2020 WSOP Online Event #5: $1,000 NLH Freezeout Starts at 3 p.m. PDT

The 2020 Online World Series of Poker continues today with the first non-rebuy tournament today as Event #5: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout is set to get underway at 3:00 p.m. PDT.

The freezeout event features 15-minute blind levels and the $1,000 buy-in gives players 20,000 chips to play with. Late registration will be open for the first 4 hours of play and with this being a freezeout tournament, once a player is eliminated, they won't be able to rebuy.

This is a single day event meaning the entire tournament will be played out online and the winner will take home a WSOP Gold Bracelet.

This is the fifth of 85 bracelet events being held on WSOP.com (31 events – one each day for the month of July) and GG Poker ( holding the remaining 54 events).

The former client will cater to players in Nevada and New Jersey (players in Delaware are NOT able to participate), while the latter will serve the international base.

How To Play

The first step in getting set up to play on WSOP.com is to download the client. You can do so for both mobile (Android and iOS) and desktop (Windows 7 or higher and Mac OS X 10.6.8).

To get the correct version of the client, use the links below:

Darren "avocadotoast" Rabinowitz Looking to Follow Up on March WSOP.com Ring Victory

Niveau 2 : 30/60, 0 ante
Darren Rabinowitz
Darren Rabinowitz

When it comes to Las Vegas grinders, Darren Rabinowitz is up there with the best of them. He’s a familiar face at tournament series around town, but this month he’s on the virtual grind looking to capture his first WSOP gold bracelet.

To date, Rabinowitz, who plays under the screenname “avocadotoast,” has more than $2.2 million in lifetime earnings, including a career-best $393,676 for finishing fourth in the 2014 Aussie Millions.

When it comes to the WSOP, he has amassed 85 WSOP-related cashes for $858,413 in earnings. That includes three WSOP Circuit gold ring victories. The first came in 2013 when he took down the WSOPC Horseshoe Cincinnati Event #5: $580 NLH Six-Handed for $19,664, and then a year later he won his second in the WSOPC Caesars Las Vegas Event #6: $365 NLH Six-Handed for $27,216.

His third came more recently back in March, which is when he was victorious in the WSOP.com Online Circuit Event #8: $1,000 NLH High Roller 6-Max. Clearly, he knows what it takes to succeed online.

Rabinowitz is in action today and was kind enough to send us a picture of him at his grind station. You can follow him on Twitter @DarrenRabbi.

The New Jersey Triumvirate: Bo Cappello, Al Riccobono & Parker Drew

Niveau 4 : 75/150, 0 ante
Al Riccobono, Joseph “Bo” Cappello, and Parker Drew
Al Riccobono, Joseph “Bo” Cappello, and Parker Drew

Remember, the WSOP online bracelet events are open to players in both Nevada and New Jersey. The "Garden State" option has appealed to a lot of East Coast grinders who traveled to the state in order to play. Case in point Bo "proudpatriot" Cappello, Al "bigal16" Riccobono, and Parker "PoutyPrinced" Drew, who are all in a New Jersey hotel room grinding today's tournament.

One of them got off to a great start and is the early chip leader. Cappello doubled in the very first hand with aces against jacks, and not long after he picked up aces again against an opponent who held kings.

In the live real, Cappello has more than $2.5 million in lifetime earnings, which includes a career-best $292,500 for winning the 2016 WSOP Circuit Baltimore Main Event. He also has Borgata and Wynn victories for nearly $300K apiece.

As for Riccobono, he’s a longtime grinder with results dating back to 2006. His biggest score of $45,422 came back in 2007 when he finished 267th in the WSOP Main Event.

Finally, Drew has $126K in live tournament earnings. His best score to date was $51,443 for finishing second in the 2017 Foxwoods World Poker Finals Event #1: $600 NLH. In 2013, he also won a WSOPC ring when he took down a $365 Turbo event at the Foxwoods stop.

Sangannagari Hung Out to Dry

Sridhar Sangannagari
Sridhar Sangannagari

Matt "OMG_Obama" Iles raised to 450 from the cutoff and Sridhar "sri50k" Sangannagari called from the small blind. "ThxSimGod" came along from the big and it was three-way action to the {5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop.

Sangannagari led out for 675, "ThxSimGod" folded, and Iles three-bet to 3,375. Sangannagari called off the 1,707 he had behind and the hands were tabled.

Matt "OMG_Obama" Iles: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}
Sridhar "sri50k" Sangannagari: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Sangannagari went with his straight draw and he picked out more outs on the {q-Hearts} turn. Unfortunately for him, the {2-Spades} bricked the river and Iles' pair of nines won the pot.

Marvin "mkarlins" Karlins opened for 500 from middle position and he was called by "patmoore967" from the cutoff, along with Jacob "HU4ROLLZ" Naumann from the big blind.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and action was checked to Karlins who continued for 925.

Marvin "mkarlins" Karlins: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Jacob "HU4ROLLZ" Naumann: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Both players flopped a set but Naumann's was better and neither the {k-Diamonds} turn nor the {q-Spades} river helped Karlins as he was eliminated from the tournament.

Matthew "MattyFlushes" Larkin opened under the gun for 1,000 and Mike "Mkspresident" Shin three-bet to 3,400 from late position.

Action folded back around to Larkin who called to see a {4-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop.

Matthew "MattyFlushes" Larkin: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Mike "Mkspresident" Shin: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Larkin was behind and the {k-Clubs} turn left him drawing dead.

Negreanu Eliminated by McKnight

Daniel Negreanu

Action on the table folded around to "ReddRockets" who limped in from the hijack, Ryan "dabooc" McKnight raised to 2,400 on the button and Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu three-bet jammed for 6,690 from the big blind.

"ReddRockets" mucked their hand while McKnight called and the two players tabled their hands.

Ryan "dabooc" McKnight: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu: {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Mcknight was slightly ahead and nothing changed after the {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop.

The {q-Spades} turn wasn't a horrible card for Negreanu but the {2-Diamonds} river was as it gave McKnight a full house and ended his tournament.
