Kabrhel Last Entry for Day 1a; Adjusted Plan for the Day

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

One minute before the end of the dinner break, Martin Kabrhel showed up with a ticket in the hand to enter with a fresh stack of 20,000. When play resumed, the tournament staff announced an adjusted plan for the rest of the night. Play will continue until there are just 15 players are remaining, or the full 14 levels, whichever of the two comes first.

Kabrhel was the first to inquire about the announcement and floor staff explained that today's play will be the base for the remaining starting days in order to ensure that the money bubble will burst at the start of Day 2.

MacDonnell Bad Beats Ferguson

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

In the previous hand, Marc MacDonnell bet 5,100 from the cutoff to force a fold from Ryan Hefter on a heads-up flop of {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. The next hand, Chris Ferguson raised to 1,800 and MacDonnell from one seat over three-bet to 5,700. Hefter let go from the big blind and Ferguson's shove for around 13,000 was quickly called by MacDonnell.

Chris Ferguson: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Marc MacDonnell: {A-Spades}{8-Spades}

The Irishman got it in with the worse hand, but improved on a flop of {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Neither the {Q-Spades} turn nor the {6-Clubs} river improved Ferguson and he has been eliminated. Ferguson can however re-enter on either Day 1b or Day 1c in order to take another shot at vital points for the player of the year ranking.

After a raise by Ryan Hefter from under the gun, short stack Konrad Abela shoved for around 14,000 from the button and Hefter quickly called once the action was back on him.

Konrad Abela: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Ryan Hefter: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Abela was eliminated. Only a mere minute later, it was also game over for Fahredin Mustafov. He three-bet shoved for his remaining 18,000 and initial raiser Romain Follet looked him up.

Fahredin Mustafov: {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Romain Follet: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

There was no help on the board {10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts} and the next player was sent to the rail, reducing the field to the last 23 hopefuls.

Racener's Aces Get Four-Flushed

Niveau 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
John Racener
John Racener

Jeff Cormier raised to 3,800 from the cutoff and Darren Delahunty three-bet to 8,000 from the small blind. John Racener was in the big blind and made a four-bet to 19,000. Cormier folded and Delahunty called to see the flop fall {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

Delahunty pushed all-in and Racener quickly called for his remaining 32,000. Delahunty turned over {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} but was up against the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} of Racener. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Delahunty picked up a flush draw. The {8-Hearts} on the river gave Delahunty his flush and Racener was eliminated late on Day 1A.

Delahunty Slips Up, Hefter Doubles, Cormier Takes the Lead

Niveau 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Ryan Hefter
Ryan Hefter

Darren Delahunty raised to 4,600 from middle position and was called by Ryan Hughes on the button, Ryan Hefter in the small blind, and Jeff Cormier in the big blind.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and the action was checked to Delahunty who announced all-in. Hughes mucked his cards and Hefter snap-called. "Oops!" Delahunty said aloud as Cormier mucked his cards. Delahunty turned over {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} but Hefter tabled a set with {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and Delahunty picked up a flush draw on the turn again. This time, the {4-Spades} on the river wasn't as helpful and Hefter scored a massive double up through Delahunty.

Just two hands later, Delahunty came over to the media desk to explain that he busted after holding the chip lead at one point. According to the story, Delahunty flopped two pair and Cormier flopped a queen-high straight. All of the money went in the middle on the flop and Delahunty was unable to catch up.

Ryan Hefter Finishes With a Strong Day 1A in His Title Defence!

Niveau 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Ryan Hefter

It was an action-packed day at the WSOP Europe inside the King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. The series kicked off with Day 1A of Event #1: €1,100 No-Limit Hold'Em Monster Stack and it was Ryan Hefter making the biggest spotlight of the day.

Hefter, the defending champion of this event in 2015, came through the day as one of the largest stacks sitting at 208,000. Hefter hails from New York, New York and made the trip to WSOPE mainly for this event. Hefter only has four recorded live tournament cashes for a total of $210,457. Another win in the Monster Stack event could lead to Hefter extending his trip to play in some more events throughout the series.

There were many notables that flooded the tournament area on opening day of the 2017 WSOP Europe rendition. There was much anticipation as to who would show up of those contenders in the Player of the Year race. Of the top ten players in contention, Chris Ferguson, John Racener, Ryan Hughes, and Alex Foxen have all made the trip to King's Casino from the United States. Foxen and Racener both made deep runs on Day 1A but were eliminated in the last couple levels. Ferguson busted earlier in the day and Hughes (81,500) was the only one of the four to bag chips to move onto Day 2.

Some familiar names to find a bag at the end of Day 1A include chip leader Ismael Bojang (268,500), Jeff Cormier (265,000), Mike Leah (96,000), and James Akenhead (46,500). Bojang is coming off a strong WSOP in Las Vegas with eight cashes, his best being an eighth-place finish for $46,887 in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'Em - 6 Handed event. He has a total of over $2.7 million in live tournament earnings and will be looking to have another strong series on his home turf.

There were a total of 90 entries to walk through the doors of the Poker Arena today, many of which were unable to make a deep run. Of those, Kristen Bicknell, Catalin Pop, Felipe Ramos, Pierre Neuville, Roberto Romanello, Jeff Lisandro, Marc MacDonnell, Daniele Primerano, and Kenny Hallaert all hit the rail early on. There is a good chance that all of these players will be back to battle on the felt for Day 1B tomorrow.

The remaining 15 players will return on Sunday for Day 2 where the blinds will increase to 60-minute levels. There are still two starting flights remaining for those looking to join them.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor on Friday at 2:00 PM local time to bring you all of the action from Day 1B.
