"Short-Stack Queen" Thompson Spikes Double Up on the River

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Jolyne Thompson, the self-proclaimed "short-stack queen", open-jammed her final 24,500 from middle position and was called by the cutoff. The rest of the table folded.

Jolyne Thompson: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Cutoff: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The flop came {j-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Clubs}, giving the cutoff top set and Thompson would need either running clubs, running aces, or a queen for a straight.

Thompson would pick up a ton of outs when the {a-Clubs} came on the turn.

The {q-Spades} came on the river, leading to many oohs and ahhs on the table and even a half-hearted apology from Thompson.

Thompson is now back close to starting stack.

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Jimmy D'Ambrosio
Jimmy D'Ambrosio

Jimmy D'Ambrosio has sent another two players to the rail.

He recounted to PokerNews that he knocked out Andy Philachack with queen-jack against pocket tens preflop, in a rematch of a previous encounter.

He also knocked out another tablemate who shoved for 26,000 and D'Ambrosio called with seven-six holding a big stack. He turned two pair and sent the short stack to the rail who was holding ace-king suited.

"It's the toughest big blind in town," he said. "They are all on notice they can bust at any moment."

The TV cameras were focused on him as PN left, and he holds a big stack heading into the last level of the night.

He checked over to Antonius who bet 5,000. Ferraro raised to 18,000 and Antonius called. The turn was the {k-Spades} and Ferraro bet another 25,000, with Antonius calling to the river.

On the {q-Hearts} river, Ferraro shoved forward a stack of green 25,000 chips and Antonius quickly mucked.

Howard's Queens Get Paid

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

On the turn of {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Nick Howard bet out 18,000 into the pot of a little over 30,000 and his opponent made the call.

The {5-Clubs} landed on the river and Howard fired another bet of 42,000. His opponent took about five seconds before dropping some chips across the line to make the call.

Howard showed the {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} and that was good to take down a decent-sized pot.

Straight On the River for Koh

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

The action was picked up on a board {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades} with three players involved. Karim Rebei, in the small blind, bet 4,500 and Norbert Koh made the call in the big blind followed by the third player.

The {3-Clubs} completed the board on the river and Rebei sent 5,000. Koh made the call and the third player folded. Rebei tabled {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for trips but Koh turned over {5-Spades}{4-Spades} for a straight and scooped the pot.

Henson Chipping Back Up

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

PokerNews arrived on scene on a {8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{a-Spades} flop where Caleb Henson had put his final 43,500 chips into the middle and was called.

Caleb Henson: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Henson had flopped top two pair against his opponent's top-top. The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, giving his opponent a straight draw.

However, the river was a very safe {5-Hearts} and Henson would chip back up to about 180,000. Henson had started the level at 345,000.

Akkari Put In Tough Spot

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Andre Akkari
Andre Akkari

A player in late position opened to 3,500 and was called by the cutoff. Andre Akkari then three-bet to 14,500 out of the small blind, receiving a call from the late position player while the cutoff folded.

Akkari continued for 9,500 on the {4-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop and was called.

There was no slowing down after the {6-Clubs} turn, with Akkari firing off 18,00. Again, the late position player called.

On the {4-Hearts} river Akkari pushed one more bet into the middle, this time a much heftier 37,000. After some time, the late position player moved all in with the covering stack. Akkari thought long and hard about his decision, counting and re-counting his stack. Ultimately, he decided to let his presumably strong hand go, taking a big hit in the process.

Jacobson Gets Value from Third Pair

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

The action folded around to Martin Jacobson in the small blind who just limped in. The big blind checked his option and the flop came {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Jacobson led out with a min-bet of 1,500 and his opponent called.

The turn was the {j-Clubs} and both players checked to the {6-Hearts} on the river. Jacobson tossed in another bet of 6,000 and his opponent went into the tank for over a minute before calling. The former WSOP Main Event champion whipped over {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for a pair of sevens which was good to win the pot.

Souther Makes a "Monkey" Call

Niveau 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

On a completed board of {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, Will "Monkey" Souther was under-the-gun and faced with a bet of 37,000 from his heads up opponent in the hijack.

After a considerable amount of time deliberating, Souther threw in his chips for a call.

"I've got five high," the hijack admitted without flipping over his cards, which on that board is assumed to be {4-}{5-}.

Souther then showed his {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for one pair to take down the pot.
