Chidwick Just Continues to Dominate; Leads Final Table of Event #6: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Niveau 16 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

It's been another impressive US Poker Open for Stephen Chidwick. After taking down the US Poker Open Championship in 2018, Chidwick has been unstoppable once again in this series. Over the course of the first six events, Chidwick has four cashes and four final tables.

His cashes so far total up to over $350,000 and with a cash in Event #6: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, he books another score of at least $58,500, bringing his total cashes to at least $400,000. Not only that, he'll be carrying the chip lead into the final table as well, being over a million chips ahead of his nearest competitor.

Among others to make it to the final table are Anthony Zinno, Tom Marchese, Sean Rafael, while Ben Lamb makes his second cash of the series and Cary Katz notches his third. Earlier in the day, Katz finished second to Ali Imsirovic in Event #5: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em for $295,000. Katz will come into the final day of play with 665,000 chips and sits fourth in the pack as he makes his third final table of the series. Here's a look at how the rest of the final table stacks up:

SeatPlayerChip Count
1Ben Lamb450,000
2Tom Marchese265,000
3Sean Rafael890,000
4Stephen Chidwick2,375,000
5Cary Katz665,000
6Anthony Zinno1,225,000

But there were also plenty of players who fell today as well. Among those who entered but didn't make it through the day were Alex Foxen, Chance Kornuth, Erik Seidel, Dan Shak, Phil Galfond, David Sands, Justin Bonomo, and Brandom Adams. Event #2 winner Jordan Cristos also hopped in the action today but he wasn't able to survive to make back-to-back pot-limit Omaha final tables. Ben Yu also fell today, unable to make his second cash of the series. Yu ran into the buzzsaw of Chidwick when he ended up making the second nut full house, but Chidwick made quads and that would spell the end of Yu's day.

Players played down to the final six today and at the final table of seven, one more would walk away without a payday. In the end, it was Jared Bleznick who fell as the bubble boy. Bleznick got it in with middle set against Chidwick's three-card wrap, and Chidwick turned the nut straight to send Bleznick home as the last player to walk away without any money. Bleznicks elimination guaranteed the final 6 players at least $58,500.

Bleznick Heads Out on the Bubble; Chidwick Leads Final Table

Niveau 16 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
John Riordan
John Riordan

Stephen Chidwick raised to 55,000 from under the gun, Cary Katz called and Jared Bleznick defended his big blind. The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Spades}, Bleznick bet 195,000 and Chidwick potted.

Katz folded and Bleznick called his entire 255,000, the players turned over their hands. Chidwick tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Bleznick turned over {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a flopped set.

The {a-Hearts} on the turn completed a straight for Chidwick and Bleznick would need to pair the board to stay alive. A {k-Spades} on the river sealed the deal for Chidwick with his straight, sending Bleznick out as the stone cold bubble.

The remaining six players will now all be guaranteed at least a cash of $58,500 and will be coming back tomorrow at 1 p.m. PST to play out the final table.

Winter has Come and Gone

Niveau 16 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Sean Winter
Sean Winter

Stephen Chidwick opened to 70,000 from the button, Sean Winter called in the big blind and the flop came down {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Both players checked and the {5-Spades} landed on the board.

Action checked to Chidwick who fired in 55,000 and Winter check-called. A {6-Clubs} hit the felt on the river, Winter checked to Chidwick who moved all in and Winter snap called.

Chidwick tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for nickels full of cowboys and Winter showed {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a slightly lower full house. Chidwick took in the pot, sending the current USPO point leader out the door.

Chidwick Busts Yu and Soverel

Niveau 15 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Ben Yu raised under the gun. Sam Soverel put his last 5,000 in the pot and Stephen Chidwick called in the cutoff. Sean Winter called in the small blind and Cary Katz called in the big blind as well.

The flop was {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and action checked to Chidwick who continued with a bet of 75,000. Winter and Katz folded quickly, but Yu called to see a turn.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} and Yu checked again. Chidwick made it 100,000 and Yu decided to call.

On the {8-Clubs} river, Yu checked for a third time. Chidwick now bet 200,000 which was enough to put Yu all in. Yu thought for a good while, thinking through his two final time extension chips and finally he landed on a call.

Chidwick turned up {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Spades} for quad meaning that Yu's {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}, for a full house, and Soverel's {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, also a full house, were both inferior. Chidwick took down the pot knocking out two players and he moved over 1.5 million in chips.
