Bubble Boy Ferguson; Kos Leads 17 Day 1B Survivors in The COLOSSUS

The second of eight starting days of the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe Event #1: €550 COLOSSUS No-Limit Hold'em saw a field of 167 entries emerge in Europe's biggest poker arena at the King's Casino in Rozvadov near the border to Germany. Along with the 154 entries of Day 1A, the current field size for the event stands at 321 entries in total and another 17 players ensured their ticket for Day 2.

After 18 levels of 30 minutes each, local player Sebastian Kos ended up as the Day 1B chip leader with 593,000 and the overnight podium is completed by Lukasz Tomecki (418,000) and Lars Kamphues (397,000). Other notables among the survivors are Ondrej Lon (381,000), Van Tiep Nguyen (289,000), Andriy Palyuga (280,000), Marian Kubis (277,000), Krasimir Yankov (236,000) and 2018 WSOP bracelet winner Guoliang Wei (60,000).

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner Chris Ferguson ended up as the bubble boy in the final level of the night when he was forced all in out of the big blind and stood no chance with four-two off against the pocket jacks of Rene Crha. The Czech himself didn't survive the final outburst of action at the end of the night either, as he was among the nine players to take home a portion of the Day 1B prize pool. Vojtech Skalak, Zurab Ejibia, Vladimir Valent and Nika Kakoishvili were among those to claim €785 for the efforts, Georgios Orestidis cashed for €905.

Action of the Day

More than 50 players were in their seats when the cards got into the air and the Day 1B field soon reached more than 100 entries. Such big names as Dutch Boyd, 2018 WSOP Player of the Year contender Shaun Deeb, Jeff Lisandro, Max Pescatori and Sebastian Langrock all took another shot at the coveted gold bracelet. The first seat open of the day came after just eight minutes when Jan Hajek ran with kings into aces, and the early action was fast-paced.

Among those to quickly vanish were recent WSOP International Circuit €1,650 Main Event champion Emil Bise, Martin Kabrhel, Oleh Haisiuk, Viliyan Petleshkov, Fahredin Mustafov, Josef Snejberg and Aleksandr Merzhvinskiy. Shaun Deeb entered twice without success, on his second bullet he three-bet shoved with deuces into the pocket kings of Lukas Tomecki.

Other big names such as Andrey Andreev, Allen Kessler, Roland Israelashvili and Robert Auer all missed out on something to show for and not far off the money bubble, Dutch Boyd, Renato Kaneoya and Matous Houzvicek had to settle for disappointment. Timo Kamphues lost a flip to his brother Lars when he couldn't hold up with pocket nines versus ace-queen and the rail also welcomed Philipp Zukernik, Konstantinis Misailidis and Michael Soyza.

As quickly as the players busted just shy of the money, as much the action slowed down on the direct money bubble itself. Eventually, it was 2017 WSOP Player of the Year Chris Ferguson that blinded out and couldn't crack pocket jacks when forced all in out of the big blind. The fireworks continued for the remaining 15 minutes of the night and reduced the Day 1B field from 26 to just 17 survivors.

The next chance for poker enthusiasts from near and far to take a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000 and coveted gold bracelet to the winner awaits after a few hours of sleep. Day 1C will kick off at 12 p.m. local time and Day 1D follows right away as of 6 p.m. local time. The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor to provide all the action.

Last Four Hands; Plenty of Eliminations

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Vladimir Valent
Vladimir Valent

Just before the last four hands of the night were announced, Vojtech Skalak was eliminated and Rene Crha followed right after. That wasn't all, though, as another five players ran out of chips.

Mirko Kratzer came back from next to no chips and doubled twice, with {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs} versus {Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} versus {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. In the meanwhile, his table saw the departures of Karel Novotny and Nika Kakoishvili.

Andriy Palyuga doubled through Vladimir Valent when he didn't see the shove of his opponent and got his own stack in from the button. Zurab Ejibia was forced all in from the big blind, too.

Zurab Ejibia: {8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Andriy Palyuga: {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Vladimir Valent: {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The board came {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Palyuga doubled through Valent for 130,000, which left the Czech with around 40,000. Those vanished shortly after, and Georgios Orestidis sent his stack over to Van Tiep Nguyen on the same table.

Vogt and Rychlik Min Cash on Day 1B

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Andriy Palyuga
Andriy Palyuga

In a three-way all in over on table 94, Timo Vogt ended up as the shortest stack and with the best hand in showdown against Andriy Palyuga and Vladimir Valent.

Timo Vogt: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Vladimir Valent: {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Andriy Palyuga: {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

The board came {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} to let Valent flop two pair, Palyuga turn trips and river a full house. Vogt's pocket kings were no good and he was first out in the money on Day 1B for €785.

Roman Rychlik received the same payout as he failed to improve with {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} against the {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} of Victor Paraschiv. The latter flopped a set on the board {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} to eliminate Rychlik.

Chris Ferguson Bubbles Day 1B of The COLOSSUS

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

After going through the blinds in the previous orbit, Chris Ferguson was left with a T-500 chip only and folded all the way until he was forced all in from the big blind. Since the other tables only provided minor pots and no all in showdown, it was Ferguson who seemed to be doomed to miss out on another WSOP cash.

Rene Crha moved all in from the hijack and all other players folded, the other tables finished their hands without an all in and it was indeed Ferguson that ended up as first one at risk on the money bubble.

Chris Ferguson: {4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Rene Crha: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board of {8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} left Ferguson drawing dead on the turn to let the bubble burst in the final level of the night.

Lon Takes Another Hit; Kos Leads

Niveau 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Sebastian Kos has taken full advantage of the bubble period thus far and pulled ahead of the chasing pack, bumping his stack up to around 600,000.

Ondrej Lon, who had been the chip leader until an hour ago, has just lost another pot to drop down further. On the river of a board {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}, he placed a pot-sized bet of more than 40,000 and Vasile Strugari called. Lon showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} for a bluff and Strugari claimed the pot with {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}.

Set for Kamphues

Niveau 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Ondrej Lon raised to 15,000 first to act and Lars Kamphues defended the big blind to see a flop of {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, which both players checked. Kamphues bet he {3-Clubs} turn for 14,000 and Lon called. The {6-Hearts} on the river was checked through and Kamphues rolled over {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for bottom set.

Lon virtually patted himself on the back and mucked.
