Day 1 of Event #83 $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em at the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas came to a close after eight hours and a dozen levels of play. As expected, the event drew some of poker’s biggest names with a total of 97 entries being whittled down to 32 by the day’s close.

Dan Colpoys led the 32 survivors sitting on a stack of 2,835,000, good for 95 big blinds when play resumes. He chipped up consistently throughout the day and received a late boost to his stack after eliminating Erik Seidel. Hot on his heels is German pro Fedor Holz who felted several players en route to bagging 2,530,000. Gold bracelet winner and high-stakes regular Stephen Chidwick rounds out the top three with 2,100,000

Notables to bag and tag outside of the top ten include three-time bracelet winner Justin Bonomo (810,000), Hustler Casino Live regular Wesley Fei (655,00) and popular poker coach Jonathan Little (450,000).

Several big names entered the fray but were not fortunate enough to emerge out the other side. They include 2009 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada and GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu, whose rough summer continued with little hope of redemption as the end of the series nears.

Play resumes on Friday, July 15th at 1 p.m. PDT with the remaining 32 players returning in Level 13 with blinds at 15,000/30,000 with a 30,000 big blind ante. Late registration remains open until the start of Day 2 so the field could still grow, though at this point any late entrants would start with only 10 big blinds. The plan for Day 2 is to play down to five players who will then return for the finale on Saturday, July 16th.

Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as its live reporting team continues to provide comprehensive coverage of this and every other event at the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Play Ended

The 32 remaining players have bagged up their chips for Day 2.

A recap and the full chip counts are to follow.

Kabrhel Felted on Last Hand

Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

On the very last hand of the night, Martin Kabrhel opened to 65,000 on the button, leaving himself just 5,000 behind. Yong Wang raised to 180,000 out of the small blind while the big blind folded. Kabrhel tossed in his last chip to put himself at risk.

Martin Kabrhel: {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Yong Wang: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Kabrhel was in rough shape and found no help on the {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} runout, ending his tournament at the close of Day 1.

Two More Hands

Niveau 12 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

The tournament clock has been paused and the dealers have been instructed to deal two more hands before the remaining players can bag up their chips for Day 2.

Kenney Loses All to Wang

Niveau 12 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Bryn Kenney was all-in from the middle position for his last 240,000 and Yong Wang reshoved for more from the hijack for the rest of the table to fold while Martin Kabrhel told the floor that they might need more people for their table.

Bryn Kenney: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Yong Wang: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for Wang to hold with the pocket nines to eliminate Kenney before the end of the night.

King's for Lijo

Niveau 12 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Brian Rast raised to 50,000 from the button and Lander Lijo three-bet to 170,000 from the big blind which Rast called.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}, Lijo bet 55,000 for Rast to use a time bank card before opting to raise to 155,000. Lijo called.

They both checked through the {a-Clubs} on the turn to the {9-Spades} on the river. Lijo tanked for a bit and then opted to check. Rast did the same for Lijo to show the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for the higher two pair than on the pair to claim the pot.

Felipe Ketzer

Felipe Ketzer in early position found himself all in and at risk against Henrik Hecklen from middle position.

Felipe Ketzer: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Henrik Hecklen: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Ketzer had his opponent dominated and was in a good spot to score a double late in the night. It was not be, however, as the board ran out {k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} to end Ketzer's tournament on one of the last hands of the day.
