Tan Leads Day 2 of Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em; Margolin Inching Closer to Second Bracelet of the Series

Niveau 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Longsheng Tan
Longsheng Tan

Event #66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em drew a total of 1,351 entries and after two days of play, just 26 players remain. Leading the way is Longsheng Tan with 993,000, and Heng Zhang, who vaulted to the top of the counts in the last level, is right on his heels with 938,000.

Stephen Bierman rounds out the top three Day 2 chips stacks with 744,000 and Timur Margolin will return with a healthy stack of 513,000 as he inches closer to his second WSOP bracelet of the series.

Margolin bested the stacked 1,248-entry field in the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em (Event #43) to earn over $500,000 and his first WSOP bracelet less than two weeks ago.

John Pannucci, who bagged the overall chip lead on Day 1, held strong near the top of the counts and bagged one of the biggest stacks on Day 2 with 512,000.

It was a roller coaster Day 2 for Rex Clinkscales who managed to battle back after doubling up Jason Song and put chips in the bag.

There was no shortage of Day 2 action and plenty of big name pros hit the rail along the way. WSOP bracelet winners Ben Yu, Arkadiy Tsinis, and Ryan Bambrick were eliminated early on.

Two more WSOP bracelet winners were eliminated with less than two hours of play left in the night as Kenny Hallaert and Brock Parker fell in back-to-back hands.

Gaelle Baumann grinded a short stack for much of the night but she fell by the wayside in the very last hand of the night.

The final 26 will return on Saturday, July 7 at 2 p.m. to resume Day 3 play and PokerNews will be bringing you all of the live updates. The players are all guaranteed at least $9,657 and they will battle it out to a winner who will take home $323,472 and the most coveted jewelry in poker.

Hallaert Hits the Rail

Niveau 19 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

Kenny Hallaert raised to 13,000 from middle position and it folded to Georgios Angelo Tavoularis in the big blind. Tavoularis reraised to 46,000 and Hallaert moved all in for 198,000. Tavoularis quickly called, turning over {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}, and Hallaert showed {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Tavoularis improved to top set. The two players had nearly identical stacks to start the hand but they were counted down. Tavoularis had Hallaert slighty covered and the latter made his way to the payout line after wishing his tablemates good luck.

Pannucci Triples Up

Niveau 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
John Pannucci
John Pannucci

A player in early position moved all in for 62,500 and David Huang re-shoved all in for about 175,000. It folded to John Pannucci in the big blind and he put his last 57,500 into the pot.

John Pannucci: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
David Huang: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Early Position: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The dealer fanned the {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop and there was a king in the window for Pannucci to take control of the hand. The turn {9-Hearts} and river {9-Clubs} improved Pannucci to a full house and he tripled his stack.

Double Elimination for Engerman

Niveau 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Benjamin Moon
Benjamin Moon

It was a clash of the premium hands just now, with three players committing all their chips preflop. John Orth moved all in first in middle position and Benjamin Moon shoved over the top from the small blind. Lawrence Engerman over called in the big blind and the trio spun their cards on their backs.

Lawrence Engerman: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Benjamin Moon: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
John Orth: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Moon and Orth were drawing pretty thin and the {7-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board favored Engerman's ladies, sending both Moon and Orth to the rail. It sees the end of Moon's hopes to win two bracelets in this year's series, after taking down Event #13: Big Blind Antes $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

Hallaert Doubles Through Clinkscales

Niveau 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

Rex Clinkscales limped in from the small blind and Kenny Hallaert checked from the big. They went heads-up to the {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop and Clinkscales checked.

Hallaert bet 4,000 and Clinkscales called. The turn was the {k-Clubs} and Clinkscales checked to Hallaert who bet 15,000. Clinkscales check-raised all in and Hallaert nearly beat him into the pot for his last 68,000 turning over {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

Clinkscales was drawing dead holding {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and the meaningless {8-Clubs} completed the board to earn Hallaert the double-up.

Margolin Applies Pressure

Niveau 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Timur Margolin
Timur Margolin

Two players were on the turn, Timur Margolin and Raphael Poujade. The board read {6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{k-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Margolin checked to Poujade, who bet 25,000 into a roughly 75,000 pot. Margolin called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Margolin checked again. Poujade made it 45,000 to get to showdown and had 155,000 behind. Margolin took a couple of minutes before he decided to set Poujade all-in. It looked like a difficult decision for Poujade who tanked for a minute or so before reluctantly making a fold.

Guerrero Doubles Through Hung

Jimmy Guerrero
Jimmy Guerrero

There has been a continuous spate of bustouts in the last few hours, but not in this hand. Jimmy Guerrero shipped all in when it came unopened to him on the cutoff and Chen Yu Hung, who was sat on his left, made the call. The blinds moved aside and the pair turned their cards on their backs.

Chen Yu Hung: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Jimmy Guerrero: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Hung was ahead pre and remained so on the {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. The {k-Clubs} turn changed all that though and Guerrero moved into the lead. It bricked on the {8-Clubs} river and Guerrero doubled through.

Victor Ramdin and Brock Parker were heads-up on the {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board. Ramdin led out with a bet of 5,000 into a main pot of about 25,000 and Parker called.

The river was the {4-Clubs} and Ramdin fired out a bet of 14,000. Parker moved all in and Ramdin snap called for his last 13,500. Parker turned over {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for aces full and Ramdin showed {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for trip fours.

"You better make the final table" Ramdin joked as he made his way to the payout line and Parker replied "I'll do my best."
