Stepuchin's Squawks Heard Across the Amazon

Niveau 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Frank Stepuchin
Frank Stepuchin

All eyes were on the Amazon Purple section around 9:55 p.m. Pacific Time as Frank Stepuchin let out a series guttural squawks that "sounded like a platypus mating call," as one table mate put it.

Stepuchin appeared to do so spontaneously and not because of the outcome of any particular hand. The racket caught the attention of cameramen and floor personnel, one of whom asked Stepuchin what he was drinking and admonished him to "tone it down."

"Next outburst like that, I'm going to come eat that chicken wing," the floor man said, referring to Stepuchin's trademark plastic chicken wing.

After the outburst, Stepuchin noted to PokerNews that the platypus is one of only two egg-laying mammals.

Gordon Spins It Up

Niveau 5 : 300/600, 600 ante

Francis Gordon was down to 6,000 chips at one point in the tournament, but in the past six hours, has built up quite an impressive chip stack.

The most recent of pots to go his way was picked up on a river with a board reading {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} and he was facing an all-in bet on the river. He thought about it for a bit before he decided to call. The opponent mucked his hand and Gordon turned over {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for second pair as he built his chips up to over 100,000.

The big blind makes the call to the river of {8-Spades} and again the big blind checked. Stepuchin bet 16,000 and told his opponent "throw the chips over here if you're going to call because this is where they're going to stay."

His opponent flicked them across the table towards Stepuchin and the dealer sorted them out to confirm he called. Stepuchin showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} for pocket aces and his opponent mucked his hand.

The flop read {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Alex Wong bet 4,000 from late position against two opponents, Nick Schulman raised to 10,000 from the small blind and the third player folded. Wong called.

The turn was the {4-Clubs}. Schulman led jammed his remaining amount of about 28,000 and Wong snap-called.

Schulman tabled the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} but Wong said "I have kings" and showed the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} to get Schulman to rise from the table.

The river came the {q-Spades} and Schulman briskly walked away as his main event was over just like that.
