Uchida the First to Hit the Rail

Niveau 2 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Shunjiro Uchida dropped to a short stack early in the tournament and looks to be the first to hit the rail here in Event #34: $10,000 2-7 Limit Lowball Triple Draw Championship. He lost the last of his chips in a hand to Randy Ohel.

Ohel raised and was called by Uchida from the big blind. Uchida took three, and Ohel took two. Uchida bet, and Ohel called. Both players took one on the second draw. Uchida then bet, and Ohel called again.

On the last draw, Uchida stood pat, and Ohel took one. Uchida moved all in for his last 600, and Ohel called.

"I have a nine-six," Ohel said, showing {9-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}. Uchida had {9-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{2-}, but that was no good, and he was sent to the rail.

Both players stood pat from the second draw where Kurtzman raised Shakerchi's bet. Shakerchi checked and called one more bet with a sigh.

Kurtzman showed {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for an eight-perfect and Shakerchi couldn't compete with his hand.

Hale Discovers the Wheel

Niveau 2 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

We caught up to the action after the first draw where James Obst bet and Brant Hale called. Hale took two while Obst took one. On the second draw, Hale check-called one bet from Obst, then both players drew one.

On the final street of action, Hale bet and Obst called. Hale fanned {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for the wheel and that was good to earn back some early chips that Hale had lost.

Long Takes from Gathy

Niveau 2 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Button Philip Long raised and Michael Gathy reraised from the big blind. Long called.

On the first draw, both players opted to take two. Gathy then check-called.

Gathy changed two again on the second draw but Long drew only one this time. Check-call was the action again.

The last draw saw Gathy discard one while Long patted and both players tapped the remaining betting round.

Long's patted {10-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} was the best hand as he approached 70,000 in chips.

Zaichenko Gets Some Back with Eighty-Six

Niveau 2 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Philip Long raised from the button and small blind Andrey Zaichenko was his only caller.

Zaichenko drew one while Long changed three. Zaichenko took the betting lead and Long called.

The Russian player stood pat on the second draw and Long drew two before calling Zaichenko's bet.

Long drew one on the last draw and then raised Zaichenko's bet. Zaichenko shook his hand, but made the call. Long briefly flashed his hand what looked to be a straight. Zaichenko scooped the pot with {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}.

Zaichenko, however, is still about one-third short of a starting stack.

Mike Wattel
Mike Wattel

Mike Wattel raised from the button and was called by Chris Vitch from the small blind and Shunjiro Uchida from the big blind.

On the first draw, Vitch took one, Uchida took three, and Wattel took two. Vitch then bet and was called by both players.

Vitch stood pat. Uchida took one and Wattel took two. Vitch bet again and Uchida called. This time, Wattel raised. Only Vitch called.

On the last draw, both players stood pat. Vitch checked, Wattel bet, and, after giving it some thought, Vitch called.

"Wheel," Wattel said, showing {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

"Flush!" Randy Ohel joked, making reference to the fact that Wattel's hand looked like it could have a flush since it was all black. "Just kidding."

Vitch took a closer look at Wattel's hand, then mucked his own, awarding the pot to Wattel.

All Action on Monnette's Table

Niveau 1 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
John Monnette
John Monnette

So far, it seems that John Monnette's table is the one that deserves the attention. Every hand brings some drama; at least if any action during the first level can be considered as a drama.

Monnette is the main character of the first level. Recently, the three-time WSOP bracelet winner lost against Shawn Buchanan and then got the chips back, albeit from Jyri Merivirta's piles.

Hand #1:
Buchanan raised from the cutoff and Monnette flatted from the small blind. Monnette took one and Buchanan two and the betting round brought some fire as Monnette bet-three-bet. Buchanan raise-called.

Monnette patted and Buchanan drew one before calling Monnette's bet. Buchanan drew one again on the third draw and both players tapped. Buchanan found what he needed when he looked on his new card, turning over {9-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-} which was enough to beat Monnette.

Hand #2:
The next hand saw Eric Kurtzman open from the cutoff and button Monnette called, inviting small blind Jyri Merivirta to the pot. Talal Shakerchi folded in the big blind.

All three players changed two and Kurtzman continued with a bet. He received two calls.

Merivirta took one on the second draw while Kurtzman and Monnette changed two again. This time Merivirta led to the pot, forcing a fold from Kurzman but a raise from Monnette. Merivirta called.

He changed two this time while Monnette stood pat. Merivirta checked to Monnette who didn't miss an opportunity to bet and Merivirta couldn't pay anymore, leaving the pot to Monnette.
