Ian Matakis, Day 2 Chip Leader
Ian Matakis, Day 2 Chip Leader

With all the Day 1s now complete, the final field for Day 2 of Event #84: $100 WSOP MILLION$ [Final Day], $2M GTD is now set. When the dust settled there were nearly 35,000 entries in this event, which blew past the $2M guarantee to set to the total prizes at $3,200,404.

A total of 3,600 players will share in that prize pool, with the earliest cashers getting paid $286, while everyone who makes the final table will be guaranteed almost $15K. They'll all be looking up top though, as the winner today gets $284,403 in addition to a package to WSOP Europe and the shiny new bracelet.

American Ian "potamophobia" Matakis leads the chip counts with almost 450K, while German player "MonsterMan" is the only other player with more than 400K. They'll be leading a field of just over 4,300 into Day 2 action.

WSOP Legend: Jeff Lisandro Wins Three Stud Bracelets in One Year

Niveau 3 : 1,500/3,000, 375 ante

Jeff Lisandro

The 2009 World Series of Poker stood out in history for several things. It was the second year of the now-defunct November Nine, when Joe Cada became the youngest-ever world champion at 21 after defeating Maryland logger Darvin Moon heads-up. Phil Ivey finished seventh in the event, ensuring massive coverage throughout the Main Event and the final table in November.

While the 2009 Main Event is probably what's remembered most from that year, there was another story brewing that year when Australian professional Jeff Lisandro went on an unprecedented tear in the stud portion of the WSOP, and pulled off a feat that's yet to be matched: winning three stud-events in a single year.

To this date, Lisandro remains the only player to have pulled off that feat in nothing but stud events, and was the first player since Ivey in 2002 to win three bracelets in a single summer.

In the first hand, Nir "kisaaa" Amar got a small stack in with ace-queen against ten-five, and despite their opponent hitting a ten on the flop, ran out to Broadway for the double. In the very next hand, the two got it in again, this time on a {j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop after Amar virtually shoved preflop. Amar was in good shape with aces over nines, and held for a second straight double.

Event 33: $1,111 Every 1 for Covid Relief (Caesars Cares) ended this past Sunday. Alek Stasiak was the eventual winner taking home $343,203 and a gold bracelet. Typically a story like this is all we have at the end of a poker tournament. We follow the big names and love hearing about someone unknown making a deep run and how it came about. Event 33 gave us that story and much more.

The tournament attracted 2,323 participants, who each donated $111 of their buy-in to the Caesars Cares assistance fund; this fund supports Caesars Entertainment team members across the U.S. who have suffered unanticipated hardships as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
