Welcome to the 2019 US Poker Open!

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

It's time for the second annual US Poker Open here at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Action is set to kick off at 2 P.M. local time for the first event of this 10 event series.

The first event of the series is Event #1: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em. Players will begin with 125,000 chips and will have a chance to re-enter at least twice through the first nine levels of play. Levels for this event will be 30 minutes long and players will play down to the final table here on Day 1 of this two-day event. The final table will take place tomorrow and be live streamed on PokerGO.

Being a ten-event series, players will accumulate points for their finish in the event. The player who accumulates the most points over the course of the series will receive the title of US Poker Open Champion and will receive a prize of $100,000. Unlike in 2018 where the U.S. Poker Open Champion was crowned based on which player accumulated the most earnings throughout the series, the 2019 Champion will be decided using the High Roller of the Year points system. The player that accumulates the most High Roller of the Year points during the series will be crowned the U.S. Poker Open Champion and be awarded a $100,000 first-place prize. Last year's champion was Stephen Chidwick who amassed the most earnings over the course of the 2018 series.

Here how players will earn points for this year's event:

Last year saw winners such as Justin Bonomo, Mike Gorodinsky, Stephen Chidwick, Ben Tollerene, Benjamin Pollak, David Peters, and Keith Tilston all takedown events at the US Poker Open in 2018.

Rainer Kempe in earlier PokerGo action.

There was nearly 30,000 already in the pot on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Rainer Kempe checked over to Chuan Yu who was on the button. Yu put out a bet of 20,000. Kempe thought it over for a bit, then moved all in for 62,500. Yu paused for a moment, then called it off, putting Kempe at risk as he had the bigger stack.

Chuan Yu: {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Rainer Kempe: {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The {J-Spades} on the turn was safe for Yu, but the {Q-Diamonds} came on the river. It gave Yu two pair, but Kempe made the winning flush allowing him to double back over the starting stack mark.

Stephen Chidwick opened to 40,000, Sam Soverel three-bet to 175,000 and Chidwick called. The flop came down {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, Soverel bet 70,000 and Chidwick again called.

Daniel Weinand Eliminated in 12th Place ($18,000)

Niveau 17 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Daniel Weinand
Daniel Weinand

According to Daniel Weinand, a failed bluff cost him his tournament life. There was a raise from Jerry Robinson from under the gun and Joseph Cappello said he flatted on the button. Weinand called in the big blind.

The flop was {K-}{Q-}{8-} and action checked to Robinson who bet 60,000. Cappello called as did Weinand.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Weinand checked again. Robinson checked as well before Cappello bet 170,000. Weinand called leaving himself with just 75,000 behind. Robinson folded.

On the {K-} river, Weinand moved all in and Cappello quickly called with {K-}{Q-} for the best full house possible. Weinand later said he had {10-}{9-} for a double gutshot straight draw that he tried to use as a bluff.
