The tournament attracted a field of 720 players, generating a prize pool of $1,922,400. Plenty of notables took to the felt when play began at 11 a.m. PST. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (335,000), Christian Harder (293,000), and Darren Elias (205,000) will all return to play tomorrow. Psychologist turned poker aficionado Maria Konnikova doubled up with quad nines towards the end of the day and finished with 408,000. A full list of chip counts and seating assignments will be released shortly.

Not everyone was fortunate to make the money. David Peters, Stephen Chidwick, Shaun Deeb, Daniel Negreanu, and Erik Seidel all entered the field but busted before the end of the day.

The 108 players who will contend for the coveted WSOP bracelet return on Thursday at noon PST in the Amazon Room. The schedule calls for ten 60-minute levels.

The PokerNews team will be back tomorrow to bring you all the action and live updates as they make their way towards the final table.

Silvio Costa Bubbles Event 13

Niveau 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Silvio Costa
Silvio Costa

On the money bubble, there was about 150,000 in the pot and a flop of {j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Spades}. The short-stacked Silvio Costa checked and then called off his last 15,000 after Michael Gathy bet.

Silvio Costa: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Michael Gathy: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Silvio needed an ace or a queen to win the pot but couldn't catch up with the turn being the {3-Diamonds} and river the {2-Diamonds}, bursting the bubble to pop and locking up a $4,840 min-cash for the remaining players.

Play has halted for the night, stay tuned for chip counts and a recap of today's action.

Harder Dents Grospellier to Extend Chip Lead

Niveau 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Christian Harder
Christian Harder

Christian Harder was already contending for the tournament chip lead before winning a massive pot off Bertrand Grospellier.

There was more than 100,000 in the middle when Grospellier bet 55,000 on the {4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts} board. Harder called, and the {9-Clubs} fell on the river.

Both players checked, and Grospellier turned over {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a busted flush draw. Harder had {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, and won the pot with a pair of jacks. Harder climbed to 670,000 chips, while Grospellier sits with 300,000.
