Artiom Poddubnii Leads Final 58 in Event #3: €1,350 NLH Mini Main Event

Niveau 25 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Day 2 of Event #3: €1,350 NLH Mini Main Event has come to an end here at the 2023 World Series of Poker Europe at King's Resort in Rozvadov. Leading the charge is Artiom Poddubnii, who amassed 10,740,000 in chips by the time the dust settled.

Poddubnii busted several players en route to bagging the chip lead, including a hand where he cracked aces late in the day for a large pot. Poddubnii's best live cash came back in 2021 after winning the Grompoker Ukraine Poker Open Main Event for $20,000, but he now finds himself in pole position to make a serious run at the €300,000 first-place prize.

In total, the tournament generated a total of 1,729 entries across four starting flights. Of those, 461 returned for Day 2 to compete for the lion's share of the €2,000,000 prize pool. However, by the time play concluded, just 58 players remained.

With 260 players making the money, it didn't take long for the field to play down to the bubble, which resulted in a three-way preflop all in between aces, kings, and queens. David Taborsky was the unfortunate bubble boy after his queens failed to improve against Anthony Mahaut's aces as the short stack.

Defending WSOPE Main Event Champion Omar Eljach, who also won his second bracelet just a couple days ago in Event #2: €550 Pot Limit Omaha 8-Max, is among the chip leaders after bagging 6,575,000 and will be looking to improve upon his already stellar poker resume.

Among the less fortunate who busted before they could find a bag include Martin Kabrhel (219th - €1,880), Ran Kollerr (131st - €2,510), Peter Kamaras (114th - €2,715), Renji Mao (104th - €2,715), Oleksii Kovalchuk (91st - €2,975), and Jason Wheeler (81st - €3,305).

Ghizaoui called the extra amount and turned over QJ for just queen-high. Peluso had Q9 for trips and already had Ghizaoui drawing dead heading to the K river, securing a double up.

Eljach Coolers Magny to the Rail

Niveau 23 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Omar Eljach

Giuseppe Mazza-Boussemart and Gilles Magny built a pot of around 1,300,000 heading to the turn on a board of Q299. Mazza-Boussemart then moved all in from the cutoff.

Magny, with around 800,000 remaining, tanked for several minutes as the two players chatted about the decision.

"Can we have some cake and coffee? They're having a rendezvous over there," tablemate Sebastian Langrock joked with a tournament official. "That's my way of almost calling time," Langrock added.

Magny eventually folded, but the next hand he found himself facing an all-in shove again. Omar Eljach bet 150,000 from the big blind on a board of 7839 and Magny called in the cutoff.

The river came the 8 and Eljach moved all in. The rest of the room had already left for break as Magny continued to tank. He eventually called for 450,000.

Eljach turned over J10 for a straight and Magny showed A8 as he got up to make his exit. "Tough river," Eljach told him.

Artiom Poddubnii and Radek Jantos were heads-up on a flop of QK3, where Jantos got the rest of his 1,000,000 in the middle from the big blind against Poddubnii in the cutoff.

Radek Jantos: AA
Artiom Poddubnii: A10

Jantos had aces but needed to dodge Poddubnii's big draws. The 2 turn was safe, but the 6 river gave Poddubnii a flush and sent Jantos to the rail.

Around 700,000 was already in the middle as Giuseppe Mazza-Boussemart and Paolo Concetti went heads-up to the 432 flop.

Concetti then led out for 625,000 in the small blind and Mazza-Boussemart called in early position. The turn came the 5 and Concetti slowed down and checked.

Mazza-Boussemart then bet 500,000, sending Concetti deep into the tank. "I have a good hand," he told Mazza-Boussemart.

"If you see my cards and the board. We're all playing for the win," Mazza-Boussemart replied. Omar Eljach eventually called the clock, and Concetti folded after several minutes.

"I think you were better," Mazza-Boussemart said, turning over 88 as he took the massive pot.

"What a play," Eljach added.

Three-handed on a flop of 29A, Martin Ryan bet 175,000 from the hijack and Petr Targa called in the small blind, while big blind Aleksej Grenz folded.

Both players checked the K turn before Ryan bet another 600,000 on the 6 river. Targa quickly called and Ryan snap-mucked, allowing Targa to take the big pot without a showdown.

At the same time, Omar Eljach busted Edis Becic with a pair of kings on a board of 7J4J10, with Becic holding only a seven for an inferior two pair.

"Even a donkey picks up a hand every once in a while," Eljach said.

"At some point this is cheating. People are starting to complain," Sebastian Langrock said from another table.

Elia Salerno raised to 85,000 on the button and just behind him, Peter Kamaras shoved for approximately 550,000 from the small blind. Action folded back to Salerno, who quickly put in a call to put Kamaras at risk.

Peter Kamaras: K8
Elia Salerno: AQ

Kamaras would need some help to survive, but the QA443 runout improved Salerno to aces-up — sending the once chip leader to the rail.

Heads-up on a flop of 94K, Paolo Concetti bet 135,000 from the button before Francis Klar moved all in for 550,000 in early position. Concetti snap-called.

Francis Klar: 99
Paolo Concetti: AA

"Aw, a set," Concetti said upon seeing Klar's nines. He was looking for one of the remaining two aces but missed the 5 turn and 7 river as Klar survived.

"Gotta keep punching," Concetti said, adopting a boxing stance.

"Good thing you had the chips to survive it. Other people are out," tablemate Jason Wheeler told him.

Salerno Catches a Running Straight to Bust Lakatosh

Mykola Lakatosh moved all in for 80,000 in middle position and both Elia Salerno in the cutoff and big blind Martino Cito called.

Salerno and Cito checked to the river on a board of Q3JK9 when Salerno bet 115,000. Cito quickly folded.

Lakatosh started getting up from his seat, recognizing that he was likely beat as he turned over AJ. His instincts were correct, as Salerno showed J10 for a straight to win the pot.

Start-of-day chip leader Peter Kamaras is also at this table.
