McDermott Eliminates Two

2-7 Single Draw

Timothy McDermott opened for 5,500 in middle position and was called by the player on the button, Steven Friedlander. Ben Yu shoved all in for 59,700 in the big blind and McDermott tanked a long time then called. Friedlander called off for less, just over 50,000.

Yu and McDermott patted and Friedlander took a card. Yu showed {10-}{9-}{8-}{7-}{2-} and was out of the tournament when McDermott rolled over {9-}{8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}.

Friedlander had a live draw with {8-}{5-}{3-}{2-} but bricked when the {q-} arrived.

Kassela Hits His Outs

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

2-7 Single Draw

With the smallest of stacks in front of him, Frank Kassela picked No-limit 2-7 Single Draw as the game and went all in for his last 9,000 chips on the first hand. All other players folded, and Kassela took down the blinds.

On the very next hand, Kassela shoved once again from the hijack and got a call in the big blind from Scott Clements. Both players tabled their hands, and Clements drew one.

Frank Kassela: {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{x-}
Scott Clements: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

Kassela saw that he only needed to avoid drawing a ten to come away with the win, and ended up picking up the {k-Diamonds} to win the pot. Kassela's massage therapist cheered enthusiastically, and Kassela doubled up for the second straight hand.

"I like having 49 clean outs," Kassela said.

Franklin Likes What He Sees

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

2-7 Triple Draw

There was a mountain of chips, at least 70,000, in the middle when Frankie O'Dell and Mike Ross checked on the end. Tom Franklin squeezed out his cards.

"Whoo whoo!" he shouted, tossing in a bit.

O'Dell called and Ross snap-folded. Franklin showed an eight-perfect and swept up the massive pot.

Yakovenko Still Climbing

Nikolai Yakovenko, in an earlier event.

Big O

A player opened for 6,000 in the cutoff and Nikolai Yakovenko potted to 21,000 on his left. The opener tanked awhile and called the shove for about 10,000 on the {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop.

Yakovenko was in there with a snap-call for all but his last 3,000, holding {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} for trips. He was fading diamonds as his opponent showed {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. The turn was a {4-Spades} and the river a {k-Hearts}, so Yakovenko scored the knockout.

Yakovenko was down to his last 4,000 and peeling his last card behind in a draw hand a little before dinner, and has now got a very playable stack.

Gorr Rips

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

2-7 Single Draw

After the draw, Samuel Gorr shoved into two players. It was just over 9,000 into a pot of about 15,000. The first player snap-mucked but John Monnette needed longer. Gorr held out his cards as if he was ready and excited to flip them over. Monnette thought better of it and released.

Horowitz Applies the Pressure

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

With the board reading {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} Jason Stockfish put in a 12,000-chip turn bet from under the gun, and got a call from Scott Horowitz in the big blind.

The river brought the {7-Clubs}, and after a couple minutes of intently staring at the board, Horowitz led out for his remaining 51,000 stack. Stockfish instantly folded.

Rice and Kelly Chop Up Frazin

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

In a pot that saw a preflop three-bet by Peter Kelly and two calls, the board read {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Kelly checked in the small blind, big blind Jack Rice bet and Tim Frazin jammed his last 4,100 in. Kelly woke up with a raise and Rice called. The river was a {k-Spades} and Kelly checked. Rice tanked a bit and checked back.

"That was a terrible check by me," Kelly said, showing {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

It was a chop as Rice held {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}, and Frazin hit the rail without a hand that could beat a straight.

A Big Decision for Horowitz

Niveau 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

All three draws were complete and a big pot was brewing between Mike Watson and Scott Horowitz.

Horowitz put out a bet in the final betting round, and Watson responded by going all-in, sending Horowitz deep into the tank.

"What are the chances?" Horowitz said, spending several minutes on the decision. He apologized to the table for tanking, and after more than five minutes finally let his hand go.
