Player Of The Year Contender In The Field

Niveau 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Daniel Weinman
Daniel Weinman

Dan Weinman has graced the Salute to Warriors event with his presence.

Weinman was just in a pot three ways to a flop, where he bet from under the gun after the big blind checked to him. His sizing was 2,500 and one player folded before the big blind called on a {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} board.

To a turn of {8-Hearts}, after the big blind checked once again, Weinman fired 8,000 which got a fold from his opponent.

Weinman is in the hunt for Player Of the Year after cashing a whopping 12 events so far this series. With a 2nd place in Event #9, followed by his first bracelet in Event #30.

Weinman, with a new haircut, is second on the POY leaderboard behind Dan Zack.

Dj MacKinnon
Dj MacKinnon

After the hijack opened for 2,500 chips, DJ MacKinnon made the call to go heads-up to a flop, once the blinds got out of the way.

{4-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} ran out and his opponent checked to MacKinnon who took over the aggression and bet 3,000. His opponent quickly mucked as MacKinnon is quietly chipping in an upwards trajectory.

Shaun Colquhoun, One Veteran's Story

Niveau 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Shaun Colquhoun
Shaun Colquhoun

Shaun Colquhoun, who has been covered in this event today after rising to the top of the chip counts early, is here representing Warriors Poker.

Colquhoun, who had a 4th place finish in Event #1 at this years WSOP, is an U.S Army Infantry veteran, who was medically discharged. Serving 6 years from '07-'13, with part in Afghanistan, Colquhoun has lived in Las Vegas for the last 8 years, playing cash games across Vegas casinos for the last 6.

He also is a celebrity host for cash games across the city, working with Phil Ivey, for example.

According to Colquhoun, Warriors Poker is a fantastic organisation that helps fund Veterans with buy-ins, so they can play poker tournaments. Colquhoun has spoken of how calming poker can be, helping those with post-traumatic stress to find focus and community.

A charming guy, Colquhoun is focused on trying to win a bracelet, after just missing out at the start of the WSOP summer, with this event his target.

There will be plenty of other stories from this event over the next two or three days, keep it here with PokerNews, where we'll try to bring you more stories like Shaun's as the event progresses.

Andion In Massive Pot On The River

Niveau 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Alejandro Andion
Alejandro Andion

Alejandro Andion was heads-up against the cutoff on a {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, the pot already at 70,000.

According to another player at the table, who helpfully filled PokerNews in on the action, apparently after a pre-flop limp from early position, Andion's opponent had bet and Andion three-bet the button. After getting called he continued, was called, then continued again on the turn when checked to. The opponent called again.

This time, on the river his opponent lead into him for 31,000 chips only to have Andion move all in for 99,500 total. The opponent had Andion covered by a few thousand, and after thinking for a couple of minutes if not more, the opponent perhaps begrudgingly let his hand go.
