Galfond Takes a Hit

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

With a raise to 6,000 from early position in front of him, Phil Galfond three-bet to 18,000 from the hijack. The button looked down at his cards and thought for a couple moments before throwing in a four-bet to 53,000. The initial raiser took no time mucking his cards, and Galfond called after counting his stack.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, and both players checked to the {10-Spades} turn. Galfond checked again, and his opponent bet 42,000. Galfond weighed his options and elected to give up on the hand.

Over and Out for Kihara

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Naoya Kihara
Naoya Kihara

Naoya Kihara raised to 7,000, and Cherish Andrews three-bet to 20,000 out of the small blind. Once the action was back on Kihara, he four-bet all in, and Andrews called with the slightly superior stack.

Naoya Kihara: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Cherish Andrews: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{3-Spades}, and Kihara was left drawing dead on the turn. He was called back to the table in case he had some chips left over, but that hope quickly vanished when the stacks were verified.

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Alex Greenblatt was under the gun on the turn of a {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} board, and he and his opponent in the cutoff both checked. Greenblatt also checked the {7-Clubs} river, and his opponent bet 7,000 into a pot of around 35,000. Greenblatt put in a raise to 45,000. After tanking for a bit, the cutoff called, and Greenblatt turned over {k-Spades}{9-Spades} for two pair. His opponent's {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} was sent into the muck face-up.

Brandon Meyers
Brandon Meyers

Over in the Gold section, Brandon Meyers bet the turn of a {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{J-Spades} board for 16,000, and his sole opponent called before the {Q-Diamonds} appeared on the river. Meyers slowed down and checked, which prompted his opponent to move all in. Meyers asked for a count but folded when it was deemed to be for 53,500.

Nearby tables in the Amazon Gold section feature Melanie Weisner, Talal Shakerchi, Max Pescatori, and Dutch Boyd. The latter has been nursing a short stack for quite some time.

Meanwhile, all tables in the Purple section are gone, and just three sections remain in play in the Amazon Room.

Sanchez Calls Mortensen Down

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jordan Morgan opened to 7,000 from under the gun, and Diego Sanchez called in the hijack, as did Morten Mortensen in the big blind.

The flop fell {7-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, and all three players checked. The {A-Diamonds} landed on the turn. Mortensen checked, Morgan bet 13,000, and Sanchez called before Mortensen check-raised to 45,000. Morgan folded, and Sanchez called. The river brough the {3-Spades}, and Mortensen bet 88,000. After nearly four minutes of deliberation, Sanchez called and tabled his {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to defeat Mortensen's {J-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

As Sanchez climbed to 375,000, Mortensen took a dive down to 155,000 in chips.

David Berman Hits One-Outer to Stay Alive

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

David Berman started the day with 21,600 and is now at 340,000. He described the events that led up to his chip-up.

Berman was up to around 90,000 before the last break and got all his chips in preflop. A player in middle position had raised to 5,200, the button made it 18,000, and Berman made it 41,200 in the small blind. The big blind folded, and the initial raiser five-bet shoved with both opponents covered. The player on the button tank-folded and said he had kings. Berman called, and he was behind with jacks against his opponent's aces.

The flop came {J-}{A-}{X-}. Berman saw a jack in the window and yelled, "Yes!" Then he saw the ace behind it, and his excitement disappeared. The turn changed nothing, but Berman hit the case jack on the river to more than double up after being one card away from elimination.
