Doug Polk Makes Back-to-Back Final Tables at the Poker Masters

Niveau 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Another Day 1 is in the books of The Poker Masters at the ARIA Resort and Casino. It will be the ever-popular Doug Polk leading Event #4 when the final table begins on Sunday. It was one of those days that saw Polk's chips consistently on the rise and he managed to bag 1,357,000 chips when all was said and done.

Polk was a late addition to the field today as he also made the final table of Event #3. He finished in 5th place for $144,000 and will look to improve on that performance heading into tomorrow.

Steffen Sontheimer will be joining Polk on the final table, his third of the series. Brandon Adams, Zach Clark, David Peters, Jake Schindler, and Justin Bonomo will also be present at the final table.

When the players arrive on Sunday, the action will resume on the money bubble with only six players getting paid. A min-cash will be worth $97,500 and the winner will be taking home $819,000.

Polk and Adams are the only players over a million chips and the next closest is Sontheimer with just under 700,000. After a cash in Event #3, Polk will be looking to close in on The Poker Masters Purple Jacket race, which is led by Sontheimer. With a min-cash, Sontheimer will secure the first place spot heading into the $100,000 finale, taking place September 18-20.

Although today was the smallest field to date, there were still many players that came up short. Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Fedor Holz, Nick Schulman, Bryn Kenney, and Erik Seidel all took turns hitting the rail throughout the day.

This was the fourth and final $50,000 preliminary event with the final table taking place on Sunday. It will be live-streamed on PokerGO starting at 12:30 p.m. local time, along with the coverage on PokerNews. The rest of the players will get a one-day break as the $100,000 finale kicks off on Monday at 2:00 p.m. PST.

After losing a big pot to a flush from Brandon Adams, Christian Christner was left on the short stack. He shoved all-in from the hijack for 179,000 and Doug Polk called in the cutoff.

Polk: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Christner: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Christner was drawing extremely thin after Polk paired his ace. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and the river landed the {4-Spades}. Christner was eliminated on the final table bubble and the remaining players are bagging and tagging to return on Sunday.

Adams Raises Out Polk

Niveau 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Doug Polk opened to 27,000 from under the gun, and Steffen Sontheimer called in the hijack, as did Brandon Adams on the button.

The flop landed {6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Polk continued for 35,000 with Sontheimer folding. Adams called as the dealer produced the {Q-Hearts} on the turn and Polk bet out 60,000.

Adams pushed out a raise to 180,000 and Polk quickly mucked.

"Bluff me?" asked Polk.

Adams gestured to Polk that he could chose a card and Polk picked the {A-Spades}.

"Well, you had me beat!" quipped Polk as the table laughed.

Polk Rips It on the River

Niveau 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Doug Polk raised to 27,000 from the cutoff and Steffen Sontheimer defended his big blind. The dealer fanned the flop of {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Sontheimer check-called a bet of 17,000 from Polk.

The turn was the {a-Diamonds} and Sontheimer checked again. Polk fired in 47,000 and Sontheimer wasn't shying away.

The river brought the {10-Spades} and Sontheimer checked one more time. Polk announced all-in, a massive overbet as Sontheimer had over 600,000 in front of him. Sontheimer shook his head, "This doesn't make any sense." He mucked his cards and Polk raked in another pot.

Delayed C-Bet from Bonomo

Niveau 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Justin Bonomo raised to 24,000 from the cutoff and Christian Christner called out of the big blind. The flop came {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {3-Spades} on the turn.

Christner checked again and Bonomo went for the delayed continuation bet of 45,000. Christner called and the {5-Hearts} peeled off on the river. Christner checked for the third time and Bonomo fired again for 155,000. Christner let his hand go and the pot was shipped to Bonomo.
