardo then bet 400,000 on the {3-Spades} turn and Davies called. The {4-Diamonds} river completed the board and Pardo put out a hefty bet of 800,000. Davies confirmed the amount and called.

Pardo showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for top pair, but he was out-kicked by the {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} of Davies to lose back-to-back pots to the player on his immediate left.

Juan Pardo Eliminated in 4th Place ($522,900)

Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

Juan Pardo opened to 125,000 from the cutoff and Isaac Haxton three-bet to 305,000 from the small blind. Pardo responded with a four-bet jam with around 2,400,000 in his stack and Haxton called.

Juan Pardo: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Isaac Haxton: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Pardo found himself dominated and received no help from the runout of {8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Diamonds} to mark his elimination. Pardo had a fantastic Day 3 start that saw him taking a big chip lead but the rest of the day was less kind and he found himself out in fourth for $522,900.

There's still hope for a Spaniard to take home the gold with Adrian Mateos in contention.

Isaac Haxton raised to 500,000 on the button and Adrian Mateos shoved all in for around 4,300,000 in the small blind. Seth Davies got out of the way and Haxton quickly called to put Mateos at risk.

Adrian Mateos: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Isaac Haxton: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Haxton had the preflop lead and the flop of {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts} left it that way. The {9-Spades} on the turn nor the {10-Hearts} on the river provided any help for Mateos who bowed out in third place but will take home the largest sum of money after making a deal.
