Brutal Hand on the Bubble

Niveau 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Action was picked up on the flop, with one player all in and another deep in the tank.

Preflop and postflop action were recalled by players at the table.

Action folded to Isaac Kawa on the button, he raised to 22,000 and was called by David Frenkel in the small blind.

The flop came {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, which is when things got interesting.

Frenkel led out, Kawa three-bet, Frenkel then four-bet shoved, which sent Kawa deep into the tank.

After several minutes he made the call and the players tabled their hands.

Frenkel: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Kawa: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

The top pair with top kicker for Kawa was behind Frenkel's flopped set, which held through the {2-Clubs} turn and {6-Spades} river.

The players had almost identical stacks, and when both were counted down Kawa was left with only 35,000.

Got Paid and Never Played

Niveau 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

One player made the money without even playing a single hand today.

That player was James Ray.

His 135,000 in chips started the day at Table 221, and by the time the money bubbled had burst those chips had dwindled down to 4,000 and were on Table 171, still in the rack.

Kelly Making Some Great Deals on the Bubble

Niveau 17 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Matt Kelly (at another WSOP event)
Matt Kelly (at another WSOP event)

After an early position raise to 25,000 from Ryan McBride and a late position call, it was Matt Kelly who shoved his final 75,000 in from the big blind. McBride four-bet to 125,000 to get the hand heads-up.

While they had to wait until all tables during hand-for-hand were completed, Kelly got involved in some side betting with his table mates. McBride proposed "twenty bucks to the loser?" which Kelly quickly accepted.

Man Pham got the player at risk an even better deal shortly after. Kelly already had revealed he was holding kings, while McBride slipped that he had sevens. Pham then offered $500 to Kelly's $200 in case the sevens would win. It was a great deal for the man from Fort Worth, Texas, who snap-accepted the favorable odds.

After all tables were done, the cards went on their backs.

Matt Kelly: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Ryan McBride: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Kelly was briefly scared of a possible straight before seeing he had the best of it. Since the kings held up, he reached into his pocket to pay Pham the $200, and McBride the $20.

"You know what? That's a great deal because I doubled up," Kelly stated.

"My Dad's Name is Jack and My Mom Called Him Ace"

Niveau 17 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Jeff Yarchever (at another WSOP event)
Jeff Yarchever (at another WSOP event)

Jeff Yarchever is getting the credits today for being the one to eliminate the bubble boy. The player had moved in with {4-}{4-} from middle position and Yarchever called him with {a-}{j-} from the big blind. A jack came in the window to give Yarchever the elimination and burst the bubble on Day 1d.

"Tell you what. My dad's name is Jack and my mom called him Ace," he quipped about holding ace-jack. "This is also my dealer, I'm from LA," he said, pointing at the one tossing him the cards.

"I had 8,000 left on Day 1 after losing kings versus aces. I then got it in with ace-king, hit a king on the river and never looked back," Yarchever continued, who now sits pretty at 700,000 after breaking the bubble.

Big Slick Doesn't Do the Trick

Niveau 17 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Sebastian Crema raised to 28,000 and was called by the player on the button. Justin Greenberg shoved his remaining 101,000 from the small blind, which got a call from Crema and prompted a fold from the button.

Crema: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Greenberg: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs} which was no help to Greenberg, who then headed to the payout line.

Wilkie Survives With King High

Niveau 17 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Steve Wilkie moved all in for his last 69,000 after a player raised to 30,000 from early position, Wilkie's opponent called.

Steve Wilkie: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Wilkie had his opponent dominated heading to the flop and it stayed ahead after it came {3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

Both players picked up a broadway draw after the {q-Diamonds} turn. Wilkie now had to dodge a king to stay alive.

The river was a brick with the {4-Clubs} and Wilkie got a much needed double up.
