Welcome to Day 2 of Event #34: $1,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas. Yesterday was an action-packed day that saw a field of 1,772 begin the tournament and of those, 158 players will be returning at 12:00 p.m. local time for Day 2.

Play will resume with Level 18 and blinds at 5,000/10,000 with 10,000 big blind ante. Levels will be 60-minutes long, with breaks after every two and a dinner break happening after Level 23 (approximately 6:30 p.m.).

The prize pool grew to $2,365,620 with 266 places getting paid. The remaining 158 contenders are all in the money, guaranteed a slice of the very large pie, and will battle it out over the next two days for the first place prize of $364,899 and a coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

At the end of Day 1, the chip leader was Croatia’s Gregor Sverko, who bagged the only stack over one million with 1,046,000. Sverko has multiple cashes under his belt including his most recent ones from this WSOP in the MONSTER STACK No-Limit Hold’em ($2,625) and The Housewarming No-LImit Hold’em ($1,840.) He has yet to win a bracelet but with his strong start on Day 1, this event might be the one.

There are many notable players still in the field and with 10 levels to play through today, it is still anyone's game. Some of the ones to watch are Athanasios Polychronopoulos, who won this event in both 2011 and 2013 (588,000), and the next closest chip stacks to Sverko, Keith Kordowski (812,000), Raffaele Sorrentino (788,000), Jason Hickey (752,000), and Michel Leibgorin (679,000).

Stay tuned in to PokerNews starting at noon and for the rest of the day to catch all of the highlights from this exciting event.

Shao Scores Important Early Double-Up

Niveau 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

From early position, Carlos Chang bet 100,000 from his stack of 118,000 chips. In the cutoff, Chien Teng Shao went all in for his remaining 111,000.

After waiting about two minutes for a potential pay jump, Chang called.

Chien Teng Shao: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Carlos Chang: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

The flop came {3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, with the {6-Spades} turn giving Chang an open-ended straight draw.

However, the {2-Diamonds} river gave Shao a full double-up and left Chang with just 7,000 behind.

Jacks Get Cracked

Niveau 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Daniel Martin was in middle position facing an all in from Christoph Cannuli in the small blind for 140,000. Martin called and cards were on their backs.

Christoph Cannuli: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Daniel Martin: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came down {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades} to give Cannuli trips and the {a-Clubs} on the turn only bettered his hand, giving him a boat. The river came a {7-Clubs} and Cannuli took down the pot for a double up to stay in the tournament.

Double Up for Christensen

Niveau 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Brandon Christensen: {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Tony Nguyen: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} giving no help to Ngyuen's pocket nines while going runner-runner flush for Christensen to get the double up.

Sorrentino Busts Snow, Over 900,000 in Chips

Niveau 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Raffaele Sorrentino opened to 20,000 from early position and was called by Ronnie Bardah on the button. Alan Snow, from the small blind, went all in for his last 91,000. Sorrentino went all in over the top and Bardah folded, showing {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

Alan Snow: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Raffaele Sorrentino: {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Sorrentino struck gold on the {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs} board and had Snow nearly drawing dead, especially considering Bardah's previous holdings.

The {9-Hearts} clinched the pot for Sorrentino and the {3-Hearts} completed the board.

With the win, Sorrentino is now over the 900,000-chip mark.
