Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Day 1 of Event #77: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha was an exciting one. With 1,234 total entries, the field generated a prize pool of $1,647,390. By the end of the day, only 151 of them survived to continue their quest for the top cash of $277,949 and the illustrious WSOP Gold Bracelet.

Several familiar faces will be returning to play today. Six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu doubled twice on the precipice of the money in order to bag a healthy stack (325,000). He will start his day sitting right next to two-time bracelet winner Barny Boatman (86,000). Other notables to bag included Anson Tsang (209,000), Scott Davies (207,000), and Mike Watson (144,000).

But it was two-time bracelet winner Connor Drinan who outpaced them all, bagging 1,200,000. Canadian Vincent Lam will be the only other player starting the day with over 1,000,000 in chips, after he made a hero call on the final hand of the night for a million chip pot.

Play today will resume at 1 p.m. local time in Bally's Convention Center. They will begin at Level 16, where blinds are 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 big blind ante. Levels today will last for 60 minutes each with 15-minute breaks slated to follow every second level. There will be a 60-minute dinner break following Level 21, expected to be around 7:30 p.m. local time. Play will continue until only five players remain, at which point those five will bag and tag their chips before returning to play on Wednesday, July 13th where a winner will be crowned.

Action was joined after four players had gotten it all in preflop: David Wang with the short stack, then Dan Shak, then Khorchidian Nichan, and Raymond Henson, who had all of them covered.
