Greenwood Heads Field Into Day 2 of $50,000 PCA 7-Handed

Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Welcome to Day 2 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Event #19: $50,000 7-Handed, where Canadian Sam Greenwood leads a field of 12 remaining high stakes players in search of the title at the beautiful Baha Mar Resort in The Bahamas.

That field is likely to grow today as late registration and re-entries remain open until the end of the third level of play. Greenwood holds an advantage over a list of prominent poker names including Fedor Holz, who at one point reached the 500,000 chip mark before bagging 256,000 to round out the top five.

Greenwood is followed closely by Dan Smith, Mikita Badziakouski and Jonathan Jaffe entering the final day of action.

Others in the mix include Conor Beresford, Sean Winter, Daniel Dvoress and Michael Addamo. Addamo battled back from a short stack of less than 30,000 chips to finish with 220,000 after the opening nine levels. Juan Pardo, Christoph Vogelsang and Kannapong Thanarattrakul round out the field heading into Day 2.

Play will resume on Level 10 with blinds of 2,000/4,000 with a 4,000 big blind ante. The late registration and re-entry period will remain open until the end of Level 12 and levels will be 30 minutes in length, with a scheduled 20-minute break every four levels of action.

New entries will begin with a stack 150,000 chips and four time bank cards. One additional time bank will be added at the start of each even-numbered level (10, 12, 14, 16, etc). The shot clock will remain in play with 20 seconds to act preflop while registration is open, and 30 seconds to act preflop once closed. All later streets will continue to be 30 seconds in length throughout the tournament.

Stick with the PokerNews team full coverage as the field plays down to crowning the latest PCA champion tonight.

Kannapong Thanarattrakul

Jonathan Jaffe's early position raise to 10,000 was met by a three-bet from Kannapong Thanarattrakul to 26,000. Jaffe then put in a four-bet and all of the chips were quickly in the middle, with Thanarattrakul at risk.

Kannapong Thanarattrakul: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Jonathan Jaffe: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Thanarattrakul found the immediate help he was seeking on the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, with the {9-Spades} turn and {5-Diamonds} river keeping his top pair ahead to double up at the hands of Jaffe.

Vogelsang Calls Correctly

Niveau 11 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

Christoph Vogelsang's button raise was called by Sam Greenwood in the small blind and Fedor Holz in the big blind. The action checked to Vogelsang after the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop and he continued for 8,000. Greenwood took his time before announcing a raise to 28,000, producing a fold from Holz and a call from Vogelsang.

Greenwood then led out on the {10-Hearts} turn for 60,000 and Vogelsang used a time bank card while counting his remaining stack. He eventually slid in the call to see the {9-Hearts} river.

Greenwood led out again, this time betting enough to put Vogelsang all in. Vogelsang removed his hood before sliding in another call, this time for his tournament life.

Greenwood revealed {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for kings and tens before Vogelsang turned over {k-Spades}{6-Hearts} for three kings, good enough for the full double up.

Juan Pardo

A battle of the blinds between Kannapong Thanarattrakul and Juan Pardo was checked through the {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, before Thanarattrakul fired a bet of 38,000 on the {5-Spades} turn.

Pardo counted his stack before making the call and quickly faced an all-in bet from Thanarattrakul after the {3-Clubs} river.

Pardo took a moment before making the call for all of his chips, revealing {4-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a pair of deuces. Thanarattrakul turned over {j-Spades}{7-Hearts} for a missed flush and straight draw, leaving Pardo with the double up.

Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Fedor Holz opened to 9,000 in middle position and Dan Smith flat-called from the cutoff.

Holz checked on the flop of {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Smith bet 9,000. Holz called. Holz checked again on the {3-Diamonds} turn and Smith checked back.

Holz checked a third time on the {4-Diamonds} river and Smith announced a bet of 30,000. Holz took some time and called.

Smith tabled {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for just king-high and Holz showed {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a pair of sixes, showing he wasn't scared of the four diamonds on board.

Beresford Builds His Lead

Niveau 12 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

Conor Beresford raised from under the gun to 10,000 and called a three-bet from Sean Winter on the button to 32,000.

The two players then checked the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop, before Beresford fired 25,000 on the {8-Hearts} turn. Winter called to see the {a-Spades} river, where Beresford used a time bank before announcing a bet of 175,000.

Winter used a time bank card of his own before tossing in the call, then mucked his hand when Beresford revealed {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a turned set of eights.

Winter was able to recover some of those chips by four-betting Juan Pardo on the next hand, but it was Beresford adding to his growing chip lead.

Sean Winter

Conor Beresford, who has dominated Day 2 so far, opened to 10,000 from the cutoff before Sean Winter three-bet to 42,000 in the small blind. Beresford four-bet all-in and Winter snap-called with the effective stack of 234,000.

Sean Winter: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Conor Beresford: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

"This day has gone pretty well for you!" Winter said as he saw he was flipping against Beresford, who he lost heaps to a few hands earlier.

The board proceeded to run out {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades} for Winter to earn the double through the chip leader before the two headed off to break.

Orpen Kisacikoglu
Orpen Kisacikoglu

Orpen Kisacikoglu was among the new entries to sit down at the start of Level 13 but his presence was short-lived.

In a heads-up pot against Juan Pardo on a board of {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} with most of Kisacikoglu's stack already in the middle, Pardo put out a stack of 25,000 chips to put Kisacikoglu to the test for his tournament life. Kisacikoglu called.

Pardo tabled {7-Spades}{6-Spades} for a flopped flush and Kisacikoglu showed a no-good top pair with {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} before making his exit.

Daniel Dvoress: {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Adams was ahead with top pair but needed to dodge a club to stay in contention. Luckily for him, the board finished out {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and he secured the double through his fellow Canadian.
