There were 405 players who came out to play today in Event #57: $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better. At the end of the night defending champions had fallen, streaks were broken, and Larry Tull was leading the way with just 126 players remaining. Tull is looking to make his fifth World Series of Poker cash and if things go well, possibly his first World Series of Poker final table as well.

Defending champion Hani Awad made an appearance today. He shared a table with Andrew Barber and the two exchanged several pots throughout the day. But despite winning last year, and coming in second the year before that, Awad didn’t make it past level seven today. Similarly, Julie Schneider had cashed in this even for the last four years running, with one final table in that mix as well. Today Schneider also fell before the end of level seven, breaking her streak as well.

Several big name players fell alongside Awad and Schneider, such as Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Scotty Nguyen, Greg Raymer, Mel Judah, Max Pescatori, and John Monnette.

But even with that massive list of pros who didn’t make it through the day, there were still plenty who did. Phil Hellmuth is still alive and kicking. He finished the night with 24,200 chips. Also still in the field and bracelet hunting is Alex Luneau. Luneau finished the night as one of the chip leaders, bagging up 94,000. Also coming back for Day 2 are Chris George (63,600), Jared Bleznick (71,000), David Bach (64,000), Esther Taylor (61,800), Mike Ross (53,800) and Mike Matusow (31,400), to name a few.

Players will return Friday at 2 p.m. PDT and will play 10 more levels. PokerNews will be here following all the action so make sure to tune back in.

Tull Scoops Off Luneau

Niveau 10 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

With a board reading {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, chip leader Larry Tull had squared off against fellow big stack Alex Luneau. We didn't catch any of the betting action bet a decent sized pot had been built.

Tull tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, making a straight and with no low possible, scooped the pot to add to his lead and gain some distance from a tough competitor.

Mike Huguenot Takes Three-Quarters of a Massive Pot; Usman Siddique Eliminated

Niveau 10 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Mike Huguenot opened with a raise from the lojack position. He was called by Prince of Docness on the button, Mike Matusow in the small blind and Usman Siddique from the big blind.

The flop came down {4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Matusow and Siddique checked over to Huguenot. He bet and was called by Matusow and Docness before Siddique made it two bets. Huguenot made it three bets. Docness called. Matusow folded. Siddique made it four bets. Huguenot capped the action and Docness and Siddique both called.

On the {5-Diamonds} turn, Siddique bet and Huguenot and Docness both called.

On the {2-Clubs} river Siddique moved all in for his final 100. Huguenot made it a full bet, and Docness called.

Siddique showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} first, for a flush and an eighty-five low. Huguenot showed {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a flush and a sixty-five low. Docness showed {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for the same low. Huguenot took down the high pot and chopped the low with Docness as Siddique was eliminated from the tournament.
