Day 1 of Event #47: $1,000/$10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship is Finally Here

Today is the day a lot of women who play poker all over the world have been looking forward to. It’s Day 1 of Event #47: $1,000/$10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship. In a week which is traditionally known as 'Ladies Week' in Las Vegas, there are many events running that cater for female poker players especially. But the headline has and always will be the Ladies Championship here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Last year’s tournament attracted 696 entries and the 2018 winner, Jessica Dawley, will be defending her title this year.

Dawley took down the event for her first gold WSOP bracelet and $130,230 by beating Jill Pike heads-up. Lisa Fong, Mesha James, Jacqueline Burkhart, Tara Cain, Weiyi Mo, Molly-Anne Mossey, Tara Snow, and Danielle Andersen also made to the final table which featured ten ladies last year. The tournament technically costs $10,000 to enter, but with a $9,000 deduction for female players applied meaning ladies will pay $1,000 to take part.

This summer, there have already been five women featured on WSOP final tables. Maria Ho, Maria Mcalpin, Thida Lin, Jennifer Dennis, and Arianna Son all went deep but didn’t manage to win their final all-ins. Lin came the closest to winning a bracelet with a runner-up finish in Event #30: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha.

The tournament is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. local time here at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker. Ten levels of 60 minutes each are planned with a 20-minute break after every two levels. A 75-minute dinner break will take place after the sixth level which will be at approximately 5:40 p.m. Late registration is possible until the start of Level 9, which should be around 9:15 p.m. local time.

As usual, the PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you all the action from the floor right here so stick around for all the latest updates!
