A Sea of Bracelet Winners Return for Day 2 of Event #20: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

Justin Geary
Justin Geary

After 15 levels of play yesterday, 116 players will return from the field of 350 entries for Day 2 of Event #20: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw. However, last year’s winner David “Bakes” Baker will not be one of them as he was eliminated on the back end of Day 1. Action will pick up again at 2:00 p.m. local time in Bally’s where the levels will extend to 60 minutes as players will play 10 levels on Day 2, beginning with Level 16 and limits of 4,000/8,000.

Many notables remain including Justin Geary as the chip leader as he bagged 259,500 to end Day 1. Other notables who survived Day 1 include four-time bracelet winners Adam Friedman (130,500), Kevin Gerhart (178,500) and Benny Glaser (108,500); poker veteran Allen Kessler (97,500) and last year's runner up Peter Lynn (70,500).

PokerNews will be here for all the action as they play down to a winner on Day 3.

Aldridge Busts to Setup Hand for Hand Play

Niveau 18 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Ken Aldridge
Ken Aldridge

With just 55 players left and only 53 spots getting paid, action folded to Scott Hirsch in the cutoff who raised, leaving himself just over 3,000 behind. Ken Aldridge moved all in from the button and Ryan Leng raised enough out of the big blind to force Hirsch to call off for his tournament life.

All three players took one card on the initial draw. On the second draw, Leng stood pat while his two opponents drew another card. That pattern was repeated on the final draw and Leng showed down {9-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-}. Aldridge made an eight-seven with {8-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and Hirsch, prior to peeling his last card, showed {6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Hirsch would need to catch a seven or an eight to survive and did just that, rolling over {7-} to send Aldridge to the rail in cruel fashion just two spots off the money.

Friedman Soaring

Niveau 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

Action folded to Adam Friedman on the button, who raised. Denis Nesterenko three-bet out of the small and the big blind folded to send the action back to Friedman, who called.

Nesterenko drew one on the initial draw to Friedman's two. He followed up that draw with a bet, which was called by Friedman.

On the second draw Nesterenko took one for a second time and Friedman again drew two. Nesterenko led into Friedman, who responded with a raise. It was not enough to shed Nesterenko, however, who flatted.

The third and final draw saw both players stand pat. Action went check-check and Friedman showed {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{2-} to take down the pot and move up over 600,000.

At another table former WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehen was seen headed to the payout desk.

Gerhart Headed Home

Kevin Gerhart had just 22,000 coming back from dinner and immediately got it all in the middle from the big blind against Ian Chan from the small blind.

On the final draw Ian Chan had {9-}{8-}{5-}{4-}{2-} showing to Gerhart's {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}. Peeling the final card, Gerhart would need to catch a two or a three but instead hit a {7-} to send him straight to the cashier's cage.

Action folded to Yufei Zhong in the small blind who raised enough to force Adam Friedman in the big blind all in. Friedman made the call for his tournament life.

On the first draw both players took two cards. The second draw was no different, though Friedman did expose a discarded ace. During the final draw Zhong took one and showed {j-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-}. Friedman discarded one card and revealed he held {8-}{7-}{5-}{4-}. Drawing very much live, Friedman peeled the last card. It was a {6-}, giving Friedman an unwanted straight and sending him to the payout desk in 16th.

Action folded around to Richard Bai in the small blind who moved all in for his last 35,000. Georgios Sotiropoulos made the call out of the big blind to put Bai at risk.

Bai took two cards on the first draw to Sotiropoulos' one. On the second draw, Bai again drew two cards, and Sotiropoulos took just one. The final draw saw Bai once more draw two cards while Sotiropoulos stood pat.

Sotiropoulos showed {9-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Bai turned over {8-}{4-}{2-}, leaving him drawing thin but live. However, his hopes were dashed when he turned over {a-} and did not bother peeling the meaningless fifth card and instead made a hasty exit.

Phillip Hui Eliminated in 12th Place ($5,054)

Niveau 25 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante
Phil Hui
Phil Hui

Yufei Zhong opened from the cutoff and was met by a three-bet from Christopher Heafner out of the small blind. Phillip Hui called in the big blind as did Zhong.

On the first draw Heafner took two, Hui stood pat and Zhong drew three. Heafner then checked to Hui, who moved all in. Zhong made the call to officially put Hui at risk and Heafner followed suit.

Heafner drew another two on the second draw, Hui stood pat again and Zhong took two. Heafner then check-raised a bet from Zhong, who in turn responded with a re-raise. Far from dissuading Heafner, he actually came back over the top of Zhong's raise. Zhong ended the button clicking at that point by just calling.

The final draw saw Heafner stand pat, Hui drew one, and Zhong decline the option to take more cards. Heafner and Zhong both showed {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} while Hui, up against the second nuts, was somehow still drawing live holding {7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. He could not find the necessary five, however, instead turning over {6-}, sending him home in 12th Place, good for $5,054.
