Past Champs Omar Eljach and Max Neugebauer Looking For Another Deep Run as the WSOP Europe Main Event Rolls Into Day 2

Another massive crowd will gather inside King’s Resort in Rozvadov chasing dreams of World Series of Poker Europe glory when Day 2 of the €10,350 Main Event begins at noon local time.

One player who’s all too familiar with what it takes to avoid all the pitfalls and make it through a field like this is Omar Eljach, who won this event in 2022 and followed it up with another deep run last year. He’s back doing it all over again this year as he takes 298,500 into Day 2. Max Neugebauer beat out a record-setting field of 817 to win the bracelet last year and is also back for another shot, beginning the day with 150,000.

Sirzat Hissou stormed to the top of the leaderboard yesterday as he leads the remaining 412 players with 657,200. Other top stacks include Darko Svesko (535,900), Patrik Jaros (497,200), Cecile Ticherfatine (450,000), and Alex Foxen (389,900).

Brothers Armin (346,500) and Daniel Rezaei (227,600) both start the day with healthy stacks, as does Viktor Blom (334,300) Samuel Ju (279,100), Roman Hrabec (275,400), Farid Jattin (234,100), Kristen Foxen (228,300), Jonathan Pastore (220,000), and Boris Angelov (183,500). Further down the leaderboard are Nick Palma (181,000), Victoria Livschitz (169,000), Dario Sammartino (162,500), Hossein Ensan (111,000), Martin Zamani (61,600), and Shaun Deeb (48,200).

The two starting flights have built up a field of 628 entries so far. Late registration remains open until the end of Level 12, which should come around 9:15 p.m. Players are allowed one reentry, so the field could grow much larger by the time the prize pool is confirmed. Last year, 140 players entered on Day 2; a similar number would put this event near the tournament record.

The action on Day 2 picks up on Level 8 with blinds of 800-1,600 and a 1,600 big blind ante. Levels are 90 minutes long, with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 11 around 6:45 p.m. The plan is to play a further seven levels today.

Andreas Eiler had three-bet a previous open to 12,000 in the small blind. David Eiselt then made it 31,600 to go in the big blind, which Eiler called.

Eiler check-called Eiselt's bet of 16,000 on the 10♣5♥4♠ flop before both checked the Q♥ turn. Eiler then led out of 30,000 on the 4♣ river and was quickly called.

Eiler could only turn over ace-high with A♥K♣. Eiselt had turned a pair with his A♦Q♦ and took down the large pot.

Gigolashvili Raises Slacanac's River Bet

Marco Slacanac made it 4,000 from under the gun and Vladimer Gigolashvili three-bet the hijack to 11,000. When it got back to Slacanac, he called.

A flop of 8♦7♥9♦ saw Slacanac lead out for 6,000, which Gigolashvili called.

The J♥ dropped on the turn where Slacanac continued to fire with a bet of 18,000, and again, Gigolashvili called.

When the 3♦ hit the river, Slacanac unloaded a third bullet of 30,000 into Gigolashvili. After some thinking, Gigolashvili reached for the blue chips, worth 25,000, and put five of them into the put to make a raise of 125,000. Slacanac instantly folded.

Eljach Likes Everything About the Board as Mortensen Calls Off

There was already around 70,000 in the middle as Sebastian Mortensen and Omar Eljach went heads-up to the 10♦6♠2♣ flop. Mortensen then bet 13,500 from under the gun and Eljach called in the hijack.

Mortensen bet another 22,000 on the A♣ turn and Eljach again called. The river was the 5♣ and Mortensen bet 41,000. Eljach instantly slid forward a stack of chips to put Mortensen all in.

Mortensen took several minutes before calling for around 80,000 more. Eljach turned over A♠5♠ for two pair and Mortensen flung Q♣Q♦ into the muck on his way to the exit.

"Did you like the river?" a tablemate asked Eljach after the hand.

"I liked the flop. I liked everything about that hand, pre-flop, flop, everything," Eljach replied.
