Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Kate Hoang Eliminated in 2nd Place ($148,150)

Niveau 35 : 250,000/500,000, 0 ante
Kate Hoang
Kate Hoang

Left with crumbs after the earlier fold, Kate Hoang was all in for the third time in a row, this time for 300,000 on the button.

Kate Hoang: {Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Julien Martini: {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} to give Martini the lead with a pair of tens. The {Q-Diamonds} on the turn swung the lead to Hoang, but the {K-Diamonds} on the river improved Martini to the winner and ended the tournament.

Cheering, Martini walked to the French rail and high fived them one by one, before making his way over to Hoang. He shook her hand and bowed his head in respect for Hoang's tough opposition.

After winning $182,281 in the $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better two years ago, Hoang added another six-figure score to her poker resumé and said her goodbyes in second place.

With his victory, Julien Martini became the 18th French bracelet winner in WSOP history. He added $239,771 to his lifetime winnings, by far the biggest score of his career. The winner's photo and an extensive recap of the tournament will follow shortly.

Hoang Left With Crumbs

Niveau 35 : 250,000/500,000, 0 ante

Julien Martini limped in and Kate Hoang checked. On the {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, both players checked. On the {K-Diamonds} turn, Hoang check-raised and Martini called. The {5-Diamonds} fell on the river and Hoang bet with 150,000 behind. Martini raised and Hoang folded to be left with crumbs and forced all in the next hand.

Hoang survived the forced all-in and doubled to 300,000 with {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Spades} versus {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} on a board of {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades}{K-Spades}.

One hand later, she was all in and at risk with {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} and Martini had the {K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}. The board came {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and Hoang had the low. Martini rivered the high with two pair.

Hoang Gets Quartered

Niveau 35 : 250,000/500,000, 0 ante

In the first hand of the new level, Kate Hoang limped in and Julien Martini checked his option. The {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} flop and {A-Spades} turn were checked. On the {3-Clubs} river, Martini bet and Hoang raised, Martini made it three bets and Hoang called.

Martini showed {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the full house and the wheel, and Hoang only had {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a wheel to get quartered.

Kate Hoang raised and Julien Martini called. On the {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop, Martini check-called and did so again on the {3-Diamonds} turn and the {Q-Clubs} river. Hoang turned over {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for the wheel and scooped her opponent.

Martini raised and Hoang called. Hoang check-called one bet on the {J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, then check-folded the {5-Clubs} turn to the second barrel of Martini.

Still Back and Forth

Niveau 34 : 200,000/400,000, 0 ante

One for Kate Hoang, one for Julien Martini, and two chop pots; the stacks remain even as we near the end of Level 34. In the hand Hoang won, she defended her big blind and the {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop went check-check. Hoang bet the {K-Spades} turn and Martini called, but Martini folded to a river bet on {2-Clubs}.

The Frenchman also took a non-showdown pot on the button, two hands later. After raising preflop, he bet the {3-Spades}{A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop and got a call. Hoang checked the {J-Spades} turn, Martini bet, and Hoang folded.
