Event #46: $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Only 15 Remain as Ian Shaw Leads the Way Heading Into The Final Day of Play in Event #46

Niveau 20 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Ian Shaw
Ian Shaw

From the starting 152 players who began Day 2 of Event #46: $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better, only 15 were left standing at the end of play. The leader of the pack when play concluded was Ian Shaw who bagged 575,000 chips. Left standing among the field are the likes of bracelet winners Cyndy Violette, Brendan Taylor, Eric Rodawig, and Hani Awad. Awad will be looking to add another Stud/Omaha mix title under his belt as he won this very same event just a couple of years ago in 2016.

With 152 players to start the day, bust outs were quick and plentiful. Some of those to fall without making it into the money include Phil Ivey, Shanon Petluck, Nicholas Derke, Tommy Hang, Robert Campbell, John Hennigan, Barry Greenstein, Jeff Lisandro, Phil Hui, Marco Johnson, Kate Hoang, and Jesse Martin to name a few.

Another big name not to squeak into the cash was Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu never really found any traction over the course of the day and eventually fell to Tyle Groth. Negreanu led a stud hand up until seventh street with a pair of nines, but Groth made aces up and that would send the Canadian to the rail before the payouts.

Mark Vathanasin was the bubble boy of the tournament, being eliminated in 62nd place. Vathanasin came into hand for hand play as the short stack and found a hand to go with just a few hands into bubble play. Vathanasin held the early lead with a pair of fives but Jeff Mitseff took control on fourth with a pair of aces. Neither player improved on fifth or sixth and there was no low draw to be had. On seventh, Vathanasin was the first to table his last down card and made two pair, eights and fives. However, Mitseff also pull an eight on his last card to make aces and eights, sending Vathanasin home on the bubble.

That brought the remaining 61 players into the money, but the bustouts didn't stop there. Some of the players to make it through to the money but not a whole lot further include Scott Abrams (60th for $3,736), Joe Hachem (49th for $3,891), Konstantin Puchkov (47th for $4,165), Robert Mizrachi (45th for $4,165), Ian Johns (38th for $4,577), Scott Clements (33rd for $4,577), Jameson Painter (23rd for $5,969), and Ron Ware (21st for $5,969). Hachem had quite the roller coaster day, being up to nearly 200,000 early, but quickly losing it back to bracelet winner Brendan Taylor. Hachem would bust before the dinner break to Michael Horowitz when Horowitz made two pair to crack Hachem's aces in stud.

Players will return at 2 p.m. tomorrow to kick back off in level 21 with limits of 12,000 and 24,000. The plan is to play down to a winner and with just 15 players left in the tournament, this goal is likely to be reached. Currently, the remaining 15 placers are all guaranteed a payout of at least $7,074 for 15th place, but of course what they are all aiming for is the first place prize of $214,291. PokerNews will be back to finish the coverage of this event and we'll be here from start to finish, so don't miss a thing.

The action was the same on sixth and everyone decided to check on seventh. Restifo rolled over {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a pair of aces and an eight low. Taylor's cards quickly hit the muck while Torosyan looked through his hand and his cards eventually went face down as well.

Three Deuces Underneath Nets Ospino a Big Pot

Niveau 20 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

Daniel Ospina completed with the {5-Diamonds} showing before Eric Rodawig made it two bets holding the {5-Clubs}. Action folded back to Ospina who called.

Daniel Ospina: {x-}{x-}/{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{A-Clubs}/{x-}
Eric Rodawig: {x-}{x-}/{5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}/{x-}

Rodawig checked on every street with the lead and at each opportunity, Ospina put out a bet. On seventh, when Rodawig called Ospina's last bet, Ospina turned over {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} for trips and a low. and that would get a muck from Rodawig. Ospina scooped the big pot to move to nearly 500,000.
