Bohlman and Galfond Look for Summer Double in Event #69: $3,000 PLO 6-Max

Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

The 21st century hasn't seen a year without celebrating a multiple WSOP bracelet champion. David Bach and Nipun Java joined those ranks last year, snagging two golds apiece in Las Vegas. With just over a week left in the main series, there's yet to be a double champion crowned this summer.

Scott Bohlman had been swinging and missing for 13 years until he finally found his way to capturing his first gold this summer. Then he almost doubled down, adding a second-place finish. Now Bohlman is trying hard again, leading last 24 players in the Event #69: $3,000 PLO 6-Max. Not only to extend the streak of single-season double champions but also to take home the juicy $475,033 top-prize.

With the Main Event unconventionally slated two weeks before the end of the series, the cameras will be all heavily concentrated in the Amazon Room. That will leave the PLO players in peace as they're scheduled to play their final day in the Miranda Room. But it's almost guaranteed that if the Main Event wasn't overlapping, the PLO would get a ton of TV attention.

The final four tables are packed with tons of big names, including high stakes legend Phil Galfond who has already topped the $10k PLO8 Championship this year. Galfond will join Bohlman in the pursuit of becoming the first 2018 double winner. While Bohlman brings over 130 big blinds to the tables with 1,570,000 in chips, Galfond will have a much tougher start with 274,000.

But Galfond has already made it to the throne three times so he surely knows how to proceed in the final stages of a WSOP event. Another three-time champ in the field is Brock Parker, whose belongings are even thinner than Galfond's. The rest of the competition offers several other decorated players such as Jan-Peter Jachtmann, Martin Kozlov, Tommy Le and Christopher Frank. So joins us for the final day coverage as the PokerNews live report continues at 2 p.m. local time.

Jan-Peter Jachtmann

Jan-Peter Jachtman had bet on the flop of {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} when we arrived and Martin Kozlov decided to put him at risk. Jachtmann called and the cards were on their backs.

Kozlov: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Jachtmann: {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}

The {2-Spades} turn was good for Jachtmann but the {7-Clubs} river filled Kozlov's flush draw and Jachtmann was eliminated in 16th place.

Picking up what happened when Evangelos Kokkalis was standing up and Romain Lewis was dragging all his chips, it became apparent that Kokkalis couldn't beat Lewis' {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} on the board of {3-}{10-}{K-}{10-}{5-}. Kokkalis flopped two pair with {K-}{3-} but his hand was counterfeited when the turn paired the board.

Lewis Takes a Big Pot From Kozlov

Niveau 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Romain Lewis

There were about 150,000 chips in the pot and the board read {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} when we got to the table. Romain Lewis checked from the big blind, Martin Kozlov bet 100,000 from the button, Lewis check-raised to what looked like 320,000, and Kozlov called.

The turn brought the {A-Spades} and Lewis bet 325,000. Kozlov called.

The {6-Hearts} hit the river and both players checked. Lewis announced a straight and tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. Kozlov showed two nines and mucked his other two cards, so the dealer pushed the substantial pot to Lewis.

Small blind Martin Kozlov made it 72,000 and [Removed:321] Abedi three-bet to 216,000 in the big blind. Kozlov called and called another 100,000 on the {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop. The {5-Spades} landed on the turn and Kozlov front-shoved. Abedi quickly called for his last 149,000.

Kozlov: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Abedi: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}

Abedi flopped the nuts while Kozlov turned trips. Abedi needed to fade any ace, king, ten, or the remaining five, and he was able to do so on the {2-Spades} river.
