Welcome to Day 1 of Event #16: $10,000 Limit Hold'em

The first day of Event #16: $10,000 Limit Hold'em is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m local time.

This is a three-day event. Day 1 will start off with 60,000 in tournament chips and play 10 levels at 60 minutes each with a 15-minute break every 2 levels. There is no dinner break scheduled for Day 1 and late registration ends at the start of Day 2. The blinds will start at 300-500 with limits of 500-1,000.

In 2019 reigning champion Juha Helppi defeated a field of 118 players and won $306,622 and the coveted gold bracelet. A few other notable players who played at this event in 2019 were Eli Elezra, Tong G, Josh Arieh, Dan Shak, and Shaun Deeb.

Like all other $10,000 championship events at the WSOP you can expect to see some of the world's best players battling it out for piles of cash and the coveted gold bracelet.

Julien Martini raised it up from under the gun and picked up three callers along the way. The flop came {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and the big blind checked to Martini who continued with a bet. Only the button called and the other two players folded.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and Martini fired out a bet again. His opponent raised this time and Martini called to see the {j-Clubs} on the river. Martini check-called a bet from his opponent who showed {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for two pair. Martini sent his cards to the muck and his opponent collected the pot.

Jason Papastavrou opened with a raise from under the gun and the player on his left called. Nate Silver was in the big blind and stuck in a three-bet only to have Papastavrou four-bet. Both players called and they went three ways to a flop of {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

Silver checked to Papastavrou who threw in a bet and only Silver called. The turn was the {a-Spades} and Silver checked again. Papastavrou bet again and Silver folded this time. Papastavrou showed {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} for quad aces in the opening level of the tournament.

Daniel Negreanu bet 1,000 in the big blind and Wasaya called. The turn was {10-Diamonds}.

Negreanu bets another 1,000 and Wasaya called. The river came {q-Clubs}.

It checked to Wasaya who bet 1,000 and Negreanu folded. Waysaya showed {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the rivered straight.

Negreanu Deals a "Bad Beat"

Daniel Negreanu gave one of his opponents an early notice that he was going to give him a bad beat and it came quicker than they thought. After facing a raise, Negreanu stuck in a three-bet and his opponent called.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and the action was checked to Negreanu who threw in a bet. His opponent check-raised and Negreanu re-raised which his opponent called.

Negreanu continued to bet the {2-Diamonds} on the turn and the {10-Spades} on the river which got called both times. "Straight," Negreanu announced showing {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. "Here's your bad beat."

"I'm so happy now," his opponent replied as the rest of the table chuckled.
