Victory in Event #6: $200 FLIP & GO Earns Georgios Sotiropoulos Second Bracelet Plus $117,022

Georgios Sotiropoulos
Georgios Sotiropoulos

It took just under three hours for the "Go Stage" of Event #6: $200 FLIP& GO to crown a champion in the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Online, and when the last chance saloon had closed for business it was Georgios Sotiropoulos reigning supreme over the 6,368 player field to claim his second bracelet, along with the $117,022 first-place money.

Sotiropoulos was second on the leaderboard to start the final table and it took just one hand to send him to the top when he took down the kings of Wing Tat Yeung to take the lead, eliminating the Canadian in the process after he turned an ace.

Once in the lead, it seemed to be an impossible task for anyone to penetrate his stack as he steamrolled over the final table, eliminating all but two players en route to his victory. Yen-Liang Yao was the runner-up and took down a few doubles during heads-up play before falling to the wayside, sending Sotiropoulos his second career bracelet.

"Go Stage" Action

A total of 6,368 entry slips were sold for this event throughout the 10 Flip & Go stages, which created a $1,209,920 prize pool, and of those just 326 found themselves taking a seat in the "Go Stage" portion of this event. All runners who made it to this Stage were guaranteed at least a min-cash of $1,236 with the eventual winner taking home the $117,022 first-place prize money along with a prestigious bracelet.

The field dropped instantly down to the final nine with the structure that was in place and it was French pro Erwann Pecheux leading the way after a few monster hands leading up to the final nine. Wing Tat Yeung was the first to be voted off the island when his kings lost to the ace-jack of Sotiropoulos, starting his reign of terror.

Markus Prinz and Quentin Roussey also both took an exit by the hand of Sotiropoulos shortly after. Just six were left and Chris Moorman decided to break the chain, dropping a couple of players himself when he took out Pecheux and Wiktor Malinowski in the same hand with big slick.

Moorman, unfortunately, had his momentum quickly deplete during four-handed play and found himself headed to the payout desk when his king-queen fell to a straight by Sotiropoulos. Michiel "Easterdamnz" Van Elsacker put his short stack in with ace-ten but could not fend off the pure-running Greek pro who made it heads-up with his queen-jack, landing two pair.

The only real hurdle that the champ felt throughout the final table happened when Yao won two doubles to kickoff the heads-up portion of this event. Yao went for a third double with king-ten versus the ace-six of Sotiropoulos and it looked like a new chip leader was afoot after the king-high flop. But an ace on the turn shifted the lead back to Sotiropoulos and a bricked river sealed the deal, eliminating Yao in second place for a respectable $90,371.

That wraps it up for the PokerNews live coverage of this event but tune in now for coverage of Event #7: $1,500 Millionaire Maker.

Yen-Liang Yao Eliminated in 2nd Place ($90,371)

Blinds: 80,000/160,000

Yen-Liang Yao moved all in for a total of 2,296,888 and Georgios Sotiropoulos called in what was the last hand of the event.

Yen-Liang Yao: {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

Sotiropoulos was in the lead but a {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop hit Yao with a cowboy and if he held on, he would overtake the chip lead.

Instantly all momentum was flushed when the {a-Spades} turn slammed down, giving the pure-running Sotiropoulos a pair of bullets and the {7-Clubs} river changed not a thing. Yao was eliminated in second place for a respectable $90,371.

Congratulations to Georgios Sotiropoulos on taking down Event #6: $200 FLIP & GO for a hearty $117,022, along with a shiny new WSOP bracelet.

A recap will be posted shortly.

Michiel "Easterdamnz" Van Elsacker Eliminated in 3rd Place ($69,791)

Blinds: 80,000/160,000

Georgios Sotiropoulos stuck to the game plan and shoved from the small blind. Michiel "Easterdamnz" Van Elsacker called his stack of around 580,000 in the big blind and was at risk.

Michiel "Easterdamnz" Van Elsacker: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

A {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop hit down on the virtual felt, hitting both with a pair but Sotiropoulos had the better of it with his jacks.

The {9-Spades} turn card left Van Elsacker needed some love but the {q-Clubs} river declined his proposal and he was eliminated in third, falling victim to Sotiropoulos.

Chris Moorman Eliminated in 4th Place ($53,898)

Blinds: 70,000/140,000

The action fell on Georgios Sotiropoulos who shoved the small blind and Chris Moorman called for less, putting in around 1,450,000 from the big blind and was at risk.

Chris Moorman: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The paint cards of Moorman were leading after the {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop but Sotiropoulos found some draws.

An {8-Hearts} turn card gave Sotiropoulos the lead with his pair of snowmen and the {q-Diamonds} river sealed the deal for him as he landed a straight to send Moorman to the payout desk.

Wiktor Malinowski Eliminated in 5th Place ($41,624); Erwann Pecheux Eliminated in 6th Place ($32,145)

Blinds: 70,000/140,000

Wiktor Malinowski opened to 490,000 from middle position, Erwann Pecheux called his 166,269 stack into the middle and Chris Moorman shoved 816,256 over the top. Malinowski put the 260,780 that he had behind into the middle and all three turned over their hands.

Erwann Pecheux: {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Wiktor Malinowski: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Chris Moorman: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The flop rolled out {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, hitting both Malinowski and Moorman with a pair of aces but Moorman's kicker was leading. A {q-Spades} turn left Moorman in a prime spot to drop two and the {j-Diamonds} rive completed it, sending both out the door as Moorman scooped with his big slick.

Blinds: 70,000/140,000

Quentin Roussey shoved 477,614, Georgios Sotiropoulos called from the big blind and the two turned over their hands.

Quentin Roussey: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The flop quickly fell {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}, hitting Sotiropoulos with a bullet and Roussey was in trouble. The {3-Hearts} turn left the shorty in need of a jack but the {a-Diamonds} river was not it and was eliminated by the red-hot Sotiropoulos.

Markus Prinz Eliminated in 8th Place ($19,171)

Blinds: 50,000/100,000

Markus Prinz saw action fold to him in the small blind, he elected to shove for a total of 259,080 and Georgios Sotiropoulos called from the big blind, putting the early in the day leader at risk.

Markus Prinz: {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

A {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{q-Hearts} flop fell on the virtual felt, hitting Sotiropoulos with a cowboy and Prinz needed a tenner.

The {4-Diamonds} turn left Prinz with one last chance for romance but the {8-Hearts} river was of no help and he was eliminated by Sotiropoulos.

Blinds: 50,000/100,000

Georgios Sotiropoulos jammed 1,407,262 in the middle position and Wing Tat Yeung called for less, putting in 773,564. Everyone else folded and the Canadian was at risk.

Wing Tat Yeung: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Georgios Sotiropoulos: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Cowboys were in the lead and the {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop left it that way. Unfortunately for Yeung, the {a-Clubs} turn card landed to Give Sotiropoulos his bullet and the lead.

The board completed with a {2-Spades} river card and Sotiropoulos cracked the kings to eliminate Yeung.
