The 2023 World Series of Poker has begun to wind down, but there are still a few opportunities left for those looking at a last chance at glory. Only time will tell if last year’s champion and two-time bracelet winner, Michael Wang will be in attendance to defend his title. Wang managed to defeat 573 entrants over two days of play, despite a chaotic incident that marred Day 1 for the entire field, Wang somehow kept his wits about him on Day 2, defeating Farid Jattin in heads up play. Erik Seidel also made a close run at yet another bracelet for his collection, ultimately settling for the bronze.

Plenty of notables are sure to enter this particular field in Event #94: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold’em, as it’s one of the last two events on the docket. What fans should really be on the lookout for is some combination of Ian Matakis, Chris Brewer, Shaun Deeb, Josh Arieh, and Jesse Lonis. All five of these players currently stand to potentially win Player of the Year. Matakis is currently well in the lead with 4,598 POY Points at the time of the writing of this article but could potentially be overtaken if any of his rivals were to outright win one of the remaining events.

Players will be given a 50,000 starting stack and everyone will have exactly one reentry available to them. Play is slated to start at 12 p.m. PDT with blinds starting at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Blinds are set to increase every 30 minutes with a dinner break after 12 levels (approx. 7:45 p.m.). Late registration will also close at the end of dinner.

Alec Torelli
Alec Torelli

Alec Torelli, a noted poker coach, is fresh off an 11th-place finish in the Main Event ($700,000).

Adrian Mateos, largely regarded as one of Spain's greatest poker players, already has four WSOP bracelets on his resume and is assuredly looking to close out the summer with a bang.

Shane Rose recently bubbled the final table of the $600 Ultra Stack with a tenth place finish ($29,870) and is assuredly looking to best his previous score.

Bob Mather is a notable guest star in Lexy Gavin-Mather's content as he's the latter's husband. Both put in a rather full schedule this WSOP.

Matthew Hunt, a member of the Solve For Why team and one of the personalities on the 'Only Friends Podcast' had a deep run in Event #28: $1,500 Freezeout for $59,468, as well as a recent runner up in another freezeout at the Venetian ($53,321).

Roberts Asks for All of It

Niveau 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

A player on the button opened to 600 and Christian Roberts put in a three-bet to 3,000 from the small blind, receiving a call from his opponent.

Roberts fired a continuation bet of 2,500 on the K103 flop and was called by the button.

The turn was the 5. Roberts slowed down with a check, the button bet 6,500 and Roberts made the call.

Roberts checked again on the 10 river and his opponent bet 13,500. Roberts announced that he was all in, putting his opponent briefly into the tank.

After about two minutes the button folded and Roberts took down a decent early pot uncontested.

Can Some Fool's Gold Help Adam Walton Capture the 2023 WSOP Main Event Bracelet?

Fool's Gold
Walton has 83 big blinds and a magic rock going into Day 2 of the Main Event final table.

Poker players can be superstitious, and it is not unusual to see them wear a specific item of clothing throughout a tournament or use a trinket as a card protector. The eagle-eyed among you who have followed PokerNews coverage of the 2023 World Series Of Poker Main Event may have noticed something unusual about Adam Walton's chips. No, it is not the way he stacks them, but rather the fact that there is a shiny rock taking pride of place on top of his chips.

A player from under the gun opened to 700 and received calls from Matthew Hunt in the hijack, a player on the button and Maria Konnikova in the big blind.

The flop came 926 and action checked around to Konnikova, who bet 2,000, which was enough to fold all three of her opponents.
