Quan Zhou

On a board of A88QQ, Quan Zhou moved all in on the river for 143,000 from the small blind.

Andjelko Andrejevic quickly tossed in a single chip for the call but tossed his cards into the muck when Zhou revealed the J1088 for flopped quad eights.

Park Holds On to Double Off Morris

Niveau 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
James Park
James Park

James Park and Arthur Morris built a pot of around 165,000 heading to the 1097 flop when Park, in the big blind, attempted to move all in for around 190,000 but was forced to keep 30,000 behind.

Morris tanked for a moment before shoving all in and Park called for his remaining chips.

Park had QJ109 for two pair, while Morris showed KQXxXx for a straight draw. The board ran out 38 and Park finished with a straight to double up and leave Morris on a short stack.

Urgently Needed Double for Weisman

Niveau 4 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Dylan Weisman
Dylan Weisman

Four ways to the KJ3 flop with 7,000 each invested, Ren Lin continued for 13,000 from under the gun. Jan-Peter Jachtmann called while Eelis Pärssinen and Karel Mokry folded. The 8 turn was checked and Lin also checked the 2 on the river. Jachtmann bet 15,000 and Lin folded, claiming to make a "tight fold" while exposing the 82.

"Two pair? You win," Jachtmann exclaimed and showed AQx105 for a bluff.

One hand later, Dylan Weisman raised to 7,000 and Andrew Ige called, as did Lin in the big blind. The A92 flop was checked to Weisman and he bet the pot for 24,000 with 7,500 behind. Ige folded and Lin called, exclaiming his opponent was drawing dead.

Lin bet big on the 9 turn, joking a "good game" and Weisman called all-in.

Dylan Weisman: AKJ7
Ren Lin: 8752

The river was the 4 and Weisman doubled.

Sinishtaj Doubles Through Van Der Spuy

Niveau 3 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

In multiway action to the K52 flop with around 50,000 in the middle, Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy bet 33,000. Gjergj Sinishtaj then raised the pot and it folded back to the South African who announced all-in. Sinishtaj called and the cards were flipped over as Van Der Spuy jumped out of his chair, barely able to watch.

Gjergj Sinishtaj: KKQ9
Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy: AA93

Van Der Spuy had aces with the nut flush draw but Sinishtaj was ahead with his top set. The 6 turn and 7 river ensured a big double for Sinishtaj worth 281,500.

Emmerson and Morris On the Rise

Niveau 3 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Arthur Morris
Arthur Morris

In three-way action to the K93 flop, Krasimir Yankov in the big blind and Arthur Morris from under the gun checked. Robert Emmerson bet 10,000 on the button and Yankov was the only caller. Yankov check-called another 26,000 on the 5 turn and checked the 6 river.

Emmerson bet 66,000 and Yankov instantly tossed in a single chip for the call. The A974 of Emmerson won the pot with a seven-high straight as Yankov only flashed his cards to Morris with a grin on the face.

Soon after that, Morris tangled with Aaron Mermelstein in another larger pot. Morris led the K99 flop for 30,000 and Mermelstein called. The 6 turn brought a check-call by Morris for 45,000 and he led again the 3 on the river for 104,000.

Mermelstein used one time bank and folded.

"I might want that hat back," George Wolff said. He has apparently loaned his lucky white construction worker hat to Morris the day before in the $5,000 satellite when Morris had been short stack, after which both then won their entry at a bargain.

Duek First to Fall

Niveau 2 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Michael Duek
Michael Duek

Three players, including Krasimir Yankov and Michael Duek, built a pot of around 120,000 heading to a flop of A2K.

Duek, in the small blind, led out for 40,000 and Yankov tanked for a moment before potting to 241,000. Another opponent on the button folded.

"Is that all in," Duek asked as Yankov only had a few chips behind. Duek stuck in his last chips and Yankov called.

Michael Duek: AJ109
Krasimir Yankov: AKK4

Yankov was ahead with his set of kings, while Duek had a draw to a Royal Flush. The board ran out 37 and Duek missed everything. A count of the chips showed Yankov barely had him covered and Duek, last year's Main Event third-place finisher, became the first to hit the rail here today.

Welcome to Day 1 of Event #71: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller

Robert Cowen

One of the most-highly anticipated High Roller showdowns of the 2023 World Series of Poker is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. local time at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Event #71: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller is certain to attract some of the biggest names in the world of poker and four-card aficionados will enter the fray in the third edition of this tournament.

The event will be played in the purple section at Paris right next to the King's Lounge and a bumper field is expected for the high-stakes contest. During the 2023 WSOP thus far, both the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship (731 entries) and $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller (449 entries) set new records and foreshadow a strong turnout for the most expensive PLO tournament on the summer schedule in Las Vegas as well.

Back in 2021, the $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller took place for the first time and Jeremy Ausmus came out on top after three-handed play with Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth. Ausmus has already had a decent summer to date with several deep runs in WSOP events and notched up his sixth gold bracelet in Online Event #8: $3,200 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller. Ausmus also finished 8th in the $25,000 PLO High Roller for $209,392 and is among those expected to join the field today.

Defending champion is the UK's Robert Cowen, another well-known poker pro that regularly pops up deep in tournaments with four cards. One year ago, Cowen earned his second WSOP gold bracelet after overcoming a tough final table line-up that included the likes of Scott Seiver, Jason Mercier, Ben Lamb, and Dash Dudley to name but a few.

202185$4,069,375Jeremy Ausmus$1,188,918

Considering the new record fields in the other PLO tournaments and High Roller contests alike, it would be no surprise to see another record set in the third edition of this event.

Cards will be in the air at 2 p.m. local time and Day 1 features a total of 12 levels with a duration of 40 minutes each. There will be a 15-minute break every three levels and each of the participants receives 300,000 in chips. A total of two reentries are allowed for each player during the registration period, which remains open until the start of Day 2 on Saturday at 1 p.m. local time.

The tournament will be played with a 30-second shot clock from start to finish and the penultimate day is scheduled to whittle down the field to the final five hopefuls. It seems likely that the conclusion will then be streamed on the PokerGO platform and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor until a winner has been crowned.
