Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

After two days of action in Event #80: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, only 24 players remain from a starting field 496. Among them is four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow (665,000). Matusow grinded the short stack for much of Day 2 before building a stack late into the night. When play resumes, he will start with 35 big blinds.

He will face off against several other notables from the poker community, including Chino Rheem (1,000,000), Uri Reichenstein (900,000), David Coleman (1,250,000), and Dylan Weisman (1,475,000), who won his first World Series Of Poker bracelet last month in PLO.

Bagging the chip lead into Day 3 is Robert Cowen (2,800,000). Cowen is seeking his first bracelet and finished 13th in a PLO event last month. He will be looking to improve on that performance as he takes 140 big blinds into the day.

A couple of hands later, Chino Rheem was also vanquished by Cowen as he headed to the payout desk.

Robert Cowen raised to 50,000 and Mike Matusow came along in the big blind.

The flop was {8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Matusow check-called a bet of 40,000.

Both players checked the {q-Diamonds} turn to the {q-Spades} river and Matusow led for 55,000. Cowen raised to 135,000 and Matusow called. Cowen tossed his hand in the muck face down and Matusow tabled {8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{x-}{x-} for a full house.

"I couldn't respect myself if I folded," said Cowen.

"At least you know you're giving chips to a nice guy," said Matusow.

The flop read {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. Tony Hartmann got all of his chips in with the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} set of jacks over the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} set from Kamel Mokry.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and the river came the {8-Spades} to make quads for Mokry much to the dismay of Hartmann and of Mike Matusow who was sweating from the next table.

"That's sick! That's so ****ing sick man. " said Matusow as Hartmann had no choice but to get up and leave, busted from the tournament.

Action was picked up on the flop as it read {6-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{k-Spades}. Steven Forman found himself all in after a series of raises. He had a set of jacks and a flush draw with the {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}. He was behind the set of kings of Raphael Schreiner who had the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and the river came the {q-Diamonds} to miss the flush draw and keep the set of kings as the best hand and just like that Forman was eliminated.

Robert Cowen raised to 60,000 and Mike Matusow bet the pot to 225,000. Cowen called and they saw a flop of {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. Matusow shoved and Cowen let it go.

On the next hand Matusow limped in for 30,000, Robert Emmerson came along from the small blind and Cowen checked.

The flop was {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and the action checked to Matusow who bet 80,000. Both players folded and Matusow took it down.

"Be careful it's the middle of my sunrise," said Matusow as he showed a six for trips.

After that Emmerson raised the button and Matusow called.

"What's he doing raising in the middle of my sunrise," asked Matusow?

The flop was {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and both players checked to the {4-Diamonds}. Matusow won it with a bet, dragged another pot, and showed the table a straight.

"I feel like part of the group now," said Matusow.

Dylan Weisman three-bet to 190,000 from the cutoff. Naor Slobodskoy moved all in from the big blind and the initial raiser from under the gun, David Coleman called for his remaining stack, Weisman called to put both at risk.

David Coleman: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Naor Slobodskoy: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Dylan Weisman: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Coleman had the smallest stack of the three all in players and was looking for a jack, while Weisman had the large stack and had the chance to score the double knockout.

The flop came {q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} to pair Slobodskoy's four and Weisman's queen to give each a chance to scoop the whole pot, the turn was the {5-Clubs} to not change much, but the river came the {9-Clubs} to give Weisman two-pair and crack the aces of both of his opponents and suddenly bring the tournament down to eight.

Each player checked the flop {q-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Spades} to see the turn {6-Diamonds}. Matusow checked, Reichenstein bet 140,000 and Schreiner called. Matusow then raised to pot which was 665,000 and both players folded.

Matusow tabled a couple of his hole cards, {6-}{6-} for a set.

"I warned em my sun run was coming," said Matusow. "I've been waiting seven weeks."

A few hands later, Matusow raised to 85,000 and only Schreiner called.

Schreiner check-folded to bet of 120,000 on the {q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} flop and Matusow dragged another pot.
