Steinman Takes From Sammartino

Niveau 8 : Blinds 800/1,600, 2,400 ante

Dario Sammartino opened to 4,000 from middle position before Ian Steinman defended out of the big blind.

Steinman took two to Sammartino's one after which he checked. Sammartino led out for 5,500 and was snapped off with Steinman showing down 9x8x6x4x3x for a winner to take some chips from Sammartino's still above average stack.

Mercier Still Dragging Pots

Niveau 8 : Blinds 800/1,600, 2,400 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Brian Rast raised to 3,600 from late position and got called by Jason Mercier on the button and Cary Katz in the big blind as all three headed to the draw.

Katz took one with Rast and Mercier doing the same.

All three players checked through to showdown with Katz showing J9832. Rast quickly said, "I've got a jack-eight" only to immediately hear Mercier say, "I can beat that" before turning over 109643 to win the pot.

Mercier is literally only a few hours removed from winning his sixth bracelet in the $1,500 buy-in of this exact game variant and won this very event in 2016, so it's safe to say that he is well-equipped and prepared to make a deep run here.

All four players took one card after which action checked around. Pupillo showed down 9x7x6x3x2x, good enough to finish ahead of his opponents and scoop the pot.

Turner Pips Anderson For a Double

Niveau 7 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,800 ante

Picking up the action on the draw, Calvin Anderson in the big blind had Jon Turner on the button all in and at risk.

Anderson stood pat, sending Turner deep into the tank. After quite some time, he decided not to draw, showing down 10x8x7x5x2x. That turned out to be an excellent decision as Anderson held 10x8x7x5x4x to come up just short of Turner's holding and hand one of the best mixed game players not to have won a WSOP gold bracelet a full double.

Seidel Gets Aggressive

Niveau 7 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,800 ante

Jon Turner opened to 3,200 from middle position and was called by Erik Seidel in the small blind.

Both players took one card after which Seidel checked to Turner. He bet 5,000, but was met by a check-raise to 20,000 from Seidel. Unable to withstand that kind of aggression, Turner mucked to leave himself relatively short.

Kornuth Catches Aldemir

Niveau 7 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,800 ante

Koray Aldemir limped the small blind and Chance Kornuth raised to 4,800 in the big blind. Aldemir thought briefly before tossing in a call to head to the draw round.

Aldemir took two before Kornuth decided to stand pat.

Aldemir entered a short tank and after about a minute of thought, he put together some chips and bet out 11,600.

Kornuth wasn't quick to call, but also didn't waste much time before tossing in a calling chip.

Aldemir lifted up his cards and fanned them out without tabling them which prompted Kornuth to confidently turn over J10752.

Aldemir folded and Kornuth collected the pot.

Deeb Doubles Through Bohlman

Niveau 7 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,800 ante

A player opened to 3,500 from early position only to see Scott Bohlman three-bet to 11,000 on the button. Shaun Deeb then moved all in for around 27,000 out of the big blind, getting a fold from the original raiser but a call from Bohlman.

Deeb stood pat, sending Bohlman deep into the tank as he pondered whether to break his hand holding 10x7x5x3x2x . Ultimately he decided to take one but was shown the bad news after Deeb tabled 10x9x6x4x3x. Despite incorrectly discarding, Bohlman was still drawing very live but could only peel the Kx to hand Deeb a full double.
