Day 1 of Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Kicks Off Today

2017 Winner Chris Klodnicki
2017 Winner Chris Klodnicki

Last year Chris Klodnicki beat a 1,956-strong field to bag the top spot taking home $428,423 in prize money and winning his first bracelet at the same time.

After placing as runner-up in three bracelet events leading up this one, it turned out to be fourth time lucky for the American, who emerged victorious on an unquestioningly tough final table line-up that included Ben Zamani, Darren Elias and Kenny Hallaert. Time will tell whether Klodnicki will be able to defend his title or if there will be a new champion crowned in three day's time.

The tournament starts at 3p.m. local time, here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, in the Brasilia Room. Players start with 7,500 chips and will play 10 60-minute levels today. There will be 15-minute breaks every two levels. Late registration is open for the first eight levels (12a.m.) so there is plenty of time for challengers to take their seat.

Ioakimides Off to a Strong Start

Niveau 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

There were five players still in by the time the dealer laid out the {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop.

Nick Vavalle led for 850 into a 1,600 pot and only Andros Ioakimides wanted to see another card. The turn came the {4-Diamonds} and Vavalle bet again, making it 1,250 this time. Ioakimides came along.

The last card out was the {8-Diamonds} , pairing the top card and both players checked and went to showdown.

Andros Ioakimides: {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Nick Vavalle: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

It was two pair for Ioakimides, who scooped the pot.

Small Pot for Therme

Niveau 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

On a raised pot, the board was showing {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and three players were involved. Jonathan Therme checked from the small blind and his opponent bet 250. The action folded back to Therme who made the call.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} and went check-check. On the river {4-Diamonds}, Therme bet 300 and it was enough to win the chips.
