Asan Umarov goes in to the history books as the first ever EPT Main Event finalist from Kazakhstan.
He is also the last Spin & Go qualifier left in the tournament after winning his €9k prize package in PokerStars’ special €10 Spin & Go promotion. There were 120 players who won their trip to Monaco in the promotion.
Umarov works for the Kazakh sports news site SportPokerKz and lives in Almaty. Prior to this Grand Final, Umarov only had two live cashes to his name, totalling $4,155 – including fifth in the $300 Kazakhstan Poker Cup in his home city for $2,400.

Siège 1 - Jimmy Guerrero, 33 ans, France
Jimmy Guerrero, ancien Supernova sur PokerStars, joue principalement en cash game mais a également obtenu de bons résultats sur des tournois multi-tables et figure parmi les habitués du circuit France Poker Series. La compagne de Guerrero, Thi Xoa Nguyen, a réalisé un beau deep run sur le Main Event EPT, se classant 14e pour 47 980 €. Le couple s’est rencontré à une table de cash game en 2012 et Guerrero était impressionné par Nguyen qui avait 5 000 € devant elle. Il s’est dit : « Il faut que je sache qui est cette fille ! ». Le duo d’enfer est maintenant fiancé et ils déménageront à Londres plus tard cette année afin de se concentrer sur les cash games - au casino Grosvenor Victoria Casino, qui accueillait auparavant l’EPT Londres. Guerrero affiche au compteur un seul gain sur le Main Event EPT à ce jour : une 76e place à l’EPT100 Barcelone pour 13 900 €. Son plus beau résultat en live avant aujourd’hui est sa 30e place pour 29 990 € lors du Partouche Poker Tour Grand Final 2012 à Cannes.
Siège 2 - Pierre Calamusa, 27 ans, Grenoble, France
Calamusa a découvert le poker alors qu'il était encore adolescent. Fils de prof, il commence à jouer en ligne et se choisit pour nouveau hobby de petites parties de poker NL entre amis. Il fait quelques dépôts à 50 € en ligne et seulement six mois plus tard, élève sa bankroll à 20 000 €, somme qu'il consacre pour payer ses frais de scolarité à la Toulouse Business School. Cependant, il abandonne ses études un mois après la rentrée pour se concentrer sur le poker. Après des hauts et des bas dans sa carrière, il perd l’intégralité de sa bankroll en 2011. Une 3ème place sur le High-Roller des EFOP à l’Aviation Club de France le remet en selle.
Désormais Team Pro Winamax, Calamusa, ancien candidat de l’émission de TV La Maison Du Bluff 5, est maintenant considéré comme une étoile montante de la scène du poker français. Ses places payées en live incluent une 4e place sur le High Roller FPS4 Cannes pour 15 440 €, une 39e lors du Main Event EPT12 Dublin en février pour 13 200 € de plus et une victoire sur un open de poker dublinois pour 70 000 € en septembre 2015.
Siège 3 - Adrien Allain, 29 ans, Rennes, France
Le jeune Breton Adrien Allain avoue se sentir « super bien et a l’impression de vivre un rêve éveillé » en allant aussi loin sur le Main Event de l’EPT Grand Final. Il a est arrivé vendredi dernier avec sa petite amie Laura, qui a malheureusement dû quitter le Rocher mais continue à le suivre sur le streaming et à l’encourager. Son meilleur ami n’est autre que Paul Francois Tedeschi, qui a fini 25e pour 26 850 €. Allain est né et a grandi à Rennes, en Bretagne mais vit actuellement à Londres. Il a découvert le poker en 2009 en gagnant 190 € online en cash game au cours d’une soirée entre amis. Immédiatement piqué par la curiosité, il se passionne pour le poker et sévit aussi bien en ligne qu’en live. Il a perfectionné son jeu lorsqu’il était en convalescence après une opération chirurgicale de la main.
Le Breton qui aura 30 ans le mois prochain, affiche déjà plus de 1,6 million de dollars de gains sur des tournois live. Il a remporté le WPT Amnéville en 2011 pour 336 133 € et l’APT Macao en 2009 pour un montant équivalent à 391 580 $. Son plus beau résultat EPT à ce jour est une 4e place sur le Side NL à 2 000 € de l’EPT7 Sanremo. Cette saison, il est également entré dans l’argent dans trois festivals EPT, à Dublin, Prague et Barcelone. Adrien Allain a eu un très joli geste en se levant de table à la fin du Jour 4, après avoir pris une petite photo souvenir de son sac de jetons. Il a checké l’Italien Iacobo Brandi, précédemment assis à droite, qui a eu la mission difficile à la reprise d’être short stack de 226 000. Brandi a terminé 28e aujourd’hui pour 22 740 €.
Siège 5 - Oren Rosen, 39 ans, Ramat Gan, Israël
Avant l'EPT12 Grand Final, Oren Rosen avait amassé 50 840 $ de gains sur des tournois live et se trouvait tout juste dans l’All Time Money List d'Israël. Cependant, il a maintenant la garantie de tripler ses gains en tournois en atteignant la table finale. Trois autres joueurs en provenance d'Israël sont déjà parvenus sur une table finale EPT auparavant mais il n’y a pas encore eu de champion israélien. Eyal Avitan a failli soulever le trophée de l’EPT6 Prague, pour finalement de contenter de la deuxième place en laissant la victoire à Jan Skampa.
Rosen est originaire de Ramat Gan, à l'est de Tel-Aviv. Il a déjà gagné un trophée cette saison, en remportant le Turbo Event à 600 $ du PCA 2016, pour 15 720 $. Les autres résultats notables de Rosen ont été établis dans le royaume du poker en ligne. Il a remporté des titres SCOOP et Sunday Warm-Up et a également atteint des tables finales sur le Super Tuesday et le Sunday Million.
Siège 6 - Jan Bendik, 51 ans, Slovaquie
Actuellement numéro 1 sur l’All Time Money List slovaque, Bendik a absolument dominé la course au titre de Joueur de l’Année au cours de la saison 9. La plupart de ses points cette saison ont été marqués sur des tournois annexes. Il a gagné trois side events à 1 000 € et a inscrit de beaux deep runs sur six de plus. Son plus gros gain en cash, qui lui a valu plus de 60 000 €, était sa victoire sur un No Limit à 1 000 € à Deauville. Néanmoins, ce qui lui a véritablement permis de prendre la tête est dû à sa victoire sur le NL Turbo à 1 000 € à Monaco.
Cet habitué de l’EPT fait le cricuit depuis huit ans et co-détient une poker room à Kosice, la 3e plus grande ville de Slovaquie, près de la frontière ukrainienne. Le poker a été fructueux puisqu’il a moissonné plus de 2 million d’euros en tournois live, y compris une 5e place sur l’EPT8 Sanremo pour 170 000 €, une place de runner-up sur le High Roller EPT10 Prague Eureka et une 6e place à l’EPT7 Prague. Il joue aux cartes depuis son enfance mais a goûté au poker en 2001 lorsqu’il découvre le poker fermé. Il s’est tourné vers le Texas Hold'em il y a dix ans environ et a rencontré son premier succès assez rapidement, en finissant deuxième des Masters Classics of Poker 2006 à Amsterdam, pour 97 000 €. Il est le premier Slovaque à avoir réussi à se hisser trois fois sur des tables finales Main Event EPT.
Siège 8 - Asan Umarov, 38 ans, Kazakhstan – Qualifié PokerStars Spin & Go
Umarov a inscrit son nom dans les livres d’histoire en tant que tout premier finaliste originaire du Kazakhstan sur un Main Event EPT. Il est également le dernier qualifié Spin & Go en lice dans le tournoi, après avoir remporté son package à 9 000 € lors d’une promotion spéciale PokerStars à 10 €. 120 joueurs ont remporté leur séjour pour Monaco par le biais de cette offre exceptionnelle et sept d’entre eux ont fini dans l’argent, collectant 163 330 € en gains cumulés. Umarov travaille pour le site de news kazakh SportPokerKz et vit à Almaty. Avant cette Grande Finale, il affichait seulement deux ITM en live à son palmarès, avec un total de 4 155 $ de gains, y compris une 5e place pour 2 400 $ dans sa ville natale pour la Kazakhstan Poker Cup à 300 $.
Seat 5: Jan Bendik , Slovakia (2,625,000)
Currently ranked #1 in the Slovakia all time money list, Jan Bendik absolutely dominated the Player of the Race in Season 9. Most of his points that season came thanks to great performances in side events. He won three €1k side events and enjoyed deep runs in a further six. His biggest cash, netting him more than €60,000 was winning the €1k No Limit in Deauville.
However, what really cemented his lead was taking down the €1k NL Turbo tourney in Monaco.
He has been an EPT regular for the last eight years and owns an electricity company in his homeland. Poker has been very fruitful for him as he has amassed over €2 million in tournament winnings including fifth at EPT8 Sanremo for €170,000, runner-up in the EPT10 Prague Eureka High Roller and sixth at EPT7 Prague.
He has been playing various card games since his childhood. He first got in touch with poker in 2001 when he discovered five-card draw. He switched to Texas Hold'em about ten years ago and his first success came soon after, when he was runner-up in the 2006 Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam, banking €97,000. He is also the first Slovak player to make three EPT Main Event final tables.
Seat 4: Oren Rosen, Israel (2,315,000)
Prior to the EPT12 Grand Final, 39-year-old Oren Rosen had amassed $50,840 in live cashes and was barely in the top 100 in Israel’s all-time money list.
However, he's now guaranteed to triple his live tournament winnings by making the final table. Three players from Israel have made it to an EPT final before now, but there has yet to be an Israeli champion. Eyal Avitan came close at EPT6 Prague, finishing second to Jan Skampa.
Rosen hails from Ramat Gan, located east of Tel Aviv. He's already picked up a trophy this season, winning the $600 Turbo Event at PCA 2016, taking $15,720 along with the silverware. Rosen's biggest results to date however have come in the online realm. He has both SCOOP & Sunday Warm-Up titles, and also made final tables in the Super Tuesday and Sunday Million.
Seat 3: Adrien Allain, France (11,815,000)
Chip leader Adrien Allain says he’s feeling as if he’s “living in a dream" by making it this far in the EPT Grand Final Main event.
Originally from Breton, Allain came to Monaco last Friday with his girlfriend Laura. She’s now had to head home, but is following his progress via the EPTLive stream. His best poker friend is Paul-Francois Tedeschi who finished 25th for 26,850.
Allain grew up in Rennes, Brittany, but now lives in London. He discovered poker in 2009 by winning €190 in an online cash game during an evening with friends. From then on, he developed a passion for the game and starting playing both online and live. He honed his game while he was convalescing after hand surgery.
Allain, who turns 30 next month, already has more than $1.6 million in live tournament winnings. He won WPT Amneville in 2011 for €336,133 and APT Macau in 2009 for the equivalent of $391,580. His best EPT result to date is fourth in the €2k NL at EPT7 Sanremo.
This season, he also cashed during three EPT festivals: Dublin, Prague and Barcelona. Allain took a photo of his chip bag at the end of Day 4 and then high-fived Italian player Iacobo Brandi who had been sitting next to him: Brandi entered Day 5 with the shortest stack, 226,000 and finished 28th for €22,740.
Seat 2: Pierre Calamusa, France (2,235,000)
Pierre Calamusa discovered poker while still a teenager. The son of a teacher, he started playing online and quickly turned home games into a significant hobby.
He made a few €50 online deposits and then manage to spin that up – in just six months – to some €20,000, a sum he used to pay his tuition fees at Toulouse Business School. However, a month after starting his studies he dropped out to focus on poker.
He’s had some dips in his career and, in 2011, lost his entire bankroll; However, a big win at the Parisian Aviation Club de France put him back in the saddle. Calamusa, a former Maison Du Bluff candidate, is now considered a rising star of the French poker scene. His live cashes include a fourth place at the FPS4 Cannes High Roller for €15,440 and 39th at the EPT12 Dublin Main Event in February for another €13,200.
Seat 1: Jimmy Guerrero, France (11,480,000)
Jimmy Guerrero, a former PokerStars Supernova, is mainly a cash game player, but also has some good results in multi-table tournaments and is a France Poker Series regular.
He was enjoying his deep run in the Main Event alongside girlfriend Thi Xoa Nguyen until she busted 14th. The 2016 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final Main Event Final Table is Ready to Explode
Two French pros will lead the chase for a €961,800 first-place prize, each holding more chips than the four other players combined, when the final six of the 2016 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final Main Event goes off, live on delay in Monaco, at 2 p.m. today.
WPT Amneville and APT Macau champion Adrien Allain (11,815,000), and former PokerStars Supernova and cash game specialist Jimmy Guerrero (11,480,000), stand above a pack of four players all hovering around the two-million chip mark that includes Slovakian and EPT9 Player of the Year Jan Bendik, Toulouse Business School student turned poker pro Pierre Calamusa, €10 Spin & Go qualifier and the first ever EPT Main Event finalist from Kazakhstan Asan Umarov, and Israeli Oren Rosen, a SCOOP and Sunday Warm-Up title holder who won the $600 Turbo Event at 2016 PCA.
Each of these players will be guaranteed at least €170,950 in sixth-place prize money when play begins nearing the end of Level 30 with blinds at 50,000/100,000 with a 10,000 ante. However, there are some massive pay jumps leading up to the almost-seven-figure first-place prize.
