Adam Owen Leads 26 Players Into Day 2 of 2-7 Triple Draw Championship

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino and the 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for Day 2 of the Event #34: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship!

Saturday saw 80 players take to the felt to create a $752,000 prize pool that will award the final 12 players a guaranteed $15,584 in prize money while $232,738 will await whoever is victorious here in Event #34. Although the field was relatively small, it was still stacked with notables as the likes of Robert Mizrachi, Paul Volpe, John Monnette, Frank Kassela, Daniel Negreanu, Abe Mosseri, Mike Gorodinsky, Brandon Shack-Harris, and Jesse Martin all were unable to add another bracelet to the trophy case after being eliminated throughout the day.

One player who has yet to claim a bracelet is Englishman Adam Owen. Owen has collected multiple top-10 finishes here at the WSOP with his best showing in the $10,000 Razz Championship a few years ago when he finished third behind Phil Hellmuth and Mike Gorodinsky for $104,914. Owen, however, will be looking to change that here in Event #34 and, after bagging the chip lead with an impressive 336,000 in the early hours of the morning, he'll be using that as a stepping block to potential WSOP success.

Sitting right behind Owen is Australian Robert Campbell who bagged 291,000 while [Removed:412] (264,500), Mike Watson (261,500), Mike Ross (248,000), James Obst (227,000), David Benyamine (223,500), and Anthony Zinno (204,000) round out the players in the 200,000-chip club. WSOP stalwarts Konstantin Puchkv, Mark Gregorich, Mike Wattel, Nick Schulman, Mike Matusow, and Todd Brunson are all spread out amongst the remaining 26 players.

The goal today will be to reach the final table of six, and the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to provide continuous live updates of every wheel, missed draw, and snow, live from Day 2 of Event #34: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship. So stay tuned right here for all your 2017 World Series of Poker coverage!

Mark Gregorich opened under the gun to 10,000 and JC Tran three-bet the button to 15,000. Gregorich looked at Tran's remaining 2,500 and put in the fourth bet as Tran obliged.

Both players drew two on the first draw before Gregorich stood pat and Tran drew one.

On the final draw, Gregorich stood pat again and Tran asked for one more.

"Number two!" announced Gregorich as he fanned his {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

Tran tabled his {5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} to be drawing to a seven and, as he began squeezing his card, he announced, "Wheel!"

Tran jokingly rolled over the {A-} for a non 2-7 wheel and was eliminated in 26th place.

David Benyamine "Sorry for the Slowroll" against Georgii Belianin

Niveau 11 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante

David Benyamine raised and Georgii Belianin called. Belianin drew two and Benyamine one.

Belianin check-raised his opponent and Benyamine called. The Russian then stood pat and Benyamine drew one.

Belianin bet and this time it was Benyamine's turn to raise and Belianin called. This time, Belianin drew one and Benyamine stood pat.

Belianin check-raised his opponent on the end and Benyamine called.

The Russian showed {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{2-} and Benyamine showed {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Belianin started to gather in his bet, perhaps not knowing that he was beat. The dealer pointed it out and he placed it back into the middle.

"Sorry for the slowroll," said Benyamine. "I mean by not raising on the end."

Jyri Merivirta

We caught up with the action on the final draw with the rest of Jyri Merivirta's stack in the middle. He came into the day with just 51,000 chips and, with the limits at 5,000/10,000, it was only a matter of when not if he got his stack in the middle.

His opponent was Mike Matusow, showing a made eight-six low {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and Merivirta was drawing live to a seven-low with {7-}{6-}{5-}{2-}. However, he drew the {j-Hearts} and tapped the table and was eliminated early on Day 2.
