Scooter Ride for Mike Matusow? Not Yet

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

About an hour ago, Mike Matusow had one foot out the door. But he's not going anywhere just yet. In fact, he's now sitting firmly in his chair. Matusow has his scooter parked about two yards away from his seat, and it seems it will remain there for a while.

"I've had a lot of comebacks here, making final tables coming back out of a few big blinds," Matusow said, before adding, "but if I win this, it might be the best comeback of my life, because I was defeated."

Matusow pointed to a hand when he was down to last 6,000, and only Cary Katz saved him in a three-way pot, forcing a fold from third player who had Matusow beat. However, the poker gods (or at least Cary Katz) came to the rescue, and Matusow has rocketed back into contention.

He's now up to more than 90,000 after winning a pot against Konstantin Puchkov. Matusow looked at the screens and revealed his plan: "Last two levels. I need a couple of sevens."

It's been a long day, and two more hours are ahead of the four-time WSOP bracelet winner. "I need to sleep, I'm tired," Matusow added.

Negreanu and Tran Tangle

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

After a raise and a call preflop, Daniel Negreanu faced off against J.C. Tran, with Tran in position. On the first draw, Negreanu took one while Tran took three. Negreanu bet, and Tran called.

On the second draw, both players took one. This time, Negreanu checked, and Tran bet. Negreanu called.

Negreanu took one, and Tran stood pat on the last draw. Negreanu then checked. Tran bet. Negreanu flashed his cards to the dealer, then plopped them down, folding but accidentally revealing a {2-}. Tran then showed his cards to Negreanu and mucked.

"If I got a seven or an eight, I could beat you," Negreanu said. "Or if you drew queen, then queen."

Adam Owen is the New Sheriff in Town

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Adam Owen

English player Adam Owen holds the fort at the moment, playing roughly 265,000 chips. That's good for the chip lead, but Owen shares his table with another renowned mixed-game shark, the one and only James Obst. And he's navigating a big stack, too.

Until two days ago, Obst had a goose egg in the column revealing the number of bracelets won. After a streak of second-place finishes, Obst finally seized his first WSOP jewelry in the $10,000 Razz Championship.

Now, it's Owen's turn to get back to even with the Aussie wizard.

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
David ODB Baker
David ODB Baker

David "ODB" Baker opened. Philip Long made it three bets. Baker made it four bets. Long capped the betting action, and Baker called all in for exactly five bets.

Long stood pat on the first draw.

"You're already pat?" Baker asked, trying to get information. "You have three draws, you don't want to try to improve?"

Long just shook his head no. Baker took two. On the second draw, Long stood pat, and Baker took two more. On the last draw, Long stood pat, and Baker took one.

Long showed {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

"Well, at least I'm drawing live," Baker said, showing {7-}{6-}{4-}{2-}. "I need a five or a three."

Baker's final card was neither as he drew a {J-}, and he was eliminated from the tournament.

Klodnicki Bluffs Like a Boss; Saves George in the Tournament

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Chris Klodnicki (as seen in a previous event)
Chris Klodnicki (as seen in a previous event)

Chris George was again down to pennies, putting his last 2,600 at risk after Chris Klodnicki's raise. Mark Gregorovich called from the big blind to battle with Klodnicki for a side pot.

Gregorovich and Klodnicki changed two, and George took three.

Gregorovich drew two on the second draw, while Klodnicki took only one. George opted for two.

After calling Klodnicki's second barrel, Gregorovich took one on the last draw. Klodnicki patted this time, though, leaving George hoping as he changed one.

Klodnicki bet once again, and Gregorovich finally gave up. Klodnicki burst into laughter, announcing, "Deuces." He patted {6-}{5-}{3-}{2-}{2-} just to try bluff Gregorovich out of the side pot, and it worked out tremendously.

"Are you serious?" asked George, who survived once again. He held only {K-}{8-}{6-}{4-}{2-} but notched a triple as the remaining players started the banter about liking him at the table.

Triple-Up for "Mike Miracle"

Niveau 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Three players were in the pot for 6,500 apiece as Mike Matusow had exactly this chip count coming to the following hand.

Steve Tabb and Cary Katz were trying to send Matusow packing, but he proved to have a tough skin.

Tabb patted on the first draw, leaving Matusow and Katz drawing two each. Then, Tabb led with a bet, and Katz called, saying, "I'll go for the miracle."

Tabb bet again, still standing pat. Matusow changed one, and Katz took two again. Katz then called another bet.

The last draw saw both Tabb and Matusow patting, and Katz drew one. Tabb checked this time, and Katz checked back.

Tabb tabled a pat ninety-seven with {9-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}, but Matusow hit his bingo on the second draw, tabling {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a number two. Katz briefly opened what looked to be a ten-seven, and Matusow captured the pot.

"Mike Miracle," commented Cary Katz.

Kurtzman Doubles Through Zinno

Niveau 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Eric Kurtzman was all in, and Anthony Zinno had him at risk. The two were on the second draw, where Kurtzman stood pat and Zinno took one.

"I'm still pat," Kurtzman said before the third draw. Zinno took one. Kurtzman turned up his {9-}{8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}, while Zinno showed {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}.

"Paint!" Kurtzman requested from the dealer.

Luck was on the side of Kurtzman, as Zinno drew a {10-} on the final draw to allow Kurtzman to double up.

Chris George Triples; Still Remains Short

Niveau 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Chris George was crippled to 2,400 but he now has a little more room to work with as he's just tripled up.

George moved all in from the cutoff, and [Removed:412] raised from the button. Mark Gregorich came along from the big blind.

Gregorich and George discarded two while Kruk decided to draw one. Kruk and Gregorich added one bet to the side pot, and continued to the second draw.

Gregorich changed two while George and Kruk took one apiece. No bets were made on the second draw.

All players changed one on the last draw, and Gregorich led out, forcing Kruk out of the way. Gregorich scooped the side pot and announced "a pair", leaving the triple up to George who rather double checked: "You have a pair?"

Gregorich confirmed, showing his {5-}{4-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. George tabled {9-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{2-} and moved up to 8,200 but he still has a mountain to climb.
