Deeb On Top as Greenstein and Enright Remain Heading Into Day 2 of Hall of Fame Bounty

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

Day 2 of Event #79: $1,979 Poker Hall Of Fame Bounty No-Limit Hold’em gets underway at 2 p.m. local time with 139 players returning, out of an original field of 865, to battle for a share of the $1,495,363 prize pool and the $276,067 first place prize.

The top 130 players get paid, so the first drama of the day will be the early money bubble hit.

Leading the field is a very familiar name in Shaun Deeb, who has a heaping stack of 574,000, which is good for just under 100 big blinds. Deeb already has a poker hall-of-fame-worthy resume and is appropriately primed to make a run in this event that highlights hall of famers.

After Deeb, the top five counts are made up of Marsel Backa (510,000), Kfir Litman (503,000), Shane Rose (483,000) and Michael Brown (467,000).

There are two hall of famers left who still have large bounties on their heads, which will be heavily coveted by the remaining field. 2011 inductee Barry Greenstein is still alive with 337,000 and 2007 inductee Barbara Enright has 224,000 in chips. The players who eliminate them will receive a bounty amount equal to the year each was inducted.

Several other well-known players are among the final 139 as well including; Daniel Weinman (370,000), who is trying to add another deep run to his WSOP player of the year chase, Brian Green (332,000), and defending champion Ole Schemion (246,000), who is looking to do the improbable back-to-back run.

The plan is to play down to a bracelet winner today. Play begins at 2 p.m. local time. There will be 15-minute breaks every two 60-minute levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 24 (~8:30).

PokerNews will take you through to the end in this event as action will be rapid throughout the day.

Greenstein Busts the Bubble

Jacques Dermegreditchian three-bet to 30,000 over a 13,000 early position raise from Barry Greenstein who called.

The flop came {6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Greenstein checked, Dermegreditchian moved all in and Greenstein snap-called. They waited to table their hands as the rest of the tables had to complete play.

Greenstein tabled the flopped boat with the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} while Dermegreditchian had the cracked {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} to actually give the Frenchman a few more outs but the river was the {9-Spades} and the bubble was burst.

The flop read {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Blair Eastwood jammed from the big blind and Ole Schemion quickly called from the cutoff.

Eastwood had the lead with the {j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} while Schemion was drawing with the {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The turn was a blank {4-Spades} but the river hit Schemion as the {q-Clubs} came off and his bid to go back to back in this event stayed alive.

Yueqi Zhu

Action was joined on the turn as it read {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{q-Spades}. From early position Yueqi Zhu bet 45,000. Perry Friedman made a small raise to 110,000 from the hijack. Zhu slid some chips forward to what looked like a three-bet to around 170,000 and Friedman four-bet all in which Zhu quickly called.

It was a set over set situation as Friedman had the {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} but was in dire straights against the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} of Zhu. The river was the {7-Hearts} and Friedman was eliminated.

Brown Takes it Down

Niveau 20 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Camille Brown
Camille Brown

On a heads up flop of {3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, Camille Brown in the big blind checked to her early position opponent, Eyal Eskar, who then bet 25,000.

Brown called and the two players saw the turn {9-Hearts} and action checked through.

On the {3-Diamonds} river, Brown then led out for a pot-sized bet of 70,000 and Eskar went deep into the tank.

After a good while, another player called the clock on Eskar and he was given a 30-second countdown. Eskar still had not made an action as the clock reached zero and his cards were announced dead.

"What were you leaning towards before the clock?" Brown asked him.

"Call," replied Eskar and Brown did not seem amused by another player calling the clock on her opponent.

"I was hoping you would just put the money in, I had it," Brown continued as she stacked her new chips.

Deeb Makes Hero Call With Deuces

Shaun Deeb

Action was joined on the river as the board read {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. The pot had about 215,000 in the middle and Matias Gabrenja was first to act from the big blind and was deep in the tank. Eventually clock was called on him and as the floor started to count down, he announced a bet to 180,000.

Shaun Deeb was in early position and thought for about ten seconds before making the fairly quick call.

Gabrenja showed the {j-Spades}{7-Spades} for missed draws and Deeb tabled the {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} for the winning pair of ducks to surge his stack higher up.

Daniel Weinman

Recent first-time bracelet winner Daniel Weinman opened to 40,000 under-the-gun and action folded around to Pavel Spirins in the small blind who defended.

The flop was {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Spirins checked to Weinman, who continued for 30,000 and Spirins called.

On the turn {7-Hearts} the action went check-check.

But on the {8-Diamonds} river, Spirins led out for 70,000 and Weinman snap-called. Spirins tabled {2-}{2-} for a low two pair and Weinman showed {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a better two pair. Weinman was awarded the pot and also gifted two sushi rolls for his good play by Shaun Deeb.
