Niveau 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Vinicius Lima

It was an eventful day at the 2024 World Series of Poker held at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, as Day 2 of Event #38: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em dominated the tournament areas from the outset.

After play wrapped up, 416 players remained out of the 2,831 who began Day 2. The tournament saw a total of 8,706 entries across the three starting flights, surpassing last year’s count by nearly 400 entries.

The massive field created a prize pool of $11,619,840, with the winner taking home a seven-figure payout of $1,098,220 and the prestigious WSOP bracelet. All remaining players are guaranteed a minimum of $4,880.

Topping the counts with 3,700,000 in chips was Vinicius Lima. According to The Hendon Mob, Lima has over $1,100,000 in live tournament earnings, most of which came from his biggest tournament score to date of $728,430. Lima could potentially top that with a win in this event come Thursday.

Joao Simoa
Joao Simoa

Bagging one of the largest stacks in the room was Joao Simao with 1,810,000 in chips. Simao already boasts two WSOP bracelets, the first from an online event in 2021 and the second from a $5,000 Mixed NLH/PLO event in 2022. In this series, he has already reached two final tables, finishing seventh and third. With the chips he acquired today and the skills in his arsenal, Simao will surely be aiming for another bracelet from this event.

The big focus of the day for many players was when the money bubble burst and all of the remaining 1,306 players were guaranteed a min-cash of $3,001. Earning the unwanted title of bubble boy for this event was John Allen after he called off his remaining chips on the river with a set of queens, only to be shown the nuts by Ardit Kurshumi.

Several big names who missed out on the money today included Danny Wong, two-time bracelet winner Bertrand Grospellier, and 2004 Main Event champion Greg Raymer, who was eliminated after he hero-called the river against bracelet winner Malcolm Trayner.

Notable players who cashed but did not advance to Day 3 include Ren Lin, Maria Ho, Danny Wong, Ebony Kenney, JC Tran, James Dempsey, Ryan Depaulo, Brek Schutten, and six-time WSOP bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus.

Many big names did manage to bag up a stack for tomorrow’s play though, such as Alex Foxen, Kristen Foxen, Martin Kabrhel, Xuan Liu, Timur Margolin, Jake Schwartz, and Kevin Martin, after getting his opponent to put all of their chips in on the turn drawing dead.

Day 3 starts at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, in the Grand Ballroom of the Horseshoe. Players will play ten 60-minute levels before the remaining players bag up for the night and prepare for the fourth day of play.

A player in early position opened to 24,000 and Kevin Martin three-bet to 72,000 from the seat to his left. After it folded back around to the early position player he made the call.

The action got checked to Martin on the 84K flop and he put out a continuation-bet of 40,000. His opponent made the call and they headed to the turn.

The early position player checked for a second time when the dealer put out the 4. Martin fired a second barrel of 60,000 this time. After he asked to see Martin's stack, the early position player moved all in for Martin's remaining 111,000. Martin made the call and the cards were revealed.

Allen Runs Into A Straight on the Bubble

Niveau 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

John Allen was seen in a tough spot after Ardit Kurshumi in the small blind moved all-in with a bigger stack on a board of 28QJA.

According to Kurshumi, Allen opened to 18,000 from middle position and called when Kurshumi three-bet to 48,000.

Kurshumi continued for 36,000 then fired a second barrel of 65,000. Allen called both times.

Once on the river, Kurshumi shoved and Allen went into the tank for several minutes, standing up and sitting down a few times. He eventually made the call for his last 149,000.

Ardit Kurshumi: K10

Trayner Busts Raymer

Niveau 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Greg Raymer
Greg Raymer

Malcolm Trayner raised to 16,000 from under the gun and Greg Raymer defended from the big blind.

Raymer checked the 5K5 flop and Trayner bet 12,000. Raymer called and they headed to the turn.

The 4 turn saw Raymer check-call a bet of 46,000 from Trayner.

On the J river, Raymer checked for the final time and faced a bet of 165,000 from Trayner. The bet was enough to put Raymer all-in. After pondering for almost a minute, Raymer slid in the call.

Trayner flipped up AK, which was good as Raymer turned over 66, and with that a former WSOP Main Event champion had been eliminated close to the bubble

Ho Doubles

Niveau 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Maria Ho
Maria Ho

There was a raise in middle position to 12,000. Maria Ho called from the small blind and they went to the flop heads-up

Ho check-called a bet of 14,000 on the 10K3 flop.

The turn came the Q and Ho check-called another bet of 33,000 from her opponent.

Ho checked to her opponent on the seemingly blank 4 river, and he bet enough to put Ho all-in. The bet amounted to roughly 120,000. Ho made the call for her remaining chips and the cards were revealed.

The middle position player flipped over Kx10x for a flopped two pair. But this was second best to Ho's KQ for top two pair. Ho dragged in the pot just before the second break
