Phil Galfond Offers Poker Hall of Fame Pick; Says Two Should Be Inducted Per Year

Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.

“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.

While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”

One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.

“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.

Carrillo Doubles Through Bilodeau

Denis Bilodeau in the cutoff and Craig Carrillo in the big blind exchanged raises until three bets were in before the first draw with Carillo down to his last 70,000 chips.

Both players stood pat and Carrillo moved his last bet in, with Bilodeau calling after getting a count.

The players each remained pat and the hands were revealed with Carrillo showing 7x6x4x3x2x for number 2 and the winner, while Bilodeau showed 8x5x4x3x2x for number five.

Several bets were in front of each player after seventh street with Daniel Strelitz facing a final bet from Aloisio Dourado.

After a couple of minutes of thought, Strelitz made the call to see Dourado's Broadway to win a large pot that has him near the top of the chip counts.

Deeb Draws Three, Prabu Stands Pat

Obli Prabu bet after the first draw and was called by Shaun Deeb in the big blind. Deeb then took three while Prabu took one.

"Going to be a beautiful suckout. You can't just raise my blind and think you're good," Deeb told Prabu as he check-called another bet.

Deeb took one on the third draw and Prabu again stood pat. Prabu fired out another bet and sent Deeb into the tank.

"Nine," Prabu asked.

"I would've called already with a nine," Deeb replied. Deeb eventually folded and asked Prabu what he had.

"I don't want to tell you everything. Hand No. 3," Prabu replied.

A few hands later, Prabu raised on the button in a hand of No-Limit Hold'em, then folded when Deeb three-bet.

"Bully, bully, bully," Prabu added.

Stann Floats Strelitz and Makes the Most of it

Daniel Strelitz raised on the button to 50,000 and got a call from Dave Stann in the big blind.

On the Q♣3♦6♥ flop, Stann check-called a bet of 60,000 from Strelitz to see the 4♦ come on the turn. The players checked, and then checked again on the K♠ river.

Stann showed A♥4♥ for a pair of fours, which was good, as Strelitz tossed his cards to the muck.

Dourado Shows Down an Ace

The flop came 6♠A♣7♥ and Dourado continued for 125,000. Bunch again called to see the Q♠ turn.

He checked over to Dourado, who fired out 325,000 this time. Bunch took his time before calling. The river came the 5♣ and both players checked.

Bunch turned over 9♠7♠ for a pair of sevens, but Dourado had A♥8♥ to take down the pot.

Cards were on their backs with a sizeable pot built that saw Gary Kosakowski all in on seventh street versus Nick Schulman.

According to Schulman, he raised and then four-bet on third street after Kosakowski three-bet, building a sizeable pot already.

Schulman had the lead on fourth and fifth, betting each street and getting called each time. He then check-called bets on fifth and sixth with Kosakowski then showing the better board, then calling Kosakowski's final bet on seventh street to show his nine-perfect to beat Kosakowski's nine-six.

With the elimination, the players are now one elimination away from the two-table redraw.
